May I ask what the topic is? Or hasn't it been decided yet? If it has, then please tell me or PM me as I certainly need all the time I can get to study up!

Usually the topic is announced just before every debate.One of the teams picks up one of the sides and posts its opening posts.Then the debate begins.It lasts exactly one week and then the judges have to post their opinions.

The same rules(with some very little changes )will be used.
As you probably know the coming debates will be part of our preparation for the next debating Tournament.

I have to admit that I'm not sure. But since the other team already has all his members, they are only waiting for us. So as soon as a fourth member appears, we'll probably start. Oh, and we have to decide which members will be exchanged (from our Guild I mean).

If you find out later that you really cannot say anything at all, then you can stay asaid and watch in the first debate. After all, that is what the preparation debates are for - to gain experience.:)And it is going to be a friendly debate, so dopn't worry.;)

The debate will be an educational one, friendly. We have two teams, four members. Two of the Tolkienologists 'become' Eruhini for this debate; two of the Eruhini 'become' Tolkienologists. The idea is to gather experience and different style of debating; to see others' methods towards debating; strategies. When the debate is over, members return to their Guilds and tell their co-guildmembers what they have learned from the other team. Thus we exchange experience, tactics and prepare for the next years Debating Tournament.
More or less, that's it.:)

Really... I guess I must be some strange type of arch... (and btw: isn't being lazy "written down" in everyone's fate? just wondering;)).

Scatha would be the dragon to ask about this. He's the one who's mainly coordinating things. I do not know in what guild the debate will take place. As for our missing judge, we are actively looking for one. However, it seems that many people are tired of judging from the Tournament, or are too busy. Or don't want to. So we're still one judge short.

And I must admit to some confusion (naturally, all Scatha's fault). ;) I don't understand exactly how this debate is going to work. Could I bother someone to explain it to me, please?

I am sure you are a good debator!!And you will have the chance to participate in many debates.An exchange debate will start soon and the teams are completed,but there is another possibility; you can debate 1vs1 if you want.Just choose anyone from GoT and ask him whether he wants to debate with.You.I remember that Finduilas was willing to debate agains somebody.If you want to debate against real "master of the debates" you can ask Inderjit S.

I dunno, I think I'd like to do some more intra-guild debating for practice before I do the real thing. Actually, I believe I have debated with Finuilas before in one of my other threads. Although it wasn't really a formal debate. I have also debated with Eriol on two occasions. I would love to debating with Findy again, and I am currently in the midst of another debate with Eriol. (However, my debates with Eri were not really Tolkien-related.)
