Hello fellow council members. I think we all know the purpose of this thread. But I will say it anyway. This thread is for the GoE High Council members to discuss, and decide the future of the guild and any problems that may come.

Well the first thing of business is for every council member to post saying that they found this thread.

Ahhhhh!! My great Empire has fallen at last!! My masterpiece!!! The last remnants have now been wiped out by all of you!! Ahhh well...I suppose that is what happens when you forfeit power, one ruler will never be like the last I suppose. Farewell all of my Elves, my council has now fallen, my work is dead!:(

Rasec

No, Glorfindel. Your Empire and your work haven't fall. Because it still echoes around this Guild, even if it does not have your name on it. For me, you're still the great Master. =))

Wow, there's been some changes on TTF I was not aware of until today. Omg. Well, if someone there can explain what's happening, I'd be flattered to know. ;)

See ya all,
'Rasec.

Rasec, my friend, I've been very active this whole time, and even I'm not quite sure what all has happened, other than GoR/P being closed/banned. Very confusing. No lo entiendo. :D

Okey dokey, SM, I found it.;)

Ah k- I think we need to kick start the new sub-foras.
Any ideas?

I think a debate of some sorts and some "in depth" discussions could help.

The_Swordmaster

Now that most of us have found this thread we need to get to work. ;) We need to figure out the rules of the guild. As some of you may know the two former guilds had almost completely different styles of running a guild. The Guild of Elves ran a strict guild. With members having to request to make a thread. Also the guild had a ruling council. The Guild of Dwarves on the other hand had a little amount of rules. Members could make threads whenever. All members had a say in the future of the guild. The council thread was an open thread to all members of the guild.

These two guilds were quite different as you can see. We need to sort out the rules for this guild very soon.

Eöl

I think members should have a say in the matters, but it should be a separate thread. This thread should be for council members to discuss the ideas from the other threads. I don't really like the idea of giving members free rein over thread posting, I think it encourages spam.:( Just my 2 cents.

Gamil Zirak
10-21-2003, 07:38 PM
I don't think members should have to ask permission to start a thread. We aren't watching everyone under a microphone. We can have rules for what threads can and can't be started though.

Scatha
10-21-2003, 10:02 PM
Yes, SM, we ran a strict guild at the old GoE, mainly since the amount of Legolas lovers is staggering after each release of one of the movies.

Frankly, all the members had to do is to PM one of the councilmembers to get permission to start a thread. This is the way I set it up and liked it. With a free reign to post just about any thread they please, the amount of spam will drastically increase, especially after the 17th of december, when LOTR part 3 will be released in the cinema.

I am very much against the concept of free posting, as this will only lead to senseless threads, which I would sincerely not see happening in the new Guild. I believe in running a tight ship, fairly, orderly and decisively. Senseless posts should be locked and archived, including those posted without permission.

==============================================

The Debate team:

This will have to improve drastically, as the amount of participation is at a grave lowpoint. Discussions will have to be started within our own guild, to raise interest for the tournament.

==============================================

Subfora:

These will have to brought to life, by the start of some new threads and discussions, in their respective fora.

*Discussion threads
*Threads about the various races
*Workshops
*etc

==============================================

Membership:

Has to be earned and not given when asked for it.
This means the prospect member will have to be active within the guild for at least 3 weeks, with an absolute minimum of one post a week.

==============================================

The deputy guildmasters and the council are there to discuss which venues to follow and to make the rules, not the members, but we need to keep these rules from being too strict, without losing control over the posts.

*my 2 cents*

A very good idea Eol. I think we should have to two thread system as Eol suggested. One for Council Members and the second for the rest of the members.

I don't think that the ability to make threads freely will increase spam. If someone makes a thread that is pointless or stupid all it takes is a click of a button to delete it. Also we can make a thread in each subforum stating that all pointless threads will be deleted.

I agree with you Scatha 100%. This has to change. We need more debators and more discussions in the guild. Whenever this tournament ends we need to start intraguild debates and other such things to encourage members to debate.

