View Full Version : Ancalagon's 'quitters' Diary: Day 10

9.00AM - Well, I applied the patch like it said on the pack; not on any hairy areas of my body? Though I had some problems getting the patch to stick to my eyelid, I am now underway in my first day as an ex-smoker.
9.02AM - Sweating profusely, gasping for a cig, eyelid getting a rash from the huge patch hanging off it. Must eat a banana...or chocolate...or a sweetie cigarette!
11.56AM - Have developed a nervous twitch in my left eye.
12.36PM - Eating lunch. 4 Subway Sandwiches, a bowl of soup, 2 packets of Salt & Vinegar Crisps. I suspect I have a tapeworm, hence the reason for eating so much.
12.39PM - Denial has set in!
2.00PM - Tee-off time at my Golf Club. Playing with a non-smoker which helped. Rummaged through my Golf bag to make sure I had not inadvertantly left an old pack of cigs in it. Sadly I could not find anything even resembling a cig:(
2.01PM - Slice.
2.13PM - Slice, water and slice again!
4.38PM - Survived the course, managed to cope ok without a cigarette, though I have now moved my patch to another hairless area of my body...my inner thigh.
5.00PM - Packet of Crisps, 2 cookies and a cup of coffee. Wondering if I left any large butts in an ashtray, and whether they could be lit up without burning my lips and nose-hair.
5.01PM - Hoovering up the floor as I dropped the ashtray over the carpet and down the side of my sofa. Panicking now because my wife will kill me. 'Nervous twitch' is now set to 'rapid-fire'.
5.02PM - Collected my Son from school. He is proud of me and threatened me if I failed to quit. I backed away from him this time as he is bigger than me.
5.03PM - Asked my Son what he wanted for his 11th birthday next week.
5.55PM - Cooking Dinner. Trying to grill stuff on full heat so it will burn and I can inhale the smoke.
5.56PM - Can't knock smoke alarm off the ceiling with brush handle? Grill just caught fire...Wife walked in...can't remove brush handle from my...

Good luck Ancky! You might try getting a bunch of suckers/lollipops/candy on sticks (whatever you call them over there) and eat them when you get the urge for a cig. I've heard sometimes that helps.

Nope; Northern Ireland:)
Day 1...Continued:
9.03PM - Watching Utd. game on TV. Have finished sweeping the floor every time I try to walk...it brings tears to my eyes talking about it.
9.09PM - Fiddling too much, picking threads in the sofa and have now made a hole. Trying to cover it up with a cushion so I don't get caught. Will blame my Son for it if my Wife sees it:)
10.15PM - Had a little cup of tea and some toast. Eating disorder now becoming a problem. I have 7 square meals a day, by last count and endless snacks. Sat thinking about how I was going to spend all the money I will save from not smoking.
10.34PM - Have selected 8 Horses for Cheltenham tomorrow. Make note to get to bookies before lunchtime.
11.22PM - Sitting on the forum talking to Gothmog. He smokes. I bet he is lighting one up now. I wonder if I can smell it if I press my nose against the flatscreen?
11.45PM - Debating whether to go to bed. Feel unusually active, breathing is clear and I smell like a $100, which is $90 more than when I was a smoker.
12.00PM - Time for bed. So ends Day 1 of my Diary:)

Cold turkey...doesn't that mean without medication? Isn't that what he's already doing?
Well, anyway, keep it up! :) You can do it!

WAY TO GO Anc!! Almost everyone i know who smokes is trying to quit because the cost for a pack of sigarettes has been raised to close to 10 dollars here in NS  Good luck! Keep up the good attidude
Well, I don't really kow if Anc is going "cold turkey" or not, but it's been proven that it's the absolute best way to stop smoking.

