Hi,
May I join? Is there anything I have to do to join?
I'm so glad that someone created a Hobbits Guild! :D

YayGollum
03-29-2003, 02:02 AM
I wonder. Is there room for a guy that's a huge fan of only one hobbit and thinks that the rest are just nasssty? Yay for diversity, right? :D

legolasismine
03-29-2003, 05:21 PM
Sure you can join,I'll make a members list soon.
Oh and let me guess you only like smeagol right?!?!

LadyDernhelm
03-30-2003, 04:50 AM
Hey! Yay should NOT be allowed in here!!! *makes irritable remarks about the "evil" Sam. . .*

Can I join, Addie??? I love hobbits. ESPECIALLY Sam!!!

YayGollum
03-30-2003, 04:54 AM
Yes, crazy lady, the only hobbit I really care for it Smeagol. He's much more interesting than the boring and normal and typical heroic types. Ick. Anyways, Yay for stirring up trouble already! This could be fun! :D But then, why would I not be allowed in if I'm a fan of at least one hobbit?

LadyDernhelm
03-30-2003, 04:59 AM
Smeagol isn't WORTHY of hobbithood, Yay!!!

And how can you NOT like Sam??? Do you really and truly NOT like Sam, Yay??? That's just incredible. . .

Okay, allow me to post the first HLG poll:

Very typical ;-)

Favorite Hobbit?

Frodo
Sam
Merry
Pippin
Bilbo
SMEAGOL ;-)
Other (specify)

YayGollum
03-30-2003, 05:06 AM
Why would you think that Smeagol isn't worthy of hobbithood? He was born a hobbit. Not his fault. I didn't know that you had to be worthy. If you got to choose who was worthy and who wasn't, I would think that you'd toss other hobbitses from the books out of their race, too. That's just evil. oh well.

How can I not like the evil sam? I would think that that would be obvious. I like poor Smeagol and the evil sam was always evil to him. That's a good enough reason. I don't like the evil torturer Gandalf or the pitiless Aragorn or the Nazgul or Sauron for the same reason.

Anyways, why didn't you make a real poll? oh well. I'll vote for Smeagol. :D

LadyDernhelm
03-30-2003, 05:13 AM
Oh, YOU know what I mean, Yay. DIFFICULT person.

I didn't make a REAL poll because I didn't feel like figuring out how. ;-) Good enough??? And my, that's certainly a *cough*stupid*cough* reason to hate several people in the books. ;-)

legolasismine
03-30-2003, 05:19 AM
Sure you can join emma, and YaY the one rule is no bashing other cool and nice hobbits like sam!

Oh yeah and for the poll I vote for pippin.

YayGollum
03-30-2003, 05:24 AM
Oh. sorry about that. Hating a character in the book that hates your favorite character and is always evil to him is not a good thing. Got it. I didn't know that. I also don't like the evil sam because he's just your average, boring, normal, typical, and heroic type. Way too boring for me.

Anyways, Whoops! I didn't know that rule, crazy lady! I hope you watch out for poor Smeagol bashing! *watches the LadyDernhelm person with all kinds of suspicion*

LadyDernhelm
03-30-2003, 05:28 AM
Have I ever bashed Smeagol??? No. ;-) I think that he has his own place. However, Sam IS better. I'm not saying I don't like Smeagol!, I'm only stating the fact that I like Sam better. You may think Sam is your average Jo, boring hobbit, but I can assure you you'd much rather live in a world populated by Sams than one of Smeagol/Gollums. Wouldn't you, now? ;-)

legolasismine
03-30-2003, 05:43 AM
Now now you both calm down, yes tis is supposed to be a debating team but the very not evil sam and the very evil Gollum can't be the main subject all the time!

YayGollum
03-30-2003, 06:06 AM
Woah! Now that's just evil! You're both ganging up on me when I saw a rule made by one of you that said that we couldn't bash cool and nice hobbits! Poor Smeagol! Sure, I know that everyone has their own views on the evil sam and the hero that is Gollum, but there's no need to get snippy! Of course I'd rather live in a world totally populated with evil sams than the hero Gollum! The hero Gollum is just a much more interesting character to read about. Not my fault. Anyways, scary Gollum-hating lady, if you don't want me to keep ranting about Gollum, why don't you start up a different discussion?

legolasismine
03-30-2003, 06:27 AM
What did I tell you before about m name I shall only be called crazy lady by you alright okay so lets start a disscuion about smeagol an deagol!

04-03-2003, 12:34 AM

Welcome, S & R Gamgee! Sam is my favorite as well. He is the HERO, I tell you!

