... How would their impact on our life would be like?
Would the world be a better one?
Or would jealousy arise, towards them, and over the things
they would create?
I would like to read your thoughts about it...

I think they would be hunted down and killed because people would think they were warlocks or something. Kind of like the Salem witch councils.
Don't worry, I know what it feels like to start a thread that no one goes to. I put one in stuff, and bother called Calling all Cellists, and no one has replied yet. You should check it out if you play a musical instrument.

I would love it if elves were around today. I would runaway and live with them! Yet of course, you might be right, Celebrochwen. Yet I think that they would make it a better place. They could protect out borders better, I think. And people would look up to them and like them.
I know how it feel , too. Most of my threads don't get replies. And I hate that, ecspecially in the Prancing Pony, when you post a poem no one says anoything, even in the Poem Thread.

It would be marvellous to see them alive on earth, but I think that they'd live rather secluded.
Btw Anne, Happy b-day. :)

Thank you again, Scatha! You are very on top of the bithdays, aren't you?

Well, according to HoME X: Morgoth's Ring, Elves do walk among us, though they are invisible to our eyes (having no 'hroa' or body, which faded). There are both benevolent and malevolent ones. The former will sometimes come into contact with some human in whom they sense some special relationship and aprreciation of Nature (Yippee!); and the latter will try to usurp a body of an unwary human - these are to be avoided at all costs!;)
It is of course up to every single individual whether do believe this or not. Though I'm sure most don't take this seriously (along with the rest of Tolkien's 'inventions'), I am not one of those.:)

That almost sounds like a Guardian Angel vs Demon type of Elvish world, if you get my meaning. But anyway, I agree that Elves would most likely face a great prejudice from Humans. After all, they do not get along in Tolkien's world, I don't think they would in our world today....not sure why, I just do.;)

It is possible that Men had come acoss faded Avari or 'Per/Tar-Eldar' spirits before. Maybe he 'barrow-wight' was a faded Elven spirit? Also in the 'Passing of the Grey Company' the Rohhiric peoples, after Aragorn and the rangers etc pass comment on them being 'Elvish wights'.
Also Tolkien comments on them regaining there hroa, in M.T. (HoME 10)
They eventually [became housed, if it can be called that, not in actual visible and tangible hroar
So though Elves may not gain a fully incarnate hroa on the level of their old ones, they due to their spiritual prowess could 'create' something that is somewhat similar to one.
Also:
M.T; HoME 10
The Elves find their supersession by Men a mystery, and a cause of grief; for they say that Men, at least so largely governed asthey are by the evil of Melkor, have less and less love for Arda in itself, and are largely busy in destroying it in the attempt to dominate it. They still believe that Eru's healing of all the griefs of Arda will come now by or through Men; but the Elves' part in the healing or redemption will be chiefly in the restoration of the love of Arda, to which their memory of the Past and understanding of what might have been will contribute. Arda they say will be destroyed by wicked Men (or the wickedness in Men); but healed through the goodness in Men. The wickedness, the domineering lovelessness, the Elves will offset. By the holiness of good men - their direct attachment to Eru, before and above all Eru's works (21) - the Elves may be delivered from the last of their griefs: sadness; the sadness that must come even from the unselfish love of anything less than Eru.)
Men seem to be suspicous of Elves in the T.A so imagine how they woudl treat them in the Seventh....;)

Anyway, they wouldn't linger here for long ... Seeing what we've done to the face of Arda, they'd perish of grief and sorrow. Better for them to enjoy their time in Aman; they've suffered enough.

Yes, but if remain in M-E then that means that they refused Namo's summons so there is no going back to Aman.
Maybe he 'barrow-wight' was a faded Elven spirit?
I believe the Barrow-wights were undead spirits sent by Sauron to keep watch on Eriador after it was discovered that the Ring was there. But, even if Elves still walked visible among us, they would face great persecution. Think about what we could do now with satellites and the like...There would be no hiding.:(

1. Sauorn didn't know the ring was in Eriador. He thought that the Hobbits till resided close to the Gladden fields and realised his mistake later on. The Barrow-Wights had been there for FAR longer then a year or so.
2. In 'Laws and Customs' (HoME 10) Tolkien comments on the capturing of Elven fea and of them being Necromancers in Sauron's host. My comment was pure speculation. his

If the hroa has faded, I am asuming they can no longer have children. If their spirit (fea) dies of grief and goes to Mandos, then eventually there would be no Elves left on ME.

