View Full Version : Stepping Down!
Ancalagon

Hello All,
I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know I am stepping down from my position as Uber moderator/Moderator. Sadly, due to work and personal commitments, I cannot give the time and energy I once could to the role.
I will of course remain a member of the forum and continue to post as and when I am able.
I would like to thank Webmaster and the Moderators for all their support.
Kind Regards
Anc.

AAAAAAH!!! NOOOOOO!!!
Not the Black servant of Morgoth! Who will swoop down and breathe the burning fire on those who continually defy the rules of our Forum!
Thanks for serving, Anc. Not to many of us are left who saw you ascend to the high position. Your great work will be missed. :(

I'm sorry to hear this too. Whenever a moderator steps down, it isn't a good sign. Not a good sign at all... :(

Why is that? I like to think he has just gotten himself a life outside of his computer.
I know I work on a computer all day long at work, and so to spend a lot of time on a computer AFTER work takes up way too much of one's life.
Besides - TTF has nothing to worry about. It's still the tops! Thoughtful and interesting people, and it's just the right size so you don't have to fight response or down time.

zacly, i think its actually really responsible, i mean if he was irresponsible then he would remain a Mod (just for the powers) and abuse it by never being on! Nice one Anc...or is it not  im all confused  ;)

I always thought that mods were probably the first people to come to the site or something is that true?

Mods are elected/recriuted by the other Mods and or the WebMaster when they are needed. You don't 'gradute' to being a Moderater by being around say a year, The people in charge decide who to 'upgrade' when the need arises. Hope this answers your question.

First of all...I am going to congratulate you Anc for getting a life outside of TTF. May we all hope to achieve such a goal someday. :D
Secondly, your fine leadership, professionalism, and dedication to your role as moderator is going to be missed greatly. You were a darn good mod...and I don't care what anyone else thinks! ;)
I am glad to hear that although you won't be with us as a mod...you are not deserting TTF altogether. As always, I will look forward to reading your fine quality posts in the future...even if they will be fewer in number.
Welcome back to the normality of being just a plain ole member! :p

But congratulations on such a sterling job as a moderator over last few years, Anc.
I know that most members were extremely grateful for a mod such as you.

Sorry I'm late in posting, but I would really like to thank Ancalagon for his hard work during his run as one of our head moderators. He will indeed be missed.
For the time being, I'll be filling in the void that Ancalagon leaves in his wake. This may or may not be a good thing. Time will tell.

I'll be filling in Ancalagon's absence until he's placed, which will most likely cause an ever greater sense of sadness at Ancalagon's stepping down.
LOL. That's so true. I prefer the hot breath of a dragon over the voice of the Eru itself any day.:p

I will also take this chance to congratulate Anc on his fine work as a Mod - he's sorted out several situations for me, as well as being a generally nice guy in threads.
However, it's not as if he's dying or anything (You're not, are you?), he's just not a Mod any more. Loads of people seem to be treating this as if he were leaving, or indeed, dying. It seems as if he will still be around, so us normal members probably won't spot much difference, it'll just be other people moderating.
But still, good job, Anc :D

Here we have DGoeij's quote of WM's statement with a timestamp of 12:40 PM (which looks like what I too have seen when I first read it at about noon my time):
I'll be filling in Ancalagon's absence until he's placed, which will most likely cause an ever greater sense of sadness at Ancalagon's stepping down.
WM's "original post" shows a timestamp of 10:53 AM for me and says (and does NOT show a "Last edited..." statement)

Evidently the post has been edited without being marked as such. Now I wonder if all moderators can edit their own (or probably even someone elses) posts without even a hint that this post has been edited, or if this is a feature just an administrator can access?

That's right, Walter, when I edit a post, there is no indication that I've done so. No, the moderators don't have this ability, and I don't have time or predilection to prowl about and edit random members posts.

No, Walter, it's not an act of supremacy, I'm just a bit dyslexic, so I need to edit my posts from time to time when I notice an error brought about by this condition.
I also don't think the members should be compared to cattle. ;)

Actually . . . I think WM changed the sig limit to five lines. So you were fine before, Anc. I have to admit that when I saw your five line sig. (something like that) I had to run and check it out. ;)
What I would like to see is that each member check to see that their signature take up no more than five lines in total.

I just read that Ciryahir page and saw what's really been going on behind the scenes here, and I say fair play to you Anc, and to Gothmog and Turgon too. It's the forum's loss, not yours - I just wish all three of you were still Mods.

1) We can't fault any of the three recently departed Mods for standing up for what they believe in.
2) As Anc explained there's a lot more to it than just the Ciryaher thing. And I'm sure it's true. So let's give him a little credit. ;)
