Sound effects

Hello as you can probably see, Im new here. Hello all :D

Im very interested in findin out how the sound effects and foley were produced for the film.

I have done searches on the web and on this site and nothing relevant has come up.

Welcome to the forum cbobt. I don't know much about the sound effects in FoTR, but in TTT the whole multitude of orc was made at a football stadium. (PJ in the middle of the field encouraging everyone)

I heard that too! You read it in The Making of the Movie Trilogy, right? Tha's where I heard it. Only I thought it said they were recorded at a giant Cricket stadium during 'Tea Break' or something. I thought that was funny.

In the EE of The FOTR...they have a great section of descriptions of how they came about making the sound effects

a few I can remember off hand are:

the orcs in the mines of moria (when they are moving to surround the fellowship)...sound engineers strapped beer caps to their shoes to make the orcs sound like cochroaches.

The Balrog's first sounds were made by sliding a cinderblock down a piece of wood

The ringwraiths screams were actually one one the screen writers (Fran)

The cave trolls sounds were created by a combination of 2-3 different animals...I think a boar-pig/tiger and hippo

that's all i can think of off the top of my head!
