Greetings,
Have you ever dreamt of living in the wondrous world that Professor J.R.R. Tolkien created? If you are anything like me, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”
Well, you are in luck, for there are forces at work right now shaping an interactive virtual Middle-Earth. This world will be presented in a format known as a MMORPG, which stands for “Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game”. If you are familiar with games such as Everquest or Ultima Online, these games fall into said genre. If you are not aware of the genre’s premise, a MMORPG is a game in which you assume the role of a character and participate along with thousands of other players in an interactive environment through the use of your computer.
With that said, I can get down to my real motivation for being here and rousing you all. The game is early in development and that means that we can shape this game into exactly what we want, an interactive version of Middle-Earth that is as true to Tolkien’s vision as one could ever hope for.
I have come to raise the Tolkien fans to arms. I have come to recruit you to fight along side me to create the perfect virtual world that any one who ever dreamt of living in Middle-Earth could get totally immersed in.
But be warned, there are those who would have this Middle-Earth ruined. They care nothing for the works of the Professor and desire such things as thousands of wizards running about and want to have Orcs blocked from attacking the free peoples of Middle-Earth. Can you imagine what the Battle of the Pelennor Fields would have been like if the side of light decided they did not want to fight, and so the Orcs had to sit patiently and wait, unable to begin the attack until the forces of good consented (or reverse that, and have the Orcs decide they did not want to be slaughtered and so put up some non-Tolkien magical force-field that made the men unable to initiate an attack upon them)? What if every other person Frodo met on his quest was a Gandalf, and each went about launching fireballs and shooting lighting from their fingertips? These sorts of ideas are very un-Tolkien and run contradictory to the established vision that is Middle-Earth.
Thus, I have come to you, the sensible Tolkien fans, for assistance. I need you all to rally behind me; I need you all to visit the site and to cry out with me so that our desire to see a world true to the established material may be heard and taken into account.
Unite with me now and we may be able to live in Middle-Earth, at least virtually.
Please take a look at the thread entitled “Take up the quest, Let us journey to Middle-Earth!” and post a simple approval if you agree. Remember, every single one of your voices count, and I need them all!
Please Help Me! (http://community.vugames.com/WebX?13@181.yaAEbPExPOo.1@.efaee80)
Thank you all for your time.
Sincerely,
Hornett,
-Leading the Quest for (virtual) Middle-Earth-
