Can anyone tell me what the elvish word for "air" is?
the Quenya or Sindarin from will do. Thanks ahead

Isn´t is ´gwilith´ ??
You can also hear it in the opening scene of FOTR i guess...

This is what i found in my Sindarin dictionary:

gwelu (as substance)
gwelwen (lower air, distinct from the 'upper' air of the stars, or the 'outer')
gwilith (as a region )

Actually, 'Vilya' is only the name of the Elvish Ring of Air, but the meaning is roughly "Air-one"; the suffix -ya meaning '-one' (<-- roughly!).
In Quenya it probably has the basic body vil, but other than that I don't know.. :)

Appendix E says Tengwar 24 was originally termed 'vilya' in Quenya or, as translated, "air."

Thats how i learned, and i'm doing fairly well...