Once again I agree with you Scatha.

It's a good idea but I'm not sure if I want this to be the rule for people requesting membership. I'll have to think about this.

Scatha
10-30-2003, 05:56 PM
Ok, SM, you think on it. But remember that after the release of LOTR (ROTK), especially the elven section will be crawling with new people applying to become a member (legolas luvers), who will post for about a month and will not be heard of after that.

Exactly that extra pressure is what I would like to avoid, of needlessly having to add people to the memberlist, who will fade away after their initial enthousiasm has died. (Just as it did after the first two movies) ;)

I am happy however, to see you agree on the two other points of mine. We really need a better debating team, with participation from all the subguilds. :)

Also, the next time someone from this guild, tries to make a mockery of it, or badmouthes it in any way, that I just replied to in the debating society (debates, round 9). I will personally remove the person from the members list, regardless from their status in here.

We are here to run a guild, if you cannot act as such, I kindly request you take your notions elsewhere. Common curtesy among the members of this guild should be a standard. I will not tolerate those that cannot bring up the decency to act as a responsible human being, instead of bashing someone for trying.

Bethelarien debated more then once by herself in the debates, without any support from any of us. For this you should be holding her in regard, not attack the guild for the lack of support.

Beth has my deepest regard for what she did during the debating tournament, I myself wish I could have been there more to support her, which unfortunately my private life and computer issues prevented me to do.

I have withdrawn the guild from the debating tournament, for which you all may thank Aule and his kind words.

Scatha the next time an issue like this happens could you please not act so hasty. I think this should of been handled differently. I am not supporting Aule nor you, I would just like a decision that affects the guild at this magnitude to be handled more carefully. I am just shocked that in a little more than twelve hours the guild is pulled out of the tournament.

*points at the debate thread*

Aulë
11-01-2003, 07:32 AM
Scatha- if you are going to make a decision of this magnitude affecting this Guild, please ask for the opinion of the High Council, and of Swordmaster first. You are no longer the sole Guildmaster of this Guild, so your decision on matters such as these are not the final word.

Scatha
11-01-2003, 11:58 PM
Aule, you are not the guildmaster of this guild either, so stop trying to lecture me, which you have NO right to. You're a deputy guildmaster (for now) and you won't attack the guildmasters, nor the guild again, or I will hold a vote to have you disbarred from this guild. I hope I made myself clear?

Secondly, as you are neither in the scolars team, nor debating for us, kindly refrain from comment in the debate, or I will report it to the moderators, even if the periaur will have to pay for your violation of the tournament rules. You are not the organizer of the tournament anymore, so stop behaving as such.

Swordmaster, exactly the lecturing and bold type of approach, that Aule displayed here and in the debate thread, made me react the way I did. I know I should have talked to you first, which is why the withdrawal from the tournament has been corrected by me.

However, I still highly disagree with Aule's behaviour.

Celebthôl
11-02-2003, 12:01 AM
Aulë, i think you should stop being childish, you are hardly a member of this guild and you are draging the name Periaur into the realms of disrepute, so please leave it out!

P.S. Hehehe, Scatha told you!! :D

Bethelarien
11-02-2003, 12:49 AM
I know that most likely the majority of responsibility for this little fallout rests on my shoulders. Perhaps I was a bit hasty, or maybe I could have reacted differently. Still and all, my decision stands, and I certainly don't take back what I said.

However.

I think everyone needs to calm down. Scatha, I appreciate you standing up for me and standing by me, I really do, but take a few deep breaths before chewing Aule out next time, OK? ;) Although I must admit that I agree with everything you've said.

Let's try to act like adults (or at least mature teenagers), alright? Myself included.

Celebthôl
11-02-2003, 02:05 PM
Errr, can I join?

Scatha
11-02-2003, 03:44 PM
Sure you can join the Guild, Thol.

