Ok Periaurs...

I need your help.

We need to revamp this little ole guild of ours, and make it the happening place that we all know it can be. However, I need ideas to make this happen. So if you all could be so kind as to answer the following questionaire in hopes that we can make the Guild of Periaur the best it can be. Thank you for your time.

----

1. What would you like to see in the guild of Periaur that is not already here?

2. What are your expectations of the Periaur guild?

3. Do you think we should be more Tolkien focused?

4. Should we invite non-Periaur folk to participate in the discussions of our guild? (if so...what should be the criteria to enter?)

Now that the age restriction has been altered (to 15 - 35), I'll start poaching people from other Guilds. :D
Go me :)

I don't think we should be more Tolkien orientated. The more wide-ranging discussions that we have about 'life' are what makes the Periaur fun.

What we need is for you to have an exciting relationship problem that we can all discuss at length. It doesnt have to be you of course, but as guild leader, you should set an example! Go on, Elbe, your guild NEEDS you to!:D;)

Actually, I have had lots of exciting relationship problems recently...but I just been keeping most of it to myself lately. Elbie has not been a very good girl lately....*blushes* (But seriously...you don't want to hear my stuff...do you? )

Seriously though....I want us to have a little more Tolkien related topics ..this is a Tolkien forum afterall...let's not forget our roots...but yes, the majority of convo should be related to our generation. I think with the right mix...the Periaur can be a guild that everyone would love to be a part of...don't you?

Here are my answers:

1. What would you like to see in the guild of Periaur that is not already here?

Er, more threads? :P

2. What are your expectations of the Periaur guild?

Get to know you all, make friends that are accordingly more insane and mature.

3. Do you think we should be more Tolkien focused?

No. I think thats the hook of it.

4. Should we invite non-Periaur folk to participate in the discussions of our guild? (if so...what should be the criteria to enter?)

Sure. The criteria? Be tween?

I am really sorry for intruding and If you want, I will delete my post later but after hearing Snaga's post I just wanted to butt in.

I am not a member of your guild but I think that the threads in your guild are the most fun to read!!! Snaga is right, your guild is Unique and prestigious because it not only discusses Tolkien but discusses other topics which are important as well as fun.

I am sorry again if I broke some rule. Please forgive me.

What rule did you break, Beleg? Seriously, this is the most laid back Guild I“ve been to, so no-one should feel they can“t post. Plus, it“s good to know that someone appreciates us!

Elbereth

I must agree with Legolam!

There are no rules broken by voicing your opinions in here...I have always been open to letting non-Periaur come in to hang out. This is a place for everyone who feel the spirit of the guild in their hearts.

And I appreciate the compliment Beleg. It really means alot to hear that we appreciated by those outside of the guild. Thank you!

Sorry to interrupt, but what exactly is this guild? What is it's purpuse? Who is in it? How can you join? What do you have to be to get in? WHAT IS A TWEEN!?!? Just a few Q's...

Niniel

This, my friend, is the Guild of the Periaur, the Half-Olds! The guild for all people aged 15-35, wo like to discuss Tolkien's work in relation to their own experiences, and basically everything else that concerns people our age. A tween is someone in his twenties, and most members of the Periaur belong to that group. To become member you only have to fit the age-group, and send a PM to FoolOfATook.

Legolam
12-12-2003, 07:57 PM
To be honest, you don't even have to be in that age group, just be a Tween at heart, ie up for having a laugh and enjoying life. You'd be very welcome to join, or just chime in with any ideas you have when you're browsing the Guild, we'd be honoured to have you here :)

1. What is exactly is this guild?

I think Niniel summed it up well. We are a guild for people new come to adulthood ages 15-35. Originally the guild was set up for those members of the Tolkien forum who are in their twenties to meet and discuss tolkien, expressing their unique perspective of the tales as well as offer other topics that concern and are of interest to our generation. Originally open to only member 19-32....the guild has recenlty been opened to a wider age range, as we found that the spirit of a tween can be found in both young and old alike.

2. What is a Tween?

A tween is a person who is newly come to maturity, who has to face the responsibilities of being an adult, but is reluctant to give up their youthful spirit. It is a very broad term...and yes it can be applied to people whether or not they fit the Periaur age range.