There was a Hobbit's Guild once...I was part of it....but when we got our own guild space, no one posted any other threads than the one that started us. I would have done stuff, but I was grounded at the time and totally helpless when the guild was shut down for lack of actvivity and it's guild space given away. <sobs> <feels regretfull>

But hey! Another chance to start anew! And this time, we'll do it right!

Count me in!

legolasismine
04-04-2003, 02:32 AM
Ol I'll go and put your name on the list, sorry if I'm kinda busy FOTR just came on tv and I've been hooked!

YayGollum
04-04-2003, 04:14 AM
Do what? The evil sam 'just is' the hero? That's just craziness. At least I read the book and actually know that poor Smeagol is actually the hero. oh well. Activities? I PMed moderators about combining all of the guilds for races into one big guild for fans of races.

legolasismine
04-04-2003, 04:32 AM
Yay I've read the books too and you know what,I say your crazy!
Always ranting about smeagol being the hero when he's not sam is and thats settled!
Now I believe we were disscussing smeagol and deagol!

YayGollum
04-04-2003, 04:56 AM
We were? No comment on the niceness I tossed at the moderators for you people? oh well. I will not leave the arguement so easily, lady. I thought you were going to drop it. It's not settled because Smeagol was obviously the hero. Should I really go on a rant about it? You have no way to tell me that the evil sam was the hero. It's a hopeless fight.

Belladonna Gold
04-04-2003, 02:08 PM
I want to join to thank u! I love hobbits, they're like my favorite characters in the movie (of course) So please let me join!!

Belladonna Gold

Yay Gollum,
Without Sam in the book, what would've happened to Frodo? Would Frodo have even liked smeagol if Sam wasn't putting him down all the time! Smeagol may be the hero but not the only one. He was still part Gollum when he bit off the ring. Sam doesn't have an evil part to him, he might be a pest sometimes, but he was never influenced by the evil in the ring!

YayGollum
04-04-2003, 09:34 PM
I have a thread about that scenario somewhere. It has a few quotes of Tolkien's that say if the evil sam wasn't around to be so evil to poor Smeagol, poor Smeagol would have ended up tossing the One Ring into Mount Doom on purpose. Sounds like a much better book to me. No need for the evil sam. Anyways, yes, the evil sam was very evil. He was always superly evil to poor Smeagol just from what he heard from Bilbo's stories. Smeagol never seemed very evil in The Hobbit to me. oh well. Also, he was influenced by the evil in the One Ring. He never did anything, but he was still messed with.

legolasismine
04-04-2003, 09:50 PM
Sure you can join, and as for you Yay lets just drop the very not evil sam and the very evil smeagol thing and get back to the disscuion which is,Smeagol and Deagol how did you fell about them both do you think that at some point smeagol ever really liked his brother?

YayGollum
04-04-2003, 10:35 PM
Lady, how can you expect me to drop the subject when you keep insulting poor Smeagol while asking to drop it? That's just evil. I'm not saying anything, just defending myself.

Anyways, how do I feel about Smeagol and Deagol? Well, we don't know much about either of them. I didn't even know that they were brothers. I thought they were cousins. oh well. The only thing we really know about Deagol we heard when Gandalf was telling Frodo what Gollum told him while he tortured the poor guy. How many people here actually think that Gollum is very honest? I don't think he's very honest even though I'm a huge fan. I'm thinking that he was trying to make Smeagol look as bad as himself. We have no idea what the real situation was when poor Smeagol ran into the One Ring.

legolasismine
04-04-2003, 11:08 PM
Alright alright I'll stop calling Smeagol evil as long as you stop calling sam evil.

But anyway I'm sure I rmember reading somewhere that there brothers, but my question is do you think Smeagol was ever capable of caring for his brother before the ring corupted him,but since tolkien never talked about smeagol and they he acted before his brother found the ring and it corupted him,but whenever I thought about Smeagol before the ring he always struck me as frodo like until he went all wacko over the ring, well thats how I see it.:D

Belladonna Gold
04-04-2003, 11:43 PM
I thought Deagol was Smeagol's cousin???????

YayGollum
04-05-2003, 03:58 AM
So did I. How much does that matter anyways? oh well. Anyways, as to the question, I would say ---> Yes. I haven't run into one Tolkien character that's pure evil. Of course Smeagol was capable of caring for people! I don't see why he wouldn't be. Read LOTR. It's a superly easily answered question.

LadyDernhelm
04-05-2003, 03:10 PM
I think Smeagol and Deagol are cousins ~ or friends ~ but I DON'T think they're brothers.

Aaah, I have FOTR right here, hang on...

