View Full Version : Who is brave,or mad enough,to view all movies in one sitting??

Just curious, as some of my friends and myself, viewed all 3 Star Wars movies in one day (many years ago), took about 8 hours, but a lot of fun. We are already planning viewing all 3 LOTR's movies when out in one day, (even if we see the EE on FOTR and EE TTT,and some bootleg/dodgy copy of ROTK out early 2004). We are all fans/purists of the book, but PJ god bless you, has made it possible. We are guessing that it may take 11 hours +. But who cares!!

Anyone out there planning the same?

ADDITIONAL: I figured have a Barbie, few beers, copy of Tolkien's LOTR on standby, lots of junk food, inc pizza menu on standby...

Love to get some feedback. HH:D

ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am all the way with the idea of an LOTR movie marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!! that would be the best day ever! the breaks would consist of discussions about the wonderful actors/actresses in the movie and the movie itself and would do other dorky LOTR fan things! that will be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo FUN!

I know I will see all three films in one setting, and not the theatrical releases, but the EE's.
The only problem is what to do with the wife and kids:(

Well, I might come a long way with bribery:D

I actually look forward to the final release of the movie, so that I can have an opportunity to watch one LOTR movie after another...I'd really be interested in seeing how each movie flowed into the other. I want to see whether it was really a smooth transition or not.

Ofcourse, I'll go to both the thetre sitting and the EE sitting at a friends house.

They're actually going to arrange a theatre all in one sitting once all the movies have been released! (Here in Finland atleast.)

Last year the local theatre had a FOTR/TTT marathon. Maybe next year they'll have FOTR/TTT/ROTK marathon. But the problem is these things start at 8 PM, so the last film will be finished by 6 AM. And then I'm fast asleep of course. So I think I'll see ROTK just the day after it comes out. But if someone were to have LOTR marathon at home, during daytime, I would like to see all films in one day.

So Hairy Hobbit what part of Aus are you in? I for one would definitely be into Beer Barbie and movie marathon. When I was much younger I used to love going to the movies for the all day marathons. I did 14 hours of Stanley Kubrick one day. Boy was I a weird kid!

I've been dreaming of doing this since before the FotR came out!! There is no way anyone is going to stop me.

I sure hope theatre's around here play a marathon, although I'll have to do the EE marathon myself.

oh yes, most definitely. Only a few of my friends are true obsessors, i will gather them. And then get all the rest of them there against their will and listen to us! mwahaha!
I agree with Elbereth, I would like to see how each movie really flows into the next.
Plus, I'd like to be on the lookout for any bloopers! you know, the ones that all those people find in the movie...

Ledreanne313

Of course. I plan on doing that. That woul;d be really fun to watch all three at once! I would do it alone most likely...but it's actually a good thing do I can say all the lines without getting yelled at. I might not have time, and family members wouldn't be very happy about it, but who cares? I sure don't! I can't wait.

Yes, do it!!! :D I have two friends (they're brothers), both love the movies, one has read the books, the other hasn't. I'll have to plan a sleepover.....must be a Friday night.....start at 9 p.m......end at 8 a.m......? yikes, will have to sleep all day Saturday!!!

Plus, I'd like to be on the lookout for any bloopers! you know, the ones that all those people find in the movie... Ack no, don't ruin the marathon that way! Wait 'til the second or third marathon! ;) :p I would never waste my marathon in that manner!

HI all.
Quickly to Sador, Frankston, Victoria,AUS.

Great to real all your thoughts and views. I was thinking back to when I did the Star Wars Marathon. I can remember watching the last movie with eyes straining to stay wide open. I'm sure that LOTR will far longer. So how can I truthfully watch all 3 movies!!!
I think the key is to start not in the evening, or late afternoon, but to actually start say around 10 am. Finish FOTR say around 2 pm with small breaks. Have lunch, some aerobic activity (whilst discussing LOTR), commence TTT around 3.30, finish around 7 pm. Have dinner (Barbie if you're an Aussie), again some aerobic activity, begin watching ROTK 9pm, finish 12.30 am. TOTAL BLISS!! YET STILL RELATIVELY FRESH!!

This makes LOTR pretty much a total day experience. Im sure you can condense viewing into far fewer hours, yet to have decent breaks, and a few liquid refreshments and still stay focused seems the way to go..

PLEASE SHARE WITH ALL, HOW U MIGHT APPROACH THIS CHALLENGE!! THE MT EVEREST OF MOVIES!!

PLEASE SHARE WITH ALL, HOW U MIGHT APPROACH THIS CHALLENGE!! THE MT EVEREST OF MOVIES!! Perhaps you're right.

Take a Friday off of school, have friends sleep over on Thursday night. Wake up at 6:30 to play basketball. Eat breakfast at 8:00. Utilize every bowl or carrying object and pop every kernel of popcorn you can find in the house. Dump this in front of the televison set. Fill big mugs with beverage of choice. Appoint one person 'Official Disk Changer', have him put in the first one. Tell everyone to be quite, close shades/blinds, turn out lights, turn up volume, and hit the start button.

Try to time beverage refills and restroom breaks with what you consider dull moments, i.e. Aragorn at his mother's statue. Allow no interruptions whatsoever. Watch all three videos straight through, no interruptions.

This is what I shall attempt! Wish me luck.

well at first I was thinking lunch and dinner breaks, but that idea of watching it straight through, with no interruptions whatsoever, THAT would really be interesting...

