Hoping that someone could give me an answer to an off-the-wall question.
What would be the phrase in Quenya or Sindarin for Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Anyone have any ideas?
Hopefully I will get some responses, if anyone would know it would be the good folks here.
Thanks,
vgunn

Hmm, I am almost 100 per cent sure there is no word in either Sindarin or Quenya for 'vampire'.. And I'm not sure how "Buffy" should be translated. :D The letter 'b' is not very common in Quenya, being replaced by 'v' in most cases..
As for 'slayer', I do not know.. I cannot find a word in either language for the verb "to kill/to slay", but then I am far from an expert on either tongue! Other members (i.e. Cian ;)) have a much wider and academic understanding of the Eldarin languages.
Welcome to the forum, Vgunn! :)

Well, there were vampires in ME (Lúthien disguised herself as one), so there must be a word for it, but I don't know what it is.

Here is what I've come up with
Beraenil en Golcannas Magor
Promise/Goddess the Cloak/shaping Slayer
What do you think?

I certainly sounds cool
I think Buffy as a proper noun shouldn't necessarily need to be translated/transliterated though.
Perhaps the term for vampire could be translated into "blood feeder" or one who feeds on blood.
So "the Vampire Slayer" could be "the slayer/killer of one who feeds on blood" or something like that.

Thanks for the reply.
I came up Buffy (Elizabeth) basically means promise or oath of God in Hebrew, so came up with the closest combination since Buffy cannot be directly translated.
It appears that Vampires, at least in the context of Tolkien, differ quite a bit from the traditional version. They ultilize shaping-cloaks, Luthien used one to disguise herself. I first thought of something like "blood-feeder", but now think this may sound better.

Here is an interesting note on vampires in Tolkien's world:

Apparently not very close in relation to the vampires seen in the Buffyverse.

Yep, I completely agree.
I am doing a conversion from the LOTR RPG rules system over to the Buffy RPG rules system. Not changing the setting, it remains faithful to Tolkien, just like the Unisystem rules better than that found in the LOTR RPG. The goal of Beraenil en Golcannas Magor is have a utilize a great system to role-play with in Middle-Earth.
