This is going to be the thread to store ideas for topics that would be worth research, discussion or debate.

Maybe we should define and explore
"What is Canon?"
That should fill the think tank up:D

I have an excellent (well, at least I think it is:)) topic for debate that I think is pretty good for the Guild, though I will not post it until I return from España as I have no literature to quote...ole!

Doug, you know that the whole "Canon" bullsh ... errrm ... issue is sort of a a red towel for me? ;)
I do consider everything that Tolkien has ever written as equally worth to be considered...

Ray, we are waiting with "bated breath".... ;)

No, I did not know that you felt that way.
Of course everything that he wrote was of worth, but Tolkien liked to rewrite his stories and contradiction crept in.
Myself I always took the stuff I liked and made sense to me and kind of ignored the contradiction.
The best example was the Flat-earth/Round-earth thing. The world was flat till the Fall of Númenor and then the Valar change the world into a Round world. That is how I look at it.:)

Now IMO the "Canon-issue" appears to me like declaring one as "false" and the other as "true", regarding to your example (and exaggerating some): Since the world cannot be both it has to be either flat or round, eventually it's got to be round, hence the "Canonists" ;) disregard all that has been said about a flat world...

See, my note to self has prompted you Chymaera, as that was one of the questions I was going to pose for the Guild!!! However, since you have cast it open, I think you ought to complete it,)