If their spirit (fea) dies of grief and goes to Mandos
Their fea cannot die. It is their hroa that dies of grief, their fea is indestructble. If their fea remains in Middle-Earth upon fading or sevrence of hroa then they cannot go to the Halls of Mandos since they have rejected Namo's summons.

Does anyone go to this thread anymore? Oh well. i Think if elves were around now, they would either be considered a race of humans, be admired, or be hated. I would, of corse, admire them, and not say they were human.

Well, I personally would like it if there were elves among us nowadays. But I guess it's selfish to say that because I'm afraid that the world as it is now would be a pretty miserable place for the elves.
I would like to think that we all - elves and humans - could live together happily ever after, we could learn so much from them and the world would be a better place.
But it probably wouldn't be like this. Yes, people would be jealous, angry and there would probably be wars between humans and elves.
So if it was my decision, I would let the elves live wherever they're living outside this evil world.
One the other hand, who knows what it REALLY would be like...

I don't think there would be much peace between Elves and Men. We can't even live with ourselves without fighting and racism. If there were Elves, I am sure they would try to lead a secluded life.

I think men would be jealous towards elves. I would think elves would live a secluded life. I would imagine that elves would still make places they lived beautiful. I would want to live with them.:)

Elves would be afraid of me. I would talk their ears off and follow around the gorgeous boy elves ( they ARE suppposed to be good looking right). Yep. i would scare them. but i scare every one. so that's not that much of a big deal.

Who says Elves aren't here? I mean, think about all the great leaders and artists that have made the world a little better. How do we know that that wasn't the work of Elves?

The elves are quite scornful of men in M-E and that's without the modern age destruction of nature and so on.
I think there would be much resent from the elves to what has happened to this planet.
And of course the history of mankind's prejudice to anything supernatural, for example witch hunting, doesn't suggest we'd be entirely peaceful.
Alternative however would be for some of us to go and live in middle eath, YAY!!!!

My only thoughts about Elves in the present...
Such skill they have with the bow, just imagine them with guns, not having to reload after every shot, just aiming and pulling a trigger, five of them with machine guns could take down an entire army from atop a hill.
Ridiculous though.
Just a thought.

That's quite a scary thought :(
But if they did wander among us lets hope they wouldn't want to make war with us becasue they could kick our arse anytime. ;) .
Don't you think?

I can't recall the Elves ever wanting to make war on Men. The only Men they fought were the ones who sided with Melkor or Sauron.

I don't think either of us were sugesting that they would, or have any reason to. Sorry for the confusion there.

If elves were here 2day, they probably wouldn't want much contact with the outside world unless they needed to:D

yah, they would probably count us as an inferior race or something....maybe.

Or perhaps they would grow tired of the men of this era, for far short do they fall compared with those of there own. And in a time, for they do not age, they would soon outnumber men, and even if without any malice on there own part, eventually they would hold dominion over the future and the planet that we know of today.

I think that if Elves where among us today and we had knowledge of it, that many people would be jealous or resentful. How many taimes have we been resentfull about people who are better at maths than us, or who can run faster than us?!?
Elves seem almost perfect and I think many people would be jealous of their skill and beauty. i knwo I would be. I wouldn't do anything bad about it, but some others might, and that woud be a disaster.

Perhaps, in a thousand years, elves would even merge with the human race, as slowly as the different peoples of our world merge as well...
Perhaps than the good and bad of both races would fall into balance, and the world could come to peace...
Sad that this would be only a very optimistic (how do you say it?)
way to see the future...

I like the merging idea. That would explain why some people are closer to nature than others. They must have more Elf blood in their past.

The GoD and GoE merged to shrink down the number of Guilds. We made two more subfora, to include the other races of middle earth, so this guild can grow larger then it ever was.
