Speaking of movie Legolas here:

I used to like him, but he is so liked by so many people and I just got sick of hearing about it. Now I am disgusted with it.

I don't see what the huge deal is about him. He's not bad... I'll give him that, but surely he is not so great as people would make him out to be.

If you are going to be in love with an elf why not one from the book? Now those are real elves... especially those Noldor! Who could resist them guys? ;)

But even if someone does love Legolas of the movies... how can they not be turned away by his zillion other fanatics?

Anyhow, the worst part of the whole thing is that now you can scarcely start a topic about real Legolas without folks making it about movie bozo.

The whole phenomenon is annoying.

But it's things like this movie Legolas that make me glad there was no Glorfindel and especially Gildor Inglorion in the movie. Imagine how ticked off I would be if everyone started loving them just because of th emovie and went around saying how hot they are.

I have heard many girls claim to have liked Legolas before the movie even came out, okay I wont say they are lying... but it does make me wonder.

Of all the times I heard of girls liking book elves... it is always Glorfindel, Beleg or Finrod... and yet there is only one elf that I have seen female fanatics of, that is anywhere near the Legolas level.... that is Finrod. (not at this site, with Finrod, suprisingly)

And it does also make me wonder that someone who loved the book character Legolas so much could be so taken with the movie one.

I mean, I can not imagine I'd go nuts of movie Gildor or Pengolodh... there is just no way they could match my image. Even if they looked the part, they could not speak it... I judge that based on the elves in the movie.

But furthermore, there is little book Legolas discussion among these Legolas lovers.

Oh hehehehe... Am I asking for trouble?

The guy in my avatar for example... enough to make Legolas look like an orc. ;)

Being a male, I can't understand at all why girls go so crazy over Orlando Bloom. That's really who they like anyways, not 'Legolas'. I wish they'd just call themselves "Orlando Bloom luvers" instead of "Legolas luvers".:rolleyes: I guess this thread is mostly for not liking the movie 'Legolas', right? I don't have anything bad to say about the book Legolas; he was great. Still, I prefer reading about the Noldor...Feanor rocks! :D

I totally agree with everyone here. I may be female...and yes, I do think Orlando is very cute...and yes, I love the character Legolas in the books. Yet...I think Orlando has destroyed the real Legolas. Legolas is an amazing character...as everyone else in the book also...yet by Orlando playing, people only like it for him. I think that is ignorant and rude. It is disrespect for Tolkien.

I am very picky about people and Tolkien. Pronouncing things right...differences between movie and book...and so on. And I have to say that this is the thing I hate the most.

You should take a look and post in my thread in the Guild of Elves, A.t.E., or Abuse to Elves. Most of it's about Orlando and Legolas and at the end it started talking about Glorfindel and Arwen. I would love it if you posted your thoughts there!

I'm not especially bothered by all of the crazy people that especially like the movie version. I'm only paying attention to the character. They are both the achingly typical heroic type that you can find in way too many stories.

YES it's a bar. We've all just been talking here by the door. Let's go inside! We've got a big kitchen inside so almost anything you want we have. Hey, we even have a sound-proof so we can't hear the obsessed Orlando luvers who happen to be one building to our right.

And yes, there is a heated pool. It's temp. right now is *checks* 89F. However, anyone who goes in it must be wearing a shirt and bathing shorts. oh, and no running on the side of the pool. That's all.

Orlando Bloom, is one of my least favorite actors, he almost single handedly destroyed LOTR.

How can you not like legolas? How can you not like OB? He's a genius actor! I mean cmon the only reason you dont like him is because everyone else likes him! What if Tom Cruise had played him? (NOW THAT WOULD BE EVIL)... But instead you choose to single out an actor who was cast in the role for his raw talent... not his name! I mean cmon! GUYS GUYS, please calm down! OB is not all evil, and he is not all good either. It's like this lifeling, we like Legolas, but we don't like how he's not Legolas anymore, he's now OB. When ever someone now says "Legolas" everyone thinks of OB and how good looking he is. It's like OB changed his name to Legolas! And we (at least I) don't hate OB. He's a good acter and looks like a pretty cool guy. All we (I) don't like about him is he's taken over the Legolas of the books (and this is by no fault of his of course).

Guys, my Internet isn't working so I can only sneak on my bros comp. If you want some drinks, food, or something help yourself. (There's also a pool table in the back if your interested).