7.14AM - Woke Up feeling rather ill. I did not throw up, but I am convinced I am pregnant.
7.39AM - Had a large breakfast, shouted at the family a lot when I suddenly remembered I had to apply a new patch. Having difficulty finding a good spot to put it, the eyelid is a bad idea as the patch is bigger than a cigarette paper...mmm, cigarette paper...*drools*
Finally decided that I will shave an armpit and stick it there! 'Stupider like a Fox' I hear you say;)
8.32AM - Dropped my Son into school. He poked me again in the sie and told me he was watching, waiting for me to fail...and when I did he would open a can of whoop-ass on me.
9.02AM - Joined local Karate Club...then we will see who pushed who around:)
9.05AM - Black Eye, gone to find a large steak to put on it.
10.15AM - Went to Gym for Aqua-Massage and a run. Suddenly I find my breathing capacity has improved and I think I can last on the treadmill for at least 20 Miles.
10.18AM - Someone phoned for an ambulance, but they said I will be ok, I just need to set my goals a little lower.
11.40AM - Watched an old re-run of Knight-Rider while eating a bag of Doritos and some dip before lunch. I didnt like the episode, Kit was not his usual quircky self and seemed to have been overtaken by a virus. I have decided to write to Sky and tell them it was 'The Worst Episode Ever'.. Oh no, I am turning into Comic Book Guy!!!
12.00PM - Made a small morsel for lunch. I fried the steak I had still stuck to my swollen eye and ate a few chips with it. Gone to get changed so I can do the shopping.
12.14PM - My trousers and shirt have shrunk?
12.55PM - I don't really feel comfortable doing the shopping in my Golfing Waterproofs, but everything else has shrunk. Wait till I see my wife, she must have put all my clothes in a boil-wash!
12.56PM - Denial from yesterday seems to have gone for good, thankfully:D

See how much enjoyment you are bringing to so many by deciding to quit smoking. :D
I am happy to hear you are making an effort to quit. I can imagine that it has not been easy...but a sense of humor is a great way to cope with it...and you seem to not be lacking in that department at all. I wish you the best of luck Anc!

Oh, Anc, please, why don't you keep on describing even more and even better and even with more details how terrific you feel not smoking and what good it brings to you...
Thus perhaps I'll finally quit too? :D
...Or maybe I need some really terrifying facts for that - not the positive but the negative incentive!
But I've seen and read so many such things... Why can't I quit then?
Uh?
Care for a little talk, Anc?
Come, sit down. Make yourself comfortable.

2.45AM - Had nightmare, dream't I had been imprisoned for 3 years for non-payment of taxes? Locked up with Cigarettes as the only currency. Had no other method of paying for materials, though I did not stoop so low as to demean myself. No shower for 3 years...ewwwh!
8.33AM - Took my son to school. He drove, but not because he told me he was and I better not argue, simply because at age 10 it is high time he learn't.
9.00AM - Played 'Return To Castle Wolfestein' Multiplayer. Not much to report really, except that I was strangely taken by the hypnotic release of the smoke grenades.
11.00AM - Gone to Doctors again to discuss Hallucinations.
11.33AM - Watched The X-Files. Damn you 'Smoking Man', you are my nemesis.

Good for you Ancalagon!! (I nearly had to run to the toilet cause I was laughing so much - it happens after having 2 kids:( )
I gave up 6 yrs ago (took me 2 wks with the patch) and restarted recently due to stressful events. I tried the other day to quit with the gum - but it taste really nasty, yuk lasted only a day.
It takes 48 hrs for the nicotine to leave your system and 2 weeks for the gung in your lungs to shift - but it can take a couple of months for the cravings to go. I found the habit was the hardest thing as oppose to the nicotine.
Try doing the same as you would otherwise - just without the fag.
Keep it up and maybe you'll inspire me to have a go again.:)

Well, those threats from Anc's son seem to be keeping him going.....so, I propose that we here at TTF give him some threats of our own to keep him going.
I say that if he fails we should take away his Mod powers, and only give him access to one section, which will be dedicated purely to spam. We'd leave him there in all the spam for a month or two (or until he goes crazy....which I don't think would be long.....) and than we'd bring him out of the spam-confinement and give him another chance to quit. Of course with threats for an even longer time in spam-confinement if he fails again.....
lol, ok really..way to go Anc! Keep it up, we're all behind you. I (and others I'm sure) will be praying for you.

7.39PM - Made dinner. Cooked a Pizza and enough Garlic Bread to choke a donkey.
7.40PM - Son performs Heiml...heimle....heimla...grabs me and forces the bread out that I am choking on!My word, humour is hard when you can't spell
9.14PM - Open Wine. Doom and Darkness have enveloped me. This is my first taste of alcohol since stopping smoking. I am beset by demons on all sides.....get thee behind me Nick o'Teen!
10.48PM - Watched 'Comic Relief' on TV. Not really amused, though I have decide how to spend my money saved...and so should you (for those of you who are British)
11.05PM - Really having trouble at the moment. For those of you who are tuned in to read Anc's funny diary..I am sorry, but my battle with smoking is difficult, I am finding this hard to do...but I am not giving up. I am not going to smoke a cigarette.
1.55AM - Still drinking wine, am now half-cut, but have recovered from my earlier temptations:D I am now drying out some banana skins cause apparently that works...not!
G'night all;)

I've decided (you've inspired me), when I finish my current pack of tobacco, I'll call it quits:( . I prob have enough to last to the end of the day - granted if I make really skinny ones (I smoke roll ups) - what I have will last longer.

