I have some free time so I will help you defeat Captain Kangaroo and the rest of the Periaur.

EDIT: I finished the post. I hope it helps Beth.

Scatha, thank you for your concern. That gives me warm fuzzies. :D

Aule...well, I'm going to kick your butt. So you just wait. *evil grin*

And Swordmaster: You're a lifesaver. Your post helped me quite a bit, as it is always an advantage to have more people on a team. Two heads are better than one. I appreciate the help very, very much. *hugs!*

You're welcome, Beth. ;)

Aule, do not cheer too early, next time you will be mine. :p

Next time?
There's only 2 Rounds left, so there'll be no 'next time'... ;)

Bethelarien

Oh, sure, but there's always next tournament (assuming there's a next one), or intra-guild debates, etc.

So he can still kick your butt. :D

You should be ashamed of yourselves of leaving a fellow guildmember hanging like this!

*from behind a boulder*
i just had the only exams that will ever count for my 13 years of school......just a small matter. If it is Ok, i will come out from behind my boulder and recommense debating (allbeit horribly....;) :D ). I'll actually quote this time cause i will have time, well after wednesday that is.
*muffled voice finishes*

*muffled voice recommenses*
and can we have a guild of elves vs Aule battle?
Pleeeassseeeee
i can debate again now. We'd have a good time, methinks.

It's ok Omni, you had a good reason. Please let us know in advance next time, in case you didn't. ;)

Next tournament should go better for our guild, we'll have Eol at our disposal and pehaps a number of others. :D

but back on the topic... when will the next debate tournament be?

Aulë

Next year some time.
It may have to be someone else who organizes it though, since I can't be bothered doing it all over again.

And FYI, you guys can count on debating without me. I'm fed up with this, and won't be debating in the tournament for these last two rounds.

Sorry, Scatha. I'm not changing my mind, either.

We will miss your leadership on the team Beth.

I will be able to debate next round. Who else can debate for GoE?

I don't blame you, Beth. Not for a single bit. *hugs*You've been a shining example to the guild, for which I am honored to have you part of. :)

I'll participate in the next round. Should I find myself debating on my own, I shall request the GoE to be removed from the tournament. *serious and determined tone*

Also, the next time someone from this guild, tries to make a mockery of it, or badmouthes it in any way, that I just replied to in the debating society (debates, round 9). I will personally remove the person from the members list, regardless from their status in here.

We are here to run a guild, if you cannot act as such, I kindly request you take your notions elsewhere. Common curtesy among the members of this guild should be a standard. I will not tolerate those that cannot bring up the decency to act as a responsible human being, instead of bashing someone for trying.

Bethelarien debated more then once by herself in the debates, without any support from any of us. For this you should be holding her in regard, not attack the guild for the lack of support.

Beth has my deepest regard for what she did during the debating tournament, I myself wish I could have been there more to support her, which unfortunately my private life and computer issues prevented me to do.

I have withdrawn the guild from the debating tournament, for which you all may thank Aule and his kind words.

Here is the post that Scatha has got all worked up about:
Well every other team manages to get a team in on time... and because of the Eruhini (mostly), the Tournament keeps on falling further and further behind schedule.
If you can't get a team in, just forfeit the round.

Just because I am a member over this Guild doesn't mean I have the right to favour it by letting it get away with tardiness. I have blasted a few of the other Guilds for similar things, and if the situation arose, I would have done the same to my #1 Guild, the Periaur.

I have put countless hours into this Tournament, and even though I am no longer the "official" Co-ordinator, I still seem to be doing all the organizing since no-one else seems to be doing it. If a Guild isn't getting things done on time, I have to 'nag' them into getting it done. In some cases (like Beth's judging in Round 8), the amount of time it takes doesn't matter since it does not delay the Tournament, and I usually just pester the person in a light-hearted way until they get it done. But with things such as issuing teams, hosting, and first-posts, the length of time taken will effect the running time of the Tournament, and action needs to be taken.

This Tournament was suppost to have finished in mid-September. But thanks to a variety of reasons (such as that unplanned 'mid Tournament break' whilst I was away ;) ), it has been delayed. Now, I was hoping to have this all wrapped up by the 20th of November, since I am leaving TTF for 3 months on that day, and coming into Round 9 it looked like we could just make it. But thanks to the tardiness by yourselves, it shaln't happen now. Sure- I know you have been having troubles with participants, but I saw very little effort on the GoE's part to get anything done. Most Guilds plan their teams weeks in advance. The Eruhini always manage to leave it till the last second. As far as debators, you have people like The_Swordmaster, Dain, Omni, Scatha, Beth, and the rest of the senior members bar myself, Eol and YayG. Plenty of potentials, but very little 'do-ers'.