Please post your request here:

Joining thread (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13497)

I'd be happy to have you here. :)

Scatha
11-02-2003, 03:46 PM
Also, with Aule withdrawing his membership, we have a deputy guildmaster position to fill. SM, do you have a candidate for the post?

(Though this is more overreacting then I did. I hope he'll reconsider.)

The_Swordmaster
11-02-2003, 08:32 PM
No more talkes about Aule and Scatha's arguement please. It should of stopped when GoE was put back into the Tournament. So please let's drop this now.

Aule I am giving you one month to apologize to Scatha and him apologize to you and also request to rejoin the guild. If you do this in the time period mentioned above you will be granted membership and your seat back on the High Council.

Now can we please talk about the rules of the guild.

Eöl
11-05-2003, 02:16 AM
IMPORTANT!!!

I am very sorry to do this, but I am leaving TTF and MERPG indefinitely. School has been very difficult this year, and my outside life consumes what little time I have left from homework. I feel I owe it to the guild to have someone else who can be a better more responsible deputy. Thanks to all the friends out there, and all those who helped with any debate posts I made!

Goodbye, and best wishes to all of you. :(

Eöl

The_Swordmaster
11-05-2003, 09:13 PM
Goodbye Eol. You will be missed here.

Now we need to fill in two Deputy Guildmaster positions. One for WoW, and another for PotL. I suggest Dain and Glorf to fill in the empty positions. Any other nominations?

Scatha
11-05-2003, 09:59 PM
I am very sorry to hear this, Eol. :( I'll miss you.

Who will be taking your place on MERPG?

SM, I agree with the nominations.

Aule, we seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot here, which we never used to have trouble with before. How about giving eachother another chance and let bygones be bygones?

I may have reacted harshly, but neither of us have a clean slate as far as this goes, now do we? I'll watch my text if you watch yours. ;) If I offended you somewhere down the line, I am sorry, but I had rather talked to you about it, then to see you up and leave on us.

Well I made a rough draft for the rules. I hope you guys like it.

The Guild of Eruhíni Rules and Code of Conduct.

1. On New Members.

To become a new member in the Guild of Eruhíni you must first request membership in the Joining thread. Then a Council member has to respond to your request. After that you will go under a two-week trail period. In that trial period you must post at least five times. If you cannot do that because of personal reasons you must tell a council member your excuse via PM.

2. The High Council and the General Council.

The Guild of Eruhíni has two councils in the guild. The first council is the High Council, which is composed of the two Guild Masters and the four Deputy Guild Masters. The High Council responsibilities are chiefly to discuss the management of the guild and to make all of the major decisions in the guild. The General Council is composed of the rest of the guild not in the High Council. This council will serve as a place for the members to voice their questions, comments, concerns, and also to propose ideas and suggestions for the guild. If a decision is large enough the High Council might give the General Council the control of the situation.

3. Concerning New Threads.

Please use your best judgment in making new threads. We do not want a guild filled with countless pointless threads. If you feel the thread you are making could be considered Spam but you think it is valid first PM the respecting Deputy Guild master or one of the Guild masters to see if your thread is allowed to be posted. These rules do not apply to guests in the guild. The rules for guests are listed below.

4. On Guests Posting and Making New Threads.

The rules for guests are similar to the rules for regular members but slightly different. The main difference is that you cannot make new threads without first asking permission to do so. Guests are however to post in any thread the want to besides the High Council thread unless they have permission.

5. Code of Conduct.

First off all TTF rules apply naturally. Second off you will not attack the guild, or any of its members. In violation of this rule, you will either receive a warning or your membership will be held in question. Spam is something that will be taken seriously in the guild especially concerning Legolas. Any thread found to be pointless and just nonsense in other words Spam will be lock on sight and deleted if the creator of the thread doesn’t have a valid reason or purpose for the thread.

This is a complied list of ideas and suggestions and some I made up while writing this. So is there any questions or comments about these rules. Note this is only a rough draft I know some things need some tweaking.