"He had a friend called Deagol, of similar sort, sharper-eyed but not so quick and strong."
--The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien

So there you have it, straight from the mouth of the one who knows all about Middle-Earth.

legolasismine
04-05-2003, 04:54 PM
Darn it so they weren't cousins either, but I could have sworn my copy of the book said brothers,oh well mabye mine is messed up.

LadyDernhelm
04-06-2003, 03:20 AM
Well you could always check it, you know, Addie ;)

legolasismine
04-06-2003, 03:58 AM
Okay I will go check it tonight before I go to sleep, but I could have sworn I read somewhere there brothers, and it would make sense right,Smeagol and Deagol, see it makes since, but I'll check!

LadyDernhelm
04-06-2003, 04:08 AM
Tolkien just liked rhyming names. Take a look at the Hobbit, for instance! Balin and Dwalin...Oin and Gloin...etc.

YayGollum
04-06-2003, 04:20 AM
Well, those guys were related, too. I know where I could find a quote saying that they were cousins, but I'm too lazy to find it. It doesn't matter that much anyways.

legolasismine
04-06-2003, 04:28 AM
Yeah I know I always thought it was funny how he rhymed things, but anyway I wanted to bring up another discussion about hobbits, anyone have any suggestions?

Annushka
04-12-2003, 10:21 AM
The dwarves in the Hobbit with similar names were cousins. I know that for sure. OOPSS, I forgot, I must first join the Guild. Will you let me in?:) I love hobbits. I think that LOTR is all about them. My favourit is Frodo. He is the Hero and the victim. The Ring influenced his life the strongest. Everyone else faund their places in life except for him.:( And of course Gollum. Actually, I`m very sorry about Gollum. He is the VICTIM.

Wow, great first post for joining my Guild, and sure you can join, and yes I totally agree, but I'm a big fan of Pippin and Merry, and Billy Boyd and Dominic played them so well, they were exactly how I pictured them to be!

Lets talk about what we think happened to the hobbits after the book ended or what the book said happened. Wouldn't that be fun?

YayGollum
05-07-2003, 04:52 AM
Well, Gollum melted and became a part of a really big and bubbly thing. In the afterlife, he was praised as the real hero, though. :D

S & R Gamgee
05-08-2003, 01:54 AM
Yes YayGollum we all know what happened to Gollum. But what about the other hobbits? I know Frodo left to the Undying lands or what ever, Sam got married and had kids, Pippin got married and had a kid, and Merry was already married. But what happened after that?

YayGollum
05-08-2003, 06:23 AM
They all died and just had to be superly jealous of Gollum in the afterlife? :D

S & R Gamgee
05-08-2003, 03:40 PM
Are you sure? cuz in the book it says that some peole ay Sam left to the undying lands. Do any of you think that might have happened?

YayGollum
05-09-2003, 12:00 AM
I thought it was pretty obvious that that happened. sorry if it didn't. oh well. Going to those undying lands don't stop you from dying if what I've read in The Sil. is supposed to make any sense.

S & R Gamgee
05-09-2003, 12:10 AM
YayGollum I'm not asking you if your sure Gollum melted I'm asking you if your sure that they were jealous of Gollum in the after life.

YayGollum
05-09-2003, 12:49 AM
I wasn't talking about Gollum melting, I was answering your question about the evil sam going to that undying land place. oh well. Anyways, Ack! I was just being crazy when I was talking about that afterlife stuffs. How would I know that craziness?

Marah Seph
06-10-2003, 05:45 PM
hmm... Yes. it is nice. But ert the real actor married yes? Anyway, if you want to see 2 hours of him bein tall, watch Rudy! well he isn't dressed up like Sam.. but still.

Firawyn
06-12-2003, 04:21 PM
Didn't the actor who played Sam have to gain some weight for filming LOTR? So is he skinny in Rudy?

Marah Seph
06-12-2003, 05:16 PM
Well, I wouldn't say that he's skinny. He doesn't have the belly paunch though. He's all muscular too! : ) But, his face still looks the same, at least to me. *shrug* But it's all good.

S & R Gamgee
06-13-2003, 10:04 PM
I think he looks the same in Rudy as he does in LOTR. I know Sams married cuz he has a daughter with the same name as me, her nic name is even the same as mine.

Annushka
06-14-2003, 01:34 AM
I`m sorry. Are you talking about the actor or Sam?

S & R Gamgee
06-14-2003, 11:21 PM
right now we are talking about the actor but I guess we could talk about Sam but YayGollum won't like it. He'll say that he is evil.

