OK,

In this sport, there are 18 players for each team on the field at once.
The playing object is an oval shaped ball.
Four posts are at either side of the field.

Anyone else see that Kevin Millwood no-hit the Giants? Why the Braves let him go for salary reasons will never be completely clear to me...

-hangs head in misery, even though Atlanta won today-

Seriously, a no-hitter with only 108 pitchers deserves all the credit in the world, big congratulations to Millwood.

munchkin
04-28-2003, 01:00 AM
Yeah, I didn't "see" it, but I heard about it. Not to be on a down side, but its not like the Phillies played great either! They scored an amazing 1 run! And Millwood DID walk 3 guys! The cool thing about it is it was the 6th no-hitter thrown on April 27, and the last one thrown on that date was last year when Derek Lowe threw his no-hitter!:D

Speaking of former Braves pitchers, anyone else see Tom Glavine pitch another pathetic game for the Mets? Tom Glavine has such a good arm...it's a waste to see it go to the Mets.;)

As for Millwood, the Braves let him go at the peak of his recovery. I think it's time to send hate mail to AOL/Time Warner, anyone else think so?;)

And lets talk about AFL footy just to spite these baseball freaks ;)

Who do you reckon is the best coach in the AFL?
Mick Malthouse would rank very highly in my ratings. What he's done for Collingwood is amazing. From last to Second in two years is phenominal.
And it looks like Dennis Pagen is doing the same for Carlton.

afl- best team - swannies :D

best player, despite inconsistent, is o'loughlin
best coach: roosy (sorry i am a swannies fan, although... malthouse has done a great job)

Aulė
04-29-2003, 01:27 PM
Roos hasn't proven himself yet. I'll wait till the end of the year before I decide whether he's good or not.
I reckon that if Fremantle gets into the finals, Peter Bell will be a strong contenter for the Brownlow. Same for Ben Cousins is West Coast get in.
But in my opinion, Andrew McLeod is the favourite for it.

Ok, heres my clue. It sucks though, it'll be hard...

"This sport can be played on two different terrains,
you can race, or maybe just play;

One of the terrains is snow,
in the Olympics you can go for the gold;

The other terrain would be water,
if you get good, the competition gets harder;

This sport can be played almost any time,
and I can't think of anything else to rhyme!"

Nefmariel

what the heck is lawns bowls?

Aulė
05-02-2003, 05:58 AM
*gasp!*
*drops onto the floor and goes into a deep coma*

Lawn bowls is an outdoor game in which a ball (known as a bowl) is rolled toward a smaller stationary ball, called a jack (or a kitty). The object is to roll your bowls so that they come to rest nearer to the jack than those of an opponent; this is sometimes achieved by knocking aside an opponent's bowl or the jack.
To begin play, a jack is rolled to the opposite side of the rink, and it becomes the target so long as it stops at least 23 metres from the delivery mat. Players then bowl in turn. In singles and pairs (doubles) games, each player uses four bowls, distinguished to them by a coloured disc on the side.

The sport dates back to the 13th century, although there is a school of thought that claims the Egyptians were playing a form of bowls as early as 5000 BC.
Bowls historians record that the first British bowling club were founded at Chesterfield and Southampton just before the start of the 14th century.
Not long afterwards, King Edward III is reputed to have banned his bowmen from playing bowls because they were neglecting their archery practice and 200 years later, 11 of Shakespeare's plays included references to the sport, although the academics are still debating whether the Bard played the game himself.
WG Grace, the legendary English cricketer was also a bowls enthusiast and was the first president of the English Bowling Association from 1903 to 1905. The Women's Bowling Association was formed in 1931.
The game is now played in almost 40 countries and has been a featured sport at the Commonwealth Games since the inaugural event in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1930.

Now...what would be a popular Australian sport that hasn't been used...

Hmm, cricket?

munchkin
05-03-2003, 07:20 PM
Oh, i thought it was golf because it uses a ball, rich people play it, its on grass, and you go for the lowest score in it. Also, people like the president play it so i though like the king would play it or something, making it be the sport of kings or the other way around.

