View Full Version : New Guild-Master

Members of the Guild of Tolkienology,

Most of you know that Grond is the Guild-Master of our guild.
He founded it, he developed it, he has done his very best to make this guild one of the most efficient in TTF!

However, because of numerous duties in r/l he hasn't been able to be with us as often as I'm sure he would have wished. That's why he appointed the Deputy Guild-Masters - me, Gate7ole, FoolOfATook and Hirila - each one of us - responsible for different fields of activity of the Guild:

>> me - Education
>> Gate - Debates
>> FoaT - Ranking

AND!!!!

>>> Hirila - New members and Complaints

Unfortunately, because of duties, Gate resigned from his Deputy-position and I took up his duties as well.

The Guild, however, as I see it, is running smoothly and I would say that no other guild or/and society in TTF is so active concerning the serious approach to Tolkien's writings!

This is surely reflected also in the fact that the Guild has it's representatives on some of the most important administrative bodies of the forum itself! This speaks highly of our efforts!

However, now, with some changes going on in TTF, there is a need of a defined Guild-Master.

This is why, me and FoolOfATook have decided to ask for your opinion of

*********************************
Who shall be the new Guild-Master ?
*********************************

We have 3 days - May, 5-th to 8-th to put forward nominations.
You are invited to nominate people from the Guild as possible Guild-leaders.

On May 8-th I'll open a poll with those names, that shall have received most of your votes and then in another 3-days period we shall vote for our guild new Guild-Master.

Post your nomibnations HERE in this thread.

You are also welcome to post any opinions and comments on this matter.

Expecting your active and constructive attitude,

Yours
Lhun :D

Can we nominate any of the both "assistant Guild Masters" too?

FoolOfATook
05-05-2003, 02:46 PM
Absolutely. Any Guild members in good standing, including myself and Lhun, are elligble for nomination. Unless you're asking if you can nominate new Deputy Guild Masters, which you cannot, at least for the time being.

Hirila

I nominate Lhunithiliel and FoolOfATook as Guild Master.
And perhaps Gil-Galad or Finduilas as new Deputy Guildmaster?

These positions have proven to be of much use, I think. We should keep them. Plus they are not as time consuming as that of Guild Master and will much easier find someone to fit in.

Finduilas

I nominate Lhun as a new Guild Master and as a Deputy Guildmaster GG. I think that Lhun is the most appropriate person for the Guild Master rank.

LOL, Hirila!
Once I asked Grond: "Tell me Master, with so many deputies what then will YOU do if they do the whole work for the Guild? ;)"
And he answered: "Order, dear Lhun! Give orders!" :p :p :p :p :D

Thanks everyone for the interest shown!
This IS important for the Guild!

An outsider opinion:
Either Lhun or FoaT should be the (deputy) Guildmaster (and have moderating abilities within the guild) IMHO...they have both invested a lot of their time and effort into making this guild run smoothly and efficiently.:)

That's just G R E A T!!!!!

From 24 members of the GOT, according to the list, only 4 have posted their opinions so far!!!!

Hmm....It's a hard choice, but both Lhun and FoaT have done an excellent job keeping track of everything around here while Grond has been gone. I nominate both!:) See, now 5 people posted their thoughts Lhun...:D

Mrs. Maggott is rather overcome that someone of Beleg's shining brilliance sees fit to nominate her for anything in the Guild, but surely there are others here far more qualified than I.

I certainly would be willing to assist whomever is elected to fill this position and especially our new (and lovely) Guildmaster, but I fear that my shortcomings would only handicap her efforts to invigorate and inspire the Guild to bigger and better things. This is especially true at the moment with the birth-pangs of the C/9. I would therefore ask to be excused from holding a particular office within the Guild until things are a bit more settled. However, I have been keeping apprised of happenings here and have volunteered to add my poor efforts to Gil-galad's development of a repository of character biographies!

Again, I am honored that I should even be thought of to fill a position of authority in the Guild, but I feel that at the moment I am not able to give it all the effort and concentration required to serve my fellow members.

I am giving to the "nomination" - process another couple of days. I hope we'll get the opinions of the rest of the members :D

On Sunday I'll open the poll for the elections for a new Guild-Master.

Then, he or she ;) :p shall have to step forward with some ideas concerning the Deputy-ship, plus the overall organization of the Guild's activity.

Lhun.... at your service :D

I have been absent for a long time from the activities of the guild, and sadly don’t see any chance of returning to full participation of the guild. Unfortunately life responsibilities have become very time-consuming. But I couldn’t stay outside this important event of our guild, the change of leadership.
Being one of the oldest members of the guild (if not the oldest “active” one), Lhun is, I believe, the more suitable person for the leadership, keeping in mind also that she has spend much effort all the months and is the most “recognizable” person within the guild. I also know from our personal collaboration during my time as a Deputy that she has much energy and will inside her, to run the place smoothly. Besides, the last 4 months she has been the driving force of this guild, being in a way the Guild Master even unofficially. What is now our responsibility is to appraise all her efforts and name her typically and beyond doubt the Guild Master of the guild of Tolkienology. And from the people replying this thread so far, I see that you agree with what I just said.
Another person that has also spent much time recently and deserves some recognition FoolOfATook, can and should be given the position of Assistant Guild Master, a rank that was held by Maedhros during Grond’s time, showing it’s great importance. I’m sure FoAT can handle it very well :)
Finally, another Deputy can be used next to Hirila (btw Hirila, my congrats for your new position). My vote would go to Gil-Galad who has also expressed his will to be a deputy one day. Well, I guess here’s your chance :)

I second the above. :p

Lhun, after seeing this thread, I think that we don't need to hold elections- it seems that all the members agree that you are the one to hold the position of Guild Master!