I just figured if we all ingested some Loosey Liquid we could relax a bit and have a good time

I cant say that Orlando Bloom has portrayed Legolas deficiently, certainly he has done a credible job. I think that the movie makers have put a spotlight on the Character of Legolas as we see him achieving miraculous things that set him apart and above humans & their capabilities.

Of course Orlando's star would rise after the success of the films and also do to his looks, but it is a shame if his newfound ' star-power' overwhelms the collective good of the casting. To be honest I wasnt sure how it all was going to fit together but after seeing the actors flesh it out they have performed admirably (maybe with some detractors like Elrond but that is another post)

The 'good of the casting' to me lends itself to the portrayal of the subject matter of the book, but not just on the storyline of the film (which we all know is abridged and shuffled), but also on the characters and their physical/social/emotional relations to each other which I find to be spot on when compared to the book.

I havent read the books in awhile, so I really don't see how PJ messed up Legolas' character. What I hate is how people refer to OB as "legolas is so hot"(says this in a mocking tone). That referal of OB = legolas and visa versa really ticks me off.

Yup. I know the feeling. I was watching FOTR this morning and my aunt was sitting there drooling and doing the "OOOHHHH!!! HE IS SOOO HOT" thing. And I was doing the "Excuse me while I go thow up" thing. And it's not really just OB. All the hobbits(in the fellowship) are so "out there" and they say things like "who do you think's hotter? Legolas, Frodo, of Aragorn." Now if they started saying Borimier was hot then I would really freak out!

EDIT: And another thing. Isn't it so fut to watch Gandalf and Saruman beat each other up? :D :D

Yes indeed...those suprises always bring more fun to bring to the table....but what I love the most are those scrumptuous braids...oh so pretty! I would just love to spend ours braiding their beautiful flowing beards!

I'm not sure OB deserves all this but it is sooo annoying when girls behind you are going "blah blah Orlando blah blah, better than Justin Timberlake, blah blah blah blah, yak yak."
I used to like him, but that everyone does it is all rather pase.
Anyway, that horse stunt in TTT was hilarious, i actually nearly burst out laughing in the cinema, it was just ridiculous.
Infact, i dont hate orlando, legolas, orlandos portrayal of legolas; i just hate obsessive crazy fan girls. Sheesh, why cant you just keep quiet about it.

*peeks head in the door* I'm sorry to interupt but I was reading through this post and I just wanted to maybe add a comment or two. Some of you may not think I belong on this particular thread and I can understand why you may think that. I know there have been a lot of people here defending OB and his portrail of Legolas and while I may not be an exception to that, I just wanted to make a few comments. I hope you don't mind.

First of all I'd like to say that everyone is entitled to thier own opinoins and nothing I or others say will change that.

Now let's give credit where credit is due shall we? OB first auditioned for the role of Faramir but was asked to read for Legolas. I personally feel he could have played Gimli and the fan girls will still be rabid. Let's face it, it isn't the character he played that makes these girls woo, it's the fact that they think he is gorgeous. Secondly, he did not invent the character of Legolas in the movie. I realize a lot of you have a problem with OB's portrail of Legolas, but once again, give credit where credit is due. What I mean is, he didn't write the script, he didn't direct the movies, and he certainly didn't create the blond wig that he wore everyday, that was Peter Jackson and company. Third, it isn't OB's fault that so many fan girls out there are going ga-ga over him. All he did was act in a movie he was cast in and the girls made thier decision to fawn all over him, he really had little to do with it.

To sum it up, don't shoot the messenger. If you don't like him then don't but do it for reasons he had control over. Don't do it because Suzy across the street or Tanya down the block have posters of him plastered all over thier bed room walls. After all, he didn't go over to thier houses and tack them up.

Just my two cents.

I totally agree, Orlando Bloom is.... lets just say I shouldn't continue that sentence. My friend used to be gaga over him, but thankfully she's over him now. :) Unfortunatly, now she's all over another LotR guy, and this time its even worse. (I hope she doesn't decide to join the Forum. Oh, well.)
Anyway Legolas was an o.k. character when I read the book, but now I don't really like the character or Mr. Bloom. Change that, I don't like Legolas, I despise Orlando. That's better.
Power to the Orlando Bloom haters!!!!!!!!!!!!!