Were it not for me, this Tournament wouldn't have taken place, and were it also not for me, the GoE wouldn't have a team in this Tournament. Sure, you have lost every debate. But you have slowly been getting better, and you have gained some respect from the other Guilds. You are no longer a 'Nancing Legolas Lovers Guild' in their eyes, you are a 'young' Guild that is slowly transforming into a scholarly one. I am proud of the way you guys have kept it together throughout the 'darkness' of this Tournament, but this apparent 'crying over spilt milk' leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

My advice: take back your words about forfeiting the last couple of Rounds, and stick it out to the end. Convince Beth that she is loved, and that you'll support her in these debates. And PARTICIPATE actively in these debates- show the forum what you guys are made of. :)

(PS- Thol is devastated that you are denying him of the opportunity to host your debate. If not for anything else- do it for poor ickle Thol ;) )

Poor, poor Thol....:p

None of the teams in the debate has had a lack of participation from within their own guild, as we have had throughout this tournament, Aule. You were aware of that fact and it stings a great deal to be the focus of a pointing finger, during said tournament, as the only team that has to struggle to get a team together.

I am real tired of being pointed at, for not being able to get a team together in time for a debate. I cannot put together a full team, if there's no co-operation from within the guild.

Now I am well aware that we have finally broken the opinion of being just a 'Legolas lovers guild', something I have strived for since I joined the guild.

In the last couple of months, Beth and I worked hard to break this image, mostly debating with two or three participants. With Omni not being able to debate and my comp on the fritz, Beth had to carry the debate by herself, for which I am very sorry.

Just like her, I cannot bear to see this lack of participation, nor like the taste of being pointed at for doing the best I can, given the circumstances.

It hurts and your pointing finger didn't do much good either. While I may have acted hasty, as SM pointed out so nicely, it does give my personal feeling in this matter. It just became too much and I fully understand why Beth will no longer join the team for the remaining rounds.

We did the best we could, even though appreciated by most on the board, which does not seem good enough. Yes, we lost every debate in the tournament so far, but we gave it the best we had.

SM, if you wish to remain inside the debate, you may recall my post there, as you hold the same rank in the guild as I do. If need be, I will debate with you.

Aule, I know you only wish to see this finished, but you unwillingly pointed a finger where it hurts.... a lot!

Scatha you pulled us out and I will not put us back in unless you want to, and if we have enough support from our guild. Even if we get back into the tournament we must wait until round 10. We don't want to encourage another comment from Captain Kangaroo. ;) :D

11-01-2003, 04:35 AM
Hope you don't mind me sticking my nose into this discussion, but I would love to be able to press on with our Round 9 in some manner. If Aule wants to maintain the schedule, that's fine. We can simply make it up after Round 10.

Scatha, I hope you reconsider pulling your guild out of the tournament. I didn't sense any, um, bad vibe from Aule when he was 'noodging' you guys to get your team posted. And I can vouche for his statement that he's kicked other guilds in the tail for dragging their feet (my own tail has been kicked at least once!:))

Also, I have sensed a relaxation to some degree of the fierce competitiveness that previously dominated the tournament. People are mellowing out and the last two rounds I've been in have been more like the book discussions but with better informed posts. It's made the last few rounds less stressful, more educational and more enjoyable (to me, anyway).

That's all I have to say. I'll be quiet now.

Omni, nice post. That was a very logical and well done arguement. *applauds*

Hopefully your team members can keep up the good work. ;) I think we may win this one, if we keep it together. *knocks on wood*

I unvoluntarily read those. How am I to understand them, provided that both of you are GoT-members as well?
But ... No! I am NOT going to discuss this matter now!
However, AFTER the debate, I most certainly intend to bring this question up.
I shouldn't have read those! :( :( :(

GG, I am enjoying myself immensely. :)

As for the butt kicking, call it competitive spirit. I'm quite sure that this is allowed amongst guilds. ;)

Lighten up Lhun, we both know this is just a matter of speach. Even though both Beth and I are both GoT members, that does not mean we cannot be competitive against it in these debates, while trying to get our team our second win. :D

Gil-Galad
11-16-2003, 03:42 AM
You may gain your second win....you may not too...........But now it will be more difficult than ever!!!You have an angry Wraith in front of you!!!!And a great High King ;):p

Eriol
11-16-2003, 04:00 AM
Congratulations to the Eruhíni for their first win!!

I had an odd notion once. Or rather several odd notions, about several matters, hahaha.