Annushka
06-15-2003, 01:19 PM
Of course he`ll say that:D But does that mean we can`t talk about things that Yay doesn`t like? Besides he loves debating about how useless Sam is. So we`ll give him a chance to do that one more time:D ;) Of course if he shows up here.

YayGollum
06-16-2003, 12:11 AM
I've been watching this thread for a while. Waiting for something interesting to come up. Yes, the evil sam is pure evil and achingly useless. Is that what we're arguing about?

S & R Gamgee
06-16-2003, 08:12 PM
Do you guys think we should argue about that? That would be fun. Maybe.

Annushka
06-16-2003, 08:44 PM
You could try to argue about that with Yay of course. That`d be fun to follow. Personally I can`t say much about why Sam is not useless and evil. Not because I agree with Yay though:D

Marah Seph
06-17-2003, 11:27 PM
Sam isn't useless cuz he keeps Fro goin that makes the oportunity for Gollum to prove himself. And he isn't evil cuz he woulda used the ring long before to destroy the world if he was.

*feels rather smug*

YayGollum
06-18-2003, 02:53 AM
That's just craziness. He was evil in that ---> He wasn't nice to poor Smeagol. Why was Frodo so much nicer? They both heard the same story from the evil thief Bilbo Baggins. I can only guess that the evil sam was a lot more evil. :D

Annushka
06-18-2003, 01:21 PM
Yay, I know it`s useless to argue with you about this. But anyway I want to point just one thing. I think Sam wasn`t the smartest hobbit ever. Frodo was not only smarter than him, but he was Ringbearer too. For Sam Gollum was just a threat. He couldn`t trust him. And was afraid of him. While Frodo was looking deeper and as a result was nicer to poor Smeagol:)

S & R Gamgee
06-19-2003, 12:02 AM
Do we really need two threads to argue about that? i think we should talk about something else. I think the book is good with Sam and it probly would be good without Sam. Besides if Tolkien says what he says about Sam. Who are we to argue with him?
In the one that YayGollum started he posted this. Read it then we can stop arguing. Cuz as I said who are we to argue with Tolkien, especially about his own creations?

For me perhaps the most tragic moment in the Tale comes in II 323 ff. when the evil sam fails to note the complete change in Gollum's tone and aspect. 'Nothing, nothing', said Gollum softly. 'Nice master!'. His repentance is blighted and all Frodo's pity is (in a sense ) wasted. QUOTE]

He also says

[QUOTE]Shelob's lair became inevitable. His marvellous courage and endurance, as great as Frodo and the evil sam's or greater, being devoted to evil was portentous, but not honourable

YayGollum
06-20-2003, 03:02 AM
Well, you wrote that you thought it would be fun to talk about this kind of craziness. oh well. Looks like people aren't stubborn enough to defend the evil sam.

Marah Seph
06-20-2003, 06:23 PM
hmm, I guess we aren't. Maybe we all secretly agree with you but to say so would get us in trouble because it's a taboo.

YayGollum
06-21-2003, 03:04 AM
Oo! :D That sounds achingly cool to me! :D sorry about that. Since you people gave up, what else would you people want to talk about that has to do with hobbitses?

S & R Gamgee
06-23-2003, 11:18 PM
I'm kinda wierd sometimes I think it would be fun to talk about something then I decide it wouldn't so now I think it would be wierd to argue about something thats already being argued about, anyways I said maybe it would be fun. I have no clue what we should talk about. Why don't you give us an idea YayGollum?

YayGollum
06-24-2003, 08:53 AM
Well, I only really care about Gollum type stuffs, but oh well. We already said how we thought the race of hobbitses first showed up, right?

S & R Gamgee
06-24-2003, 09:04 PM
I don't think so if we did I don't remember.

YayGollum
06-25-2003, 01:16 AM
You know how lots of people seem to think that they're some kind of human? Well, even though I still love my elves ---> orcs ---> goblins ---> hobgoblins ---> hobbitses idea, this one sounds good, too. The Hobbit says that there were Beornings of all sizes, right? The Beornings and Gollum's type of hobbit both lived in the Vale of Anduin, right? There ya go. They're just a race of the smallest type of Beorning, but they forgot how to do turn into bears. Their feet stayed crazy looking, though. Also, the One Ring mutated Gollum. The One Ring works with the abilities people already have, right? So it just worked with the old abilities hobbitses used to have as Beornings and let him shift shape a little to fit his new surroundings. Doesn't that make all kinds of sense?

S & R Gamgee
06-25-2003, 06:47 AM
That actually does make sense. Good job YayGollum!!!!! I agree with that. Fellow Hobbit lovers feel welcome to talk whenever you want. Your bein kinda quiet if any of you are ever on.