At any rate, the elections would be rather one-sided, since I plan on voting for you. I would, however, happily accept the rank of Assistant Guild Master, if it were offered, and I agree with everyone who wants to make Gil-Galad a new deputy.

Just my two cents. ;)

As much as Grond was a "guild daddy" (before he abandoned his "baby") as much would Lhun - IMO - be able to be a "guild mom" and nurture this guild.

It might become a gigantic baby... ;)

Bless you my dear Walter. I would be happy to accept a title with this Guild of the forum's most wonderful and talented people. Indeed, I was happy to be "let in"....

So, as any good "Granny" would, I am here with a shoulder to cry on or a place to "vent" for anyone who needs one or the other - and whatever is said will go no further..... Grannies are good "secret keepers"! :p

God bless!

Just a note to let everyone know that I still live. I have been on the road for what seems like a month of Sundays. I go back to Baton Rouge/New Orleans next week and then will be closer to home for the next two weeks. I hope to post a bit more then.

I sincerely apologize for my extended absence. J. R. R. Tolkien and www.thetolkienforum.com are my two favorite pastimes. Unfortunately, after my father's death, I have had some sibling infighting and had to find a new job. I hope to be an active participant in this forum again.

I understand the need for an active guildmaster and am formerly resigning my position. I will become an ordinary member and hope to participate more actively in the near future. I love all you people and am glad to see that our guild is running smoothly and is proving to be all the things I hoped it would develop into.

Don't give up on me!!

Grond, you should know us better than that- we would never give up on our favorite founding father!

Now....... am I glad to see YOU here!!!!!!!

And I would like to believe that you forgive us this little coup d'etat, for I know you understand the reasons why changes were necessary.

Now, look, let's make a deal ;) :p -

It is becoming obvious that the guild-members are willing to grant to me the opportunity of running the Guild. OK! I will accept the leadership and all (I'll soon come up with a more official statement) ... BUT!!!!!!! I personally still consider YOU to be the real Master of this Guild and whatever I do, I'd do it just to keep your "baby" alive and growing up healthy and strong IN YOUR HONOUR :D !!!!! So, I'll consider my new position more like a Co-Guild-Master.....or let's say - your heir. ;)
This will be my part of the deal.
And yours - not to give up the Master-ship of the Guild and let me be your "Co".

Deal? ;)

After all, as you surely must have read above, we are forming up a real family and our "baby" needs a "daddy" very much! :D
We could run the Guild together, couldn't we!

Well?
What do you say? :)

Lhunithiliel is the obvious choice, so I'm glad we don't have to go through the totally unnecessary formalities of a poll to tell us what we already know. It also reflects my view of leadership - that it is a gift bestowed from 'above' that the electorate merely confirms. Jesus said as much to Pontius Pilate. Also, Tolkien himself said "I am not a 'democrat' only because 'humility' and equality are spiritual principles corrupted by the attempt to mechanize and formalize them...." (Letter 186, April 1956)

:)Congratulations Lhunithiliel and FoolOfaTook on being so chosen.

Well friends, the things seem to go this way that you are letting me take over the leadership of the Guild.
I am not too good at those “thank-you” speeches, but I have to tell you this:

I VALUE VERY MUCH YOUR OPINIONS AND SUPPORT!!!
Thank you!

SPECIAL THANKS ALSO TO MASTER GROND for his recommendations and for letting me be his heir. This means a lot to me!

Grond, you founded this Guild, you did a lot to establish and enlarge it and now when I am going to take care of it I promise to you that I’ll do my best not to let you down.
For me, personally, YOU are still THE MASTER!!!

I would also like to thank very much OUR FRIENDS from out-of-the-guild who support us in all the activities of the Guild and have helped it to gain a special place in TTF. I hope they will keep on being such good friends as always, for I cherish their friendship a lot!

Uf…. How was that?! :D

OK!
Now… a few things of real importance:

Please, will not call me Guild Mistress?……this word as you know has quite some tricky variations of meanings! ;)
Lhun would be just fine…as always.

Well, having become the Guild-Master anyway, here are my first “orders” :p

Here is how I see the STRUCTURE of the Guild’s Administration:

LHUNITHILIEL – Guild Master
Also taking care of : Education and Cooperation

THE DEPUTIES

I am honoured to invite as Deputy Guild Masters the following members of the GOT:

FOOLOFATOOK – Assistant Guild-Master and
Deputy on Ranking

HIRILA – Deputy on New Membership

GIL-GALAD – Deputy on intra – and inter – Guild Contests

MEMBERS OF HONOUR

GROND - Life-time Honourable Guild Master :D

MRS.MAGGOTT – Official Representative of the Guild at TTF Administration.

The above five persons will form the Guild’s COUNCIL OF FIVE – an idea by Master Grond which I am happy to implement now.

I am also happy and honoured to appoint as:

HONOURABLE SQUIRES

FINDUILAS
BELEG STRONGBOW
EOL

These young talented Tolkienologists receive the honour of being Assistants to the members of the Council of Five.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Well, I would like to grant some special assignment to every and each member of the Guild, but for me personally, all the GOT-members are special

On the other hand, if expressed in “family relations” the above people are our “baby”’s:
Mom, Dad, uncles and aunties and cousins :D Right?

Now, I think that you all understand that the title one receives means :
>>> responsibility
>>> responsibility and
>>> responsibility !!!

So, I expect the members of the Council of Five and their Assistants to be
>>> active
>>> helpful and
>>> responsible.

I also expect each member of the Council of Five to “step forward” and enlighten us ;) :D on how they see their duties and what new ideas they have for the improvement of the Guild.
For the purpose I will open a new thread.

Thank you for your patience with my looooong post!