Scatha
11-06-2003, 05:55 PM
I for one can agree with the rules as mentioned above.
Good job, SM. :)

Bethelarien
11-14-2003, 04:56 AM
I also agree. Why don't we (you) make it into an official thread and sticky that and the members list?

Next item of business:

In the Guild of Elves we had discussed doing intra-guild debates. Now, I don't know when they plan to start the next debating tournament, but our guild could certainly use some practice. Also, we need to make sure this next tournament that we snag our members before they're promised to other guilds (i.e., Aule esp., now Thol, etc.)

If we do plan to do intra-guild debates, could we please let me know? I was to be in charge of them before the merge, and would like to get started as soon after the end of the tournament as possible.

Thanks!

Scatha
11-14-2003, 02:26 PM
I agree Beth, getting thol on the team would be wonderful.

Intra-guild debates should be set up as quickly as we can, to get more people interested for the next tournament. :)

I hoped you would serve as our dicussion team Captain for the guild, thus in charge of this. :)

Celebthôl
11-14-2003, 02:32 PM

I've been coming up with a few ideas for this, so just let me know when and where to discuss it with you. There are several different things we could do.

Scatha
11-15-2003, 01:21 AM
Thol, I am delighted to hear that. :)
I hope we'll be giving you your money's worth here.
If you have things to contribute or threads to start, feel free. :)

Beth, throw it at us in the council thread? ;)

Bethelarien
11-15-2003, 08:44 PM
Scatha- :p

Alrighty then. I figured we could use most of the same rules/procedures as in the Tournament. I'm assuming there will be another one, and that the rules will stay the same; therefore, it would be to our benefit to abide by those rules. Yes? Of course. :D

Considering that our guild has little to no participation at the moment, I thought we could do intra-guild debates with smaller teams. Three people would work, or even two. We would rotate the teams, giving people a chance to work with several different members. If (when) we get more active members, we can increase the team size and continue to rotate members through.

My suggestion is to start with two-person teams. We could then have 3 judges (to avoid a tie). If we can't find judges with our guild, I'm sure others would be happy to oblige us.

Topics would be PMed to me for approval EXCEPT in a case where I am one of the debators. I would then suggest SM or Scatha as the topic approver in my place.

Anything I'm missing?

Scatha
11-16-2003, 12:59 AM

11-16-2003, 01:55 AM
Well, I'm still a little confused. I haven't been around much... well, actually, I've never understood this tournament thing. Maybe because I can't take part in it, for I don't have much time. Anyways, it seems there hasn't been much action ?!?! Or am I wrong? Well, if you need anything, just ask me.

Hugs,

My suggestion is to start with two-person teams
is that a subtle way to remove me from the team?
i mean, i know you and scatha would make an awesome debating team...but
*runs of crying*
(ever since a friend did it in year 8 pretending she had been dumped, just to get out of a bloody maths test, i always wanted to try that......)

As for the tournament for the next year, I think the three of us with people like Thol, will make a killer team. ;)

Bethelarien
11-18-2003, 07:14 PM
Well, I have some pretty bad news.

My older sister Heather was in a serious car accident yesterday afternoon. (Some stupid...um...girl....ran a red light and broadsided her right in the driver's side.) She's in the intensive care unit at a nearby hospital. Her spleen ruptured and had to be removed, her pelvis is fractured, one of her lungs collapsed, and her neck is badly broken. Fortunately, her spinal cord wasn't severed, only really badly bruised, so her current paralysis from the neck down is hopefully only temporary.

In other words, I may not be too active for a while. Then again, this may spawn some renewed activity from me. But please, bear with me, and keep my sister and my family in your prayers.

Scatha
11-18-2003, 11:13 PM

11-19-2003, 04:22 PM
No, Scatha, I need something productive to do. And as I'm staying home today to watch my two little nieces, I should have plenty of time! ;)

In all seriousness, I need to keep things as normal as I can. I want to help you. And I will. So don't argue. ;)

I also agree. Why don't we (you) make it into an official thread and sticky that and the members list?