Well, one of my odd notions was that the "teams" for the next tournament (if there is one) should be composed of one member of each Guild. This would not be too popular, I think -- I warned you it was odd :D -- but it would ensure that we got to debate along people we didn't debate earlier, and against teams we never met.

I think this should be fun :). But it will never happen, I suppose.

Another of my odd notions would be for an "interchange program" among the Guilds; so that each debate team would be FORCED to have a non-member among its team. This would also be fun, I think.

I'm nuts, you say? Sure!

;)

Well, whatever is the result at the end, and notwithstanding the fact that I greatly enjoy debating with my GoT teammates, I'd like to debate with you guys (as well as other people from other Guilds) once. Perhaps it will happen outside the next Tournament... it is an attractive idea, for me at least :).

Kick butts, Eruhíni!

Oops, I shouldn't say that, I'm rooting for GoT (obviously). Lhun and G-G and Findi and Starflower will eat you alive!

:D

(A bit more) Seriously now, congratulations to you guys. A great debate against the Scholars.

Lhunithiliel
11-16-2003, 10:02 AM
Omni, I still can't answer your PM because the system keeps telling me that your PM-box is full.
Anyway, what matters is that I have not misunderstood you and it's all right. **handshake accepted**(which I will hardly do with some other people around).

omnipotent_elf
11-16-2003, 10:07 AM
I deleted every one of my messages....but it just keeps on saying "you have 0 unread messages and 140 messages in all box's"
is there any way i can get rid of messages in all box's?
i've tried everything i can think of...but i'm not computer literate (much)

oh, and GG, we don't fear reputations!

Eriol, thanx by the way. It's good to have not lost every round...

Aulë
11-16-2003, 10:58 AM
Delete the messages in your 'Sent Messages' folder, and perhaps delete some of the 'Message Tracking' things. That should free it up.

Scatha
11-16-2003, 11:15 PM
That's sound advice, Aule. :)

Eriol, thanks man. I must admit that it feels very good, the first victory in our first tournament. :)

Lhun, I know there aren't many that can rattle you and get away with it. We are proud to be among those. ;)

Well, SM, I must say I am disappointed. Round 10 is in it's final stages and no posts from you. If it weren't for Omni, who sadly had to leave due to personal reasons, I would have had to debate alone. So much for promises. :(

You were quick to point me my failures, have some in return.
This is not what i'd call examplary behaviour for a guildmaster either.

Congrats to you all for winning your first debate. I couldn't be prouder. *wipes away a little tear*

*sigh* Scatha, if you wish, (and if it is okay with our opponents), I will help you out on this last round. It is NOT FAIR for you to be left on your own. I know how difficult that is, and am willing to help you, if my help will be accepted by both sides.

Scatha
11-18-2003, 12:07 AM
Thanks Beth. :D Since there is little I'd like to see more, I posted the question in the debate thread, for you to join me. *hugs*

I owe you one.

Our 'opponents' agree to have you participate, Beth.

Bethelarien

Alright, I'll post hopefully sometime today.

However, a family situation has come up, and my older sister has been hospitalized with serious trauma injuries. So I may not post until tomorrow. Debate ends the 20th, right?

Scatha
11-18-2003, 11:15 PM
Don't worry about it, Beth. Your first concern is your family.
I'll finish it alone if need be. Tell your sister that there's an elf with her in spirit.

Bethelarien
11-19-2003, 04:24 PM
No, I want to be productive. I'll help you. But thank you for your concern.

And I'll tell her...though I think I'll make sure Mom's not listening, she wouldn't understand. ;)

Bethelarien
11-20-2003, 08:33 PM

Great post, Beth. You now indeed made the first post in these debates and the last one for our team, a job truely well done, as the captain of the debate team. *hug*

Now we're going to have fun next year, especially if Celebthol does what he stated, which is to join our debate team. :)

Bethelarien
11-21-2003, 06:59 PM

That's how a debate should be. That was great fun. :D

We're so kicking butt next year. Heck yeah.

omnipotent_elf
11-22-2003, 01:27 AM
well, i was thinking, how bout in the next few weeks (lets not be hasty) have a two on two debate for the guild of Eruhini. Me and thol vs you two :D
just an idea

but first
*lets party, we've finishded debating, and hopefull will come out with two wins :D*

Bethelarien
11-22-2003, 08:20 PM
Sounds good to me, if the other two agree. We just need to find host & judges. You wanna do that, Omni?

Celebthôl
11-22-2003, 11:25 PM
Sure thing, count me in. . .