Gandalf White
05-09-2003, 12:17 AM
With the amount of popcorn I'll be consuming throughout the three, I won't need lunch or dinner breaks! ;)

I have another question: should I have a theatre version marathon and then an EE marathon, or should I wait all the way until the RotK EE?

Replies appreciated.

good point, that much junk food will hold us over.
and plz someone explain: what exactly is EE? is that the extended versions?

Gandalf White
05-09-2003, 02:18 AM
Yes the EE is Extended Edition. FotR has 30 extra minutes, and I believe TTT has at least 40. Who knows for RotK? All in all nearly two extra hours!

Ithrynluin
05-09-2003, 02:44 PM
I would love to see all three of them in one sitting, especially the EEs - which means 10 hours and a half running time...but that's not too much when it comes to TLOTR.:)

Gandalf White
05-09-2003, 03:20 PM
But it does mean all day, which is why I'm planning it for a Friday. I've got no problem doing it on a school day!

That will be so awesome when Episode III comes out! Once I get that on DVD, I'll watch all of them in order - but wait! What order? Chronological, or by release? Aha! I know! I'll do both! :D In one sit! :D

actually, now that I think about it, I really won't be able to last that long without breaks. I'll have intermissions, too. oh! and meanwhile, we could look through all the LOTR making-of books!

In one sit! Hmmm, I don't know if I could do this. Episode III is set to be depressing, with the deaths of all the jedi and Padme, Anakin going bad......Ack, don't get me started. If I did a Star Wars Marathon I would have to fastfoward through all of Episode II, except for the final battle scene. I sure hope they redo 4,5, and 6!

I hope I could do that. Get a bunch of my Tolkien buddies (when I say "a bunch", I mean my only friend who cares about LotR Lol, I only have 2 friends interested in LotR. (2 good friends that is.) The other one's parents think it is evil and violent. :p

I also have a correction. Two of my friends aren't allowed to read LotR. One of them thinks for himself and realizes that it isn't evil, but is content with his parents decision. (Wow, I doubt I could be that way!)

The other though just listens to her parents, thinks them totally evil, and makes absolutely no steps to discover on her own. It can be quite aggravating.

WOW

This has made me really excited about watching all three movies!!!!!!! O my gosh... that will be fun. I have always thought of doing this, since I first found out about the EE's, and even probably with all the theatrical versions. That will be so fun. I just really tried to imagine what it will be like for the first time....... 'I amar prestar aen..' all alone with my snacks..... and my book.....

That will be fun! It would have to be alone, I can hardly stand watching LOTR with people who havn't read the books, because I feel like I have to explain everything to them. then I disapprove of talking. I even got mad at my mom for getting up to blow her nose when she first saw it. (Hey, she left during Bilbo's speech! Who cares if she had to go rent the movie because I wouldn't let her watch mine after that......)
It's not like I have anyone who has read the books to watch it with. One of my friends is a bit young, I think, but she is at least making a decent effort at TTT! My closest friend is to stubborn to read it. I don't give a **** if she reads it anymore, but she obviously wants me too. She always tells me I won't know when she reads it, 'because I'll interrogate her'. I don't say anything. Part of me doesn't even want her to read it, but then everyone should be enlightened with Tolkien. I at least got her sister to read it this summer! She just borrowed FOTR from me. I also got another friend of mine to read it this summer, so that's good! I don't think anyone I really know has read the books. Well some people, but I don't really know them, and that doesn't matter. No, not a single person that I really know! My cousin's swim coach... some of my brothers friends, my younger friend's friends..... (Don't worry, I made them a 23 page quiz over the book when they said they knew more thane me....) I wish I could discuss LOTR with someone!

But I really am looking forward to watching the three movies! I want TTT to come out so I can watch that, and see how the transition goes. I think I will begin making a schedule. I know I'd probably have to go for a quick bike ride or something half way through, I couldn't sit that long! I am looking forward to it so much! I'd just need to get the rest of my family out of the way.... Don't know what I'd do. I wish our theaters would have a marathon, but I don't think they would. Oh well.

I can't wait!

OK

I've been planning on watching them all in a row for some time now. And I know how I'm going to do it too.

You see, I graduate from high school in May/June of 2005, so (at least at our high school) my class would be the first able to view all three movies (and I am talking the extended editions here) in a row. Because I doubt the ROTK EE will be released until the summer or fall of 2004. So I'm going to have, instead of a graduation party, a gathering of myself and my friends who like (or love as the case may be) LOTR over and we'll just watch them. Hopefully it will all work out. And hopefully I'll be able to get the parents to go up north for that day/night so we can watch the movies uninterrupted.

A friend of mine cannot wait. I took him to see the see the Fellowship at the movies and he was hooked. He wants a marathon probably more than I do and I have read Tolkien since I was a kid. And I am jumping up and down at the mere thought of a marthon at the movies.. If it doesn't happen we will send our children the x-spouse's (we are both divorced), cook up some great food and plop ourselves in front of the tv. Any one else interested could come, too. It may only be the two of us because we haven't found that many people as interested as we are, but there is ALWAYS hope. We would include the kids, but they couldn't sit still that long...maybe at the 5 year anniversary event that we wil have. :D

A year ago or so I forced my mom to watch all three Extended Edition LOTR's with me one day. Took us for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.. One of the greatest days of me life.

Also a few years back whe ROTK came out I was at my uncles house and we watched the FOTR. Later that night TTT was on T.V. so we watched that. When that was over my uncle looks at me and says, "If we're really quitewe can get out without waking your aunt and go see ROTK". Of course I jumped at the offer. We got back at 2 a.m.

For all those planning to do it, it's a good time go for it.