Aulė

To play this sport, I suggest you wear pillows.
Because you need to capture a flag.
And in the process, may obtain some bruises.
This sport runs for about 20 minutes, and involves 2 teams.

What do you guys think will happen with the Scottish Premier League?

There's one game to go, and Celtic and Rangers are tied on points and goal difference!!!
And they're both due to play easy teams on Sunday.
Looks like it'll be a shootout.

Can't wait. :D

Nitpicking- The Lakers won in 2000,2001 and 2002, but the Spurs won in 1999, so the Lakers only won three in a row, not four.

You can only imagine how much fun I am at parties... ;)

I'd say the Twins were a good team, with some outstanding talent (Torii Hunter, Eddie Guardado is maybe the most underrated Closer in the game), except I'm a Braves fan, who hasn't forgotten the '91 series....;)

Dallas! Go Dallas! I've always hated the Spurs. Go Dallas! Go Braves! Mavericks, Braves, Bavericks, Maves!;)

What people don't see is regular season baseball and post-season baseball is SOOOO different. The Yankees are a decent regular season team. They win the eastern conference but never have the best record. The Braves are an excellent regular season team, and well...actually they have a pretty good record in the playoffs....:p

FoolOfATook
05-20-2003, 02:35 AM
Well, in the past 11 seasons (Since 1991, not counting the evil Strike year), the Braves have made the playoffs every season. They've made it to the Series 5 times (1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1999). They've lost in the National League Championship Series 4 times (1993, 1997, 1998, 2001). They've lost in the Division Series 2 times (2000, 2002). Of the five World Series appearances, they've won once (1995). I guess that's a good postseason record, but really, you could argue that since 1991, the Braves are 1 and 10 in October. :(

That certainly seems like what's happening. I hope everyone's ready for a Dallas/New Jersey championship game.

munchkin
05-22-2003, 02:26 AM
Yay for Aule!

I assume you watched the game last night, FoaT!:D Sometimes it is a good thing that Steinbrener is sooo greedy when it comes to pitching! Anyone who can throw the ball over the plate(but in this case, just throw the ball) makes 25-30 Million! I watched only 1 inning of the game last night because I had to go to bed, but it was the 7th! They walked 4 guys and gave up 5 runs! I'm happy with David Ortiz for that 2 RBI double that inning!:D An intresting fact is Manny Ramerez didn't get a hit, but got on base 3 times! I wonder if there are any Yankees fans in this guild, or FoaT and I just drove them out!;)

Ok, I'm done talking about baseball now. Well, at least for this post! The anti-baseball people must be getting tired of me!;)

Easy one, I imagine.

Aulė

The objective of this game is to win each rally by serving or returning the ball so the opponent is unable to keep the ball in play. A rally is over when a player (or team in doubles) is unable to hit the ball before it touches the floor twice, is unable to return the ball in such a manner that it touches the front wall before it touches the floor, or when a hinder is called.

Well, they did trade him for a former all-star pitcher. If they can only convince Kim to become their closer (he wants to be a starter), then it's a good trade. This bullpen by committee is not the kind of idea that wins championships (not that the Red Sox are the kind of team that does ;))

Game 7 was so close...I counted at least 4 times where Anaheim almost scored. ;) In my opinion, they were the better team in the series, but NJ just 'lucked' out at the end.

Well, they won the baseball last year, you can't expect them to win everything ;)

Do you think anyone can beat Tiger Woods in the US Open?

Did anyone see that the Astros used six pitchers to no-hit the Yankees? Lately, New York seems to be the 180 Million Dollar team that plays like a 40 Million Dollar team. :D ;)

Anyone see that Red Sox game last night? It was just awful. I can't belive that Grady Little didn't pinch hit Freddie Sanchez for Nixon. And Nomar saved the game twice, and they still couldn't win:( . The Red Sox really get on my nerves some times.
