Some people say that we all (not just we, GOOers ;)) are outcasts to some extent. And as we need more Tolkien related stuff let's try to discuss in which way(s) characters from Tolkien books were outcasts. They all may have been outcasted in some way. :D So pick a character, say in which way she/he was outcasted and whether you would also feel that way if you were him/her. Sounds fun? Let's start then. :D ;) :p

Ok, I'll start with the traditional outcast in whose honour this guild was (probably) made. Poor sweet Gollum was definitely an outcast. No one liked him. He was left alone without friends or family or anyone who would take care of him. :( He was despised by others. :( :( If I were Gollun, I would feel myself extremely lonely and outcasted... :( :(

Ok, you may now add something or disagree with it or discuss it or pick someone else.

In the hobbit, bilbo was outcasted from the other hobbits because of all his "fanciful tales" they all thought he was insane, and I guess they didn't want to catch his insanity(???)

ppl feel that way about me... me and my books...

Hm. I thought that I started this place out with a thread much like this one. oh well. I looked and couldn't find it. Maybe that was my first guild of Outcasts that I was thinking of. Whoops. Let me see here. No, this place was not made because of Gollum. It was made for originality to be spewed around. sorry about that. Anyways, sure, I could go on twenty-seven thousand rants about poor Smeagol, but just recently, I have run into Mim again. Poor guy. Very misunderstood. He was into self-preservation. Why is having a sense of self-preservation thought of as a bad thing?

Eowyn can't necassarily be considered an outcast, but she does have some definite outcast-tendencies: She's isolated, with no one to confide in, etc. So she has been outcasted by her social position and sex, which I think is interesting. Goes to show you can find outcasts anywhere.

Bilbo was outcasted, what with the thing with calling him "Mad Baggins" after he went over the sea. *shakes head* Poor Bilbo. But then again, he handled it the right way. He was groovy with the fact that he was different. He knew he was better than the rest of him, and open-minded enough not to care what they thought of him. Go Bilbo!

Mim. I remember Mim. Poor dude. He's just walking along trying to make a living after his whole race has just been hunted down, and some guy kills his son for absolutley no reason. Then he runs away and stumbles on this huge horde of treasure that no one was doing anything with. Of course he's gonna claim it for his own. Who else will? I gotta say, though, that he was kinda dumb for coveting all that treasure. If it were me, I would've loaded as much as I could carry (which would be enough to make me rich beyond imagining anyway) and haul it off to some place where I could spend it effectively and rebuild a life for myself. But then that one dude, Hurin I think it was, comes along and kills the guy. For sitting on a pile of abandoned gold. What a butt monkey. Mim's life is one big tragedy.

Ah, yes. Eowyn. Eowyn rules. Bottom line. And yeah, she was totally outcasted. She was totally a warrior, through and through, and yet no one would let her do what her heart told her to because she was a woman. I felt so sorry for her when she started getting suicidal. But then she killed the Witchking, man. Girl power!

Gollum. Gollum gollum gollum. Well, I could say a million billion things here...but I think we've already got a few other good characters going. Gollum could sufficiently get his own thread.

Lobelia Sackville Baggins was pretty much outcast for much of the books, but she did get a nice little hero moment at the end thanks to her umbrella wielding moment of passion.

Umbrella yeilding moment of passion! Woo hoo! Ya know, I think I hated Lobellia until that moment, and then I absolutely loved her.

*imagines Lobellia with her umbrella*
*can practically hear the *whack whack whack**

Yes even the Sackville-Bagginses are capable of redemption.
But the ultimate Outcast would have to be Morgoth. Sent to the outer darkness for his bad behaviour. Gotta be worse than being sent to your room.