Also does everyone agree that Dain and Glorfindel should be the new Deputy Guildmasters?

Scatha
11-20-2003, 04:46 PM

Well alread the guild is in a state of little particapation. That is not good. Scatha can you PM Glorf if he is still on TTF to accept the postition of Deputy Guild master. I was recently informed that Dain now is too busy with being a mod on MERPG to be a Deputy Guild master. So any suggestions on who could be a Deputy Guildmaster?

Edit: I posted the rules for the guild just now.

Oh, I'm so sorry for posting here. I used to be in the Council, so I was alwas allowed to post on threads like this. But no one told me before I was taken off the Council. Anyway... I would like to announce everybody I am leaving the Guild. I don't hae time for it and I don't seem to be helping on anything or participating on anything. So that's why I'm leaving. Sorry to see you leave, Rasec. Return to us often, if time permits you. :)

SM, this may come as a strange call for a position, but how about either Omni or Celebthol?

I'll try and contact Glorf, to check if he has the time for it.

On a sidenote: I don't know if any of you have seen the news in regards to France? In our area, as well as in the south of France, we had that much rain, that we are now being faced with floods. Wish me luck, in case I suddenly disappear for a bit. :(

The coming weeks, I would like to close off unused topics and archive them. I requested an archive thread to be opened for the GoE.

Two deputy guildmaster spots remain unfilled, which I would like to get done as well.

Can the deputies that are already there aid me in cleaning up our guild?

Bethelarien
12-11-2003, 06:52 PM
Sure. What would you have me do, o wise guildmaster?

Scatha
12-11-2003, 11:16 PM
I proceeded with closing the threads that have not been used for quite a while and will move them to the archive I had opened for the GoE. I started on the Elven guild section.

Now I am aware that you won't be able to move them, Beth, but can you browse the Dwarven section and post on the threads that are no longer used? Maybe post that the thread is closed?

I will close and move those to the archives. :)

*EDIT: I cleaned out both the former GoE and GoD of all closed and unused threads, that served no purpose anymore.*

Scatha
12-12-2003, 12:48 AM
OK, subguilds are cleaned and all closed threads move to the archive I had opened for the GoE.

On the subject of deputies:
With currently a very low activity and absence of both my fellow guildmaster and the deputy-guildmaster of the Delvers of the Deep, I propose we hold off installing new ones until needed. Bethelarien and I are fully capable of handling the guild in it's current state, until both absentees are present again.

On a sidenote:
Swordmaster and Gamil Zirak, can you by chance PM me on how long this Hiatus of you both is going to last?

The_Swordmaster

Great SM, I'll approach them to see if they are interested. :)

Good to see you back. I cleaned the forums a bit. I hope you don't mind?

Omni is interested in the "Walkers of the World."
Thol would like "People of the Lands".

How about you make the announcements of the promotions, SM?

I'm still here.
This Guild has never been the same since the RPGs left...
*remembers the awesome RPGs we had going*
*sigh* :(

Is there a point to the existence of this guild? It has never been terribly active and now any attempt at reviving it looks like beating a dead horse. Would you want it to be archived or do you think there's still chance enough for it to get on its feet?

*sigh* You're right, Aule. The RPGs leaving really crippled us. I think we need to decide, those of us who are left, if this really is worth keeping up and what we're going to do to keep it going.

Although, admittedly, most guilds seem to be rather dead right now.

I think Ithrynluin is right to a certain extent. We need to decide if this is worth working our butts off to get going again.

Ith, I'll inform you of our decision, as soon as we have made up our minds.

Beth, Aule, we need to do some serious talking, my friends.
Seems that we are a three person guild at the moment. Are we going to fight for it, or throw in the towel and concentrate on MERPG?

Are RPGs banned at TTF?
If not, we could salvage what we have and become a little 'RPG hideaway' within TTF. Since we would be the only place for RPGs here, we may attract a few members who haven't bothered making the trek to MERPG....