2.10PM - Asked to do ball-boy, and do magic-sponge duty. I shall do it with vigour and enthusiasm as I do in all my activities!
4.00PM - Final whistle blows, team drew 3-3. I was woken by the Manager with a deftly aimed ball in the fromunderregion:D

10.45PM - Wife kicked me for fidgeting again. Really hurt this time!
10.46PM - Bruised and battered and ready for bed. Going to read Myth's Transformed for fun on a Saturday Night...yawn, I am so old and sad.

Day 5 - I am sorry to say I smoked a couple of Cigarettes today (Sunday) after Golf. We had a few beers and I was too weak to refuse. I am annoyed at myself and mostly disappointed.
I thought it best to admit this, becuase even through the jokes and laughs there is a very real fight going on whereby I still face the demons, the old habits and the temptations that comes with quitting.
Idril...stick at it, it is hell but worth every minute without one.

8.34AM - Sat covered in ashes, wrapped in sackcloth, beating myself with a large branch I took from the back garden. Feeling sorry for myself and my lapse 24hours earlier.
9.02AM - Showered, applied my new patch for the day and put the failings of yesterday behind me. New day, new challenge. 6 days gone - 3 Cigs smoked. Usually I would have smoked about 150 in 6 days, so I can draw comfort from the mathematics.
9.30AM - Ahhhh, today is St. Patricks Day...I wonder if anyone on the forum will remember?
10.40AM - Bored. Sitting in the office, fantastic day outside and I am stuck in here. I ought to be busy but I am making little Men and Women out of Blu-Tak and making them do things they only do in movies!!! Not that I watch these type of movies... but...eeewwwhhh, that is gross, stop it. Ahhh, just remembered, little blu people are not real.
12.55PM - Lunch. Trying to cut down on my food intake at the moment. Some members have been concerned that while my lungs are clearing, my cholesterol is going through the roof. I am as concerned as you and taking steps to address it, trust me.
12.57PM - Pizza guy is here:D
3.15PM - Back in work. Bored again. Little blu people have been busy while I was away. They are all lying back smoking cigarettes and whispering to each other.
Wow..what is going on, these patches are definetly making me see things.
3.16PM - Applied 2 more patches!
5.38PM - Home sweet home.
See you tomorrow.

Don't feel too bad, Idril. You can do it.
Whenever you feel the urge for a smoke, do something else.
And one other thing, be determined. You must want to quit smoking, not try to quit, if you catch the subtle, but important difference.
It's all in the head, really. trust me, I quitted 17 months ago.

Gone to bed.
10.35AM - Up and at em. I have a mouth like Ghandi's Flip-Flop this morning. My tongue feel like it has been mashed with a meat tenderiser and my eyes look like to ballbearings rolling around in a tin can. Welcome to my world people...this is me on a good day!
10.40AM - Extremely large, strong cup of Kenyan Coffee is bringing me back to reality. I like mornings like these, I feel so invigorated and ready to face the day with such enthusiasm.
10.42AM - Feel asleep on couch.
10.56AM - Guy arrives to measure up some windows. He asks me if I am alright when I answer the door! I tell him I was on night shift and not long up..he believes me..hehe sucker.
11.04AM - As he leaves, the guy hands me an AA card and tells me it is alright to face up to my problems:( I haven't had a drink in 4 days, and even then it was only half a bottle of red! Good God, I need to stop looking so grizzly in the mornings.

If I had to start a bad habit before the end of the world...I would choose something alot more pleasant than smoking.

Spirit - Where you are concerned I am formally retracting my suggestion that people start smoking. I didn't realise you were at such a tender age.
Elbereth - I think you should give smoking a proper try and not be so negative about the whole experience.

Of course you're a kid.
Anyway, I'm a year 11 form tutor and probably shouldn't be encouraging you to smoke. Professional responsibility etc etc.
Always do your homework, respect your parents and don't take drugs.

Heathertoes

Yes, it's in the UK. I told you, it's your school. I wondered why you weren't in my lesson this morning and now I know why. Think about it. If you're unwell I suggest you get off the internet and lie down for a bit - and definitely don't take up smoking.
Now then, I've got work to do.

He was going to Newcastle, so there's a fair chance he will have smoked himself to death by now.
