Shall we have our "City" ?

In the "Round Table" and in "Directory" threads it has been discussed whether to organize the threads in our Guild into sub-folders or no.

My idea is to make it like this:

We may have a "city" , not just a Guild.

In this city and around it we can have "palaces" and other "establishments" - all these ssubject to further discussions, which will host threads grouped for the purpose or/and their content.
Example: "The Royal Palace" - will host the service-organization threads like "Happenings in the Guild", "The Council of Five" etc.
OR
"The Palace of Many Meetings" - the threads "Meet the Guild", all the Application - related threads etc...
"The Palace of Lore" - all threads like the "Study", the "Gallery of Characters" etc....

The sub-forums = these "palaces" will help IMO each memebr and/or visitor to better and easier find what s/he needs.

The space provided for our Guild will look like the Debate Tournament - there will be subforums with respective names.

All this I think will put a good order in our house :)

But BEFORE I speak to the mighty Mods we shall have to :

1/ Decide - "Yes" or "No" for such an organization
2/ Chose names for the "palaces" or whatever locations there will be .... IF they are meant to be


FOR THE MOMENT I ASK YOU TO JUST SAY WHETHER YOU APPROVE OR DISAPPROVE THE IDEA OF REORGANIZATION.

I agree with the reorganization of the threads and like the city idea but I think that the "Palaces of ......" are a little cliche and boring. We should try to be creative and come up with good names (though my own mind is blank right now.)

The idea is a sound one, Lhun, but the naming is somewhat bland and un-inspirated.


Example: "The Royal Palace" - will host the service-organization threads like "Happenings in the Guild", "The Council of Five" etc.

New example:

The Great Hall= The council of five, etc
The Tavern= Meeting the guild, application related threads
The Gates= Application thread
The library= study, quenya, etc

Everything nicely medieval related, but within the Tolkien spirit.

I must say that I voted against the idea without giving it enough thought. After reading the thread in its entirety (which I should have done before voting) I think the idea is excellent and like Scatha's medieval designations. Change my no to a yes!! :)

How many "folders" shall we have to house the respective threads. When I spoke to Beorn, he said we shouldn't have them too many!
But isn't this the whole idea - to organize possibly more threads into one "folder" (whatever name we give to it) so that everyone who comes into the space of the Guild could more easily find what interests her/him.

OK something like that:

The City-->The Guild ; The Common Hall

The Guild is where actually 'we' the members will gather and have our problems solved and things arranged and The Common Hall is where the not so in-Guild activities will take place and that's the place where after a debate is held it maybe put in The Hall so that all members could see it. I mean that this Hall may serve as a storage room where we will post our debates,researches etc. so that everyone can see them but also it may serve as a judging ara of it.
What do you think of it?It's not a very nice adiea but I couldn't think of something else now.Sorry.
Therefore I suggest to organise these to as it follows:

The Guild--> .......(I think this has to be longly considered;how many 'Royal' and other Halls there should be for Threads like Happenings etc.)

The Common Hall--> The Hall where our works can be posted ; The Hall where the judgements would be posted

I voted no. My personal opinion is that the Guild is okay the way It is, I don't really think there is any need to change any thing and make more sections, which would only add to the confusion and would take longer time to acess. (For people like me whose modem conection crawls at the speed of a snail)
Right now, It is very easy to access any thread I want to in the Guild, the lay out suggested IMO would be a trouble in Navagating.

That's my personal opinion, but offcourse I'll go by majority's decision (If it comes to that.)

.......hmhmhm I don't know how to name them but I think it should be organized something like that:

-organization folder-threads concerning organization and information:new members,happening,member list,debate matters,meet the guild etc

-knowledge folder-lectures,the gallery,Tolkien's biography,discussing his work,languages in Me,etc..

-folder for art-the melting pot,round table,the hall of essays,etc

-folder for common things-Grond's day,etc...........

but that's just an idea nothing special.

Well I was more with Beleg on this one, that the guild is fine as it is, but upon thinking about it more and watching the developement of this thread, I think it'd be good to have. It would be something that makes GoT a bit less ordinary than the other debate/discussion guilds.

If the 'city' is concerned (sorry...have we decided if it would be a 'city' or other 'place'?), I think that Scatha's suggestions are good.
But...
I'd prefer more 'Tolkien's mythology-related-names' (it looks weird, but I don't know how to explain this--see my suggestions;)) for places in our 'place' (I called it 'place', because I don't know if my names fit in the 'city';):D).

Having perused the thread, I certainly think that our "divisions" should bear Tolkien inspired names, but they need not be limited to Valinor or the Sil. More people are familiar with LOTR than the subsequent "prequal". Serious "Council of Five" stuff might come under the more apt "Council of Elrond" name and so forth.

At the moment, my brain is on cruise contol, so I don't expect to be very inspired. I will leave it to my fellow Guild members (who've had the guts to take the test and be placed) to decide the "decor" of the new re-arrangment.