Scatha
11-23-2003, 01:38 AM
*grins* Count me in too. :)

This is going to be fun. ;)

Bethelarien
11-24-2003, 06:47 PM
Alrighty then. Whom do we want to serve as the host and the judges? Maybe Swordmaster could host?

omnipotent_elf
11-25-2003, 12:25 AM
Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me :D

Celebthôl
11-25-2003, 11:19 AM
will it be GoE only as judges or anyone?

And PM when if you need any help organising and when you are ready! :)

The_Swordmaster
11-25-2003, 09:14 PM
I'll host/judge the debate if you guys want me to.

Scatha
11-25-2003, 11:53 PM
That might be nice, SM.

Bethelarien
11-26-2003, 06:53 PM
Thanks, SM. Would you be willing to find two other judges? They do not need to be GoE members, although that might be advantageous.

omnipotent_elf
11-26-2003, 09:49 PM
yeah, try to get guild memebers who might be interested in joining the debate team :D

Scatha
11-26-2003, 10:27 PM
Perhaps judges from the other debate guilds?

GoT might be willing to lend a hand. ;)

omnipotent_elf

LOL, sounds good to me. I'll leave that in SM's capable hands, if he's willing to find the judges.

And did you guys check out the tournament judging thread? I won Elgee's vote! Yay!!!!!!!!!! :D

Actually, they started to when we won our first debate.

I have received a few PM's stating that we are doing a very good job in making the GoE a respected guild. :)

Well, Beth, I hope you'll have just as much fun, when you try to lose those pounds again. ;)

At least we got through our first tournament ever, with winning one of our debates. There's little more we could have asked for. :)

OOC: Look, post number 1000. :D

Lady and gentlemen, I give you something for your attention:

The current score in our last debate against the GoT, is now at 3 to 1 in our favor, with one judge left to post.

Well done Beth, for a marvellous closing statement, we have our second victory in this tournament!! :D

Dang it, Scatha. I was hoping I'd be the one to announce it! Oh well. We still won!

*hugs Scatha and Owe* Yay! I'm so happy!

Maybe Nom will still vote in our favor, and we can have a 4-1 win!

OK, I would like 4 volunteers for a friendly debate with and against the GoT. The teams will consist of two members of each guild, debating against eachother. Any volunteers may apply below. :D

As a member of another Guild who has debated against yours, I would like to give my congratulations to this guild for the two wins but most importantly for the way you developed over the tournament including the return to the debate I was the host of.(which as I recall you did rather well in ;))

I look forward to seeing more of you in debates :)

I'd love to debate, but if it's during break (which started today and ends January 5), it's unlikely I'll be able to, as I won't be able to be on the Internet as much. If it's later, then count me in. :D

Thanks for the kind words, Goth. :D

Beth, the debate is planned for January, we'd be happy to have you participate.

So, does that mean that Scatha and I will be debating together? Lovely. :D Do we know who we'll debating against, besides Gothmog? And who's hosting? And who'll be considered the "home team"?

Not to ask a lot of questions or anything. :D Merry Christmas.

GoT will be the host, GG will act as host with Gothmog and Nom as fellow judges. Celebthol and Omni will be part of the GoT side, while Beth and I will lead the GoE side.

Everyone ready to start this??

Bethelarien

Bring it on. Do we know yet who will be on our side, Scatha my love? And do we have a definite start date? And a thread?

Scatha
01-20-2004, 05:48 PM
start date is as soon as possible, thread for it to be opened at GoT. :)
Gothmog, Nom and Walter as judges.

Beth, can you by chance shorten those 'deep thoughts'? It screws up the width of the board. :p

Scatha

All participators please report in the thread at GoT.

The thread is here (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?p=396419#post396419)

*sticks her tongue out at Scatha*

There, I shortened it. Happy now? *mutters something unintelligible about nit-picking men*

;)

Stick out your tongue? Odd way to ask for a kiss, but oh well.... *smooch* ;)

Thanks hun. :) *hug*

Bethelarien

 That was surprising. If I stick my tongue out again, does that mean you'll kiss me again? ;)

Anyway....back on topic....I've posted the opening post for the debate. Don't hate me. Findi and I discussed it earlier. I would have waited, but I felt it was for the best to post before the other side. If you're unhappy with me, well....I'll deal with your displeasure.

Scatha

I don't hate you for it at all, Beth. Seems that the reply is taking a little longer then you anticipated though. ;)

One other point, Aule is organising an inter-guild quiz through IRC, and is looking for participants from each guild. A requirement should be a decent knowledge of Tolkien and fast reaction skills. ;) Anyone up for this?