3. Who is in the Periaur?

A members list is located in this thread (link to come)

4. How can you join?

Contact the guild leader and they will add you to the list. The current guild leader is myself, Elbereth....and when I am absent, (which will be alot in the next few months as I will be traveling on business) contact FoolofATook.

5. What do you have to be to join?

You simply have to have the "Tween spirit"...and feel willing to share that with the guild.

argh, what be that on the horizon

argh smells like tween spirit.

sorry, I've had a very orientated day, I feel like being distracted.

Hmm, I feel a bit has been lost from our little guild, but it seemsto be that people are not as prominent as we used to be (I'm as guilty as anyone - if not more so) I'm gonne be honest and say I don't think the debates helped.

I don't think we should be any more tolkien orientated than we already are, I am getting a bit worried about how tolkien orientated this whole forum is (which is weird what with it being a tolkien forum and all) but I read that stuff and bother is not for rubbish any more and we now have random special places to add to thing to filter out rubbish etc.hmmm, I don't like it.

but thats just me

tweens forever - can't talk now - I'm off to watch red dwarf.

As much as I hate to admit it...I have to agree with you Legoman. The increase of "tolkienism" in this forum may have killed the spirit that made this forum so great in the past. I know the change was meant to make the forum more "tolkien-oriented"...and also to weed out the membership so that only "quality posts" remain for the benefit of the forum. However, I think in it's place it has left the forum a less friendly place to visit.

I would like to be more positive about the forum...because it was a place I that I had grown to love...but recently I have not had a reason to support it.

I've joined this forum and this Guild just recently, and I haven't got a chance to take a glance at all threads... But, I will still offer my humble opinion.
I have to agree with you on your last post, Elbereth. I was a member of this forum before, for a while, but I had to sign off due to some problems some 1,5 ago. Now, when I victoriously came back, I found this forum to be much more...hmm, how to put it... conservative, strict. Of course, that happened for a reason, I admit the forum has been cleared up very much, but if it progresses this way, it will be cleaned up too much.
As soon as I signed in, I rushed into this guild hoping to be a place I need - a place to discuss Tolkien, but not just Tolkien. :) I also applied for the GoT, 'cause I want to learn more and discuss about T in many different sides (and that is the best way to learn, right? ;) )
We must make sure this Guild doesn't loose any of its tween spirit. Why should it be more Tolkien-based, when almost all other Guilds are strictly Tolkien-based?!
As for some changes, I was more thinking about topics which discuss implementing Tolkien's work and philosophy in everyday life... You know, "applying Tolkien"... no matter it sounds stupid, it can bring change into one's life, at least a bit... That Gandalf's "what we do with the time given to us" has in many ways changed my way of seeing things...
Why not make threads that could discuss problems, or more philosphical threads where we could discuss essential questions, and - why not? - try to find some of the answers in T's work?!
And what about us, dreamers? How many times have I talked with my friends what would it be like if we could "sneak" into the Felloship, or if we were born in that world... you know, imagining, day-dreaming... fantasies... To talk about something like that, without necessarilly being in a RPG!

Of course, these are just propositions from a rather excited member, but I think we should carefully consider all things we must do and things we want to do, and then make some plan that could reconsile these two.

You seem to hit the nail on the head with your last comments....that is exactly the kind of threads that I'm looking for. We can talk about Tolkien without getting all preachy...and also without having to quote half of the book. I want us to be creative ....to talk about Tolkien in a different way then the rest of the forum. And Melian...if you would like to post that thread suggestion, "what we do with the time given to us", I think it would be great!!!

PS...Thanks for the birthday shout out! I did have a wonderful birthday...I got to sleep in, I treated myself out for dinner...and then had drinks with a few of my friends....it was very good. (My actual birthday parties were held a few days earlier on the 13th....and I couldn't have asked for a better celebration)

I want to do something creative that has something to do with Tolkien but won't take a lot of commitment as my time recently has been very limited.

Therefore, I propose (sp?) doing another "Hempdread's hot summer music festival"...this kind of thread is fun and doesn't really require one to commit too much of their time researching tolkien. You write what is fun for you, while remembering to keep Tolkien as inspiration.

What do you think...

I will give you guys a few days to mull this over and then make my decision as to whether I will start it.
