View Full Version : Plus Points

I've had an idea, which if the moderators agree with, could be a good idea. I think that as well as having warning levels, there should be 'plus' levels, for people who spend a lot of the time on the forum making useful posts. It might encourage people to be online a lot more. Let me know what you think about this (answers from Moderators would be much appreciated).
Cheers.

I think it there are several problems:
-who is going to judge the post? And what standards make up a 'good' post? People will start complaining because they think they don't get enough points, or will get disappointed if they try very hard to say something useful and still don't get points.
-if the mods have to judge all the posts, that means they will have to read EVERYTHING, and it will cost them a lot of time.
So, I don't really like the idea. It might be a good idea that people who have warning points should be able to get rid of them by making useful posts, but that would also require a very elaborate rating system.

I agree with Niniel. There are far too many difficulties for this idea to come to life.

I would think that a better variation of this type of thing is for people to lose points for good behavor. So that way if someone is warned, they have a way of shedding those points.

yeah, that would be nicer. i mean, it would kinda stink to be stuck with 12 or however many warning points forever.

Why do you need to encourage people to be more online  ? Shouldn't they be motivated enough by the chance to spend time with other Tolkien admirerers ;)
:)
Especially me, everyone should be extremely motivated to spend time with me!;)

I agree. The idea is not bad,but we should make it not so complicated.

I agree with ou three. The idea is too controversial to be actively put in work.

I have added a third option to allow any who are totaly against the Idea to vote that way.
For my part I am not against the idea of points for good posts/behaviour in theory. However, it would be difficult to put into practice. As has been pointed out by others on the thread someone would have to check and award the points.
There may be some way of doing something along these lines through the facilities of the board itself, such as points depedant upon Length of post (perhaps it could include Minus points for posts without Words :D ) But that is not my area of knowledge.

The new software that is allegedly soon to be released has something of a points system. We'll see how it works when we get it.
Just remember, I want to encourage an atmosphere where each member is of equal worth, or at the very least, of equal potential to contribute to TTF. The warning points are, for obvious reasons, a deterrent, something that a member will hopefully avoid. I'm concerned that a point system that 'grades' members would lead to a caste system developing on TTF. Perhaps not. We'll find out when 3.0 is out.

I like it. . .but just because I like a chance to show off and I know I'd be doing my best to get as many points as possible. . . It's my naturally competitive nature.
It's hard to apply. I'm not against the idea, but I'm not going to beg for it to happen.