I agree with Aule- we need RPG's here...just a little hideaway ;). My support is behind this guild too, and I am still here and ready to get involved again. (Indeed I thouroughly loved the experience of debating- how could I not help the guild?).

On another note, we do not need so many positions of power(i.e, my deputy should go)...Additionally, i think the guild also should move as one major section...not so many subsections. These are just small ideas anyways...so ignore them if you dont agree with them

....to explain my absence: lately I have moved out of home and started med science at uni...both things that keep me incredibly busy...hope you understand, but i will attempt to post more...and get this guild up and running again.

I'm still here, just not around as much.

Aren't the RPGs being handled on ME-RPG?

Well, look what the cat drug in.

Still here you say, Gamil? May I remind you that you are the deputy in charge of the dwarven guild and haven't even posted in here for well over a month?

And yes, RPG's are handled at MERPG.

One thing I agree about, is to get rid of the subguilds, they aren't working out.

Aule, i'll check with WM about the RP's.

Easy there, guys. No need to get cantankerous over this. We all know how time-consuming real life commitments can be.

As for including RPs as an integral part of this guild, I'm not sure that's what WM would want. Other guilds may want to follow that example, and then what do we have? Even less participation at MERPG, which was created with the very purpose of hosting role playing games.

IF the admin/mod squad will let us, I think an RP or two would be a wonderful way to re-activate our guild. But that's only IF they agree to it. I hope they do.

If not, we need to come up with some ideas to get interest going again. Otherwise, we may as well throw in the towel. As we are right now, this guild is useless. People don't participate, and even the Council members disappear without a trace or explanation. This is not okay, and we need to get cracking on "renovating" the guild. I really don't want it to disappear, as it seems to be doing.

So let's begin brainstorming ideas to draw people into the guild, and keep them active. So far:

But ithrynluin, as you said, even MERPG activity is dwindling. I always thought it was a bad idea to split the site, and I still think that. If activity there is dwindling so much--which it is--then we may as well re-incorporate the two sites. It would make TTF more active.

And I agree about the subguilds, they're pretty much useless.

And what are we going to do about Swordmaster?

And sorry for the double post, if it is one.

Trust me Beth you will need to do nothing about me. I am right here and I will stay here.

I vote in favour of keeping the subguilds. Because if we lose them our guild would be over. Their would just be a bunch of threads about random races when this place gets up and running again. We need organization.

I also vote for RPGs if we can have them here. And if not we could see if the Elven guild at MERPG would change into a place for RPGs for this guild. Btw who is the guildmaster of the MERPG Elven guild?

Well, let's hope so. Your unexplained extended absence was not appreciated, at least by me. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I still think the subguilds need to go. There just isn't enough interest to keep them going, and it's rather pointless for us to keep them when nothing happens.

RPGs me like.

What the subgulds accomplished so far, is to alienate the little members we already had. They do not know eachother anymore. I still think they should be disposed of.

SM, You may find yourself without any moderation powers at the moment. WM removed them, as you were not present for a pretty long time, without any word.

RPG's, are for MERPG, this is what that board was intended for, as Ith pointed out, this was WM's wish as well.

I tried blowing life back into this guild by posting the lineages threads, in both the dwarven and elven subguilds, but they died rather swiftly. Any ideas from my fellow conspirators?

can i have one thing cleared up (no definate answer has come up yet....)

what are the possibilites for us to have a small rpg?

and if not, are we able to have a guild tavern - there are still some here at TTf :D?

on the matter of subguilds....even if we have to keep them, do we have to have that many? surely two is sufficient.

Yes I did Aule, we can beat our heads over it as much as we like, but with the current situation, the guild has no right to the space it is taking up.

I regret having to do this, but let's face it, as much as we beat the dead horse with a stick, we won't be able to revive it.

I will cherish the good times we shared here and will miss them, but I think the decision is for the better. Many of the old guilds are facing the same issues, of dwindling participation and decreasing amounts of members.
