Are you implying that you look like a Balrog in the mornings, or are you just as grumpy as one in the early hours?

Gandalf White is not being matched...besides, Rhiannon is too, well, "jumpy." ;)

The beard question is answered in my siggy!

Thol: I apparently got out of that scrape rather easily. Time for me to learn to watch my mouth...not! :p ;)

Perhaps "excitable" would do better. Yes, that's it.

GW is not in the least excitable...

Eliot: What's wrong with it??? It's like your other one, except it's different! :D ;) Is it not enough that the all-powerful match-makers don't like it??? :o

Gee, those Cubs are unhappy people... I don't know what operatic means...what do you bet that word will come up on my SAT's tomorrow?

However, I think it is safe to say that GW is not operatic, either.

Rhiannon
11-01-2003, 04:36 AM
operatic

Of or pertaining to the opera or to operas; characteristic of, or resembling, the opera.

...often used to mean something on a large, dramatic scale. DRAMA! EXCITMENT! EXPLOSIONS! BANG!

And we can now be 100% sure that GW is not operatic, although he does enjoy movies with DRAMA! EXCITMENT! EXPLOSIONS! BANG! ;)

If we don't already have YayGollum matched up, I think he and Rhi would go well together...

Rhiannon
11-01-2003, 04:48 AM
No no no. No offense to Yay, but I think I would probably end up killing him.

Have you got any strong, silent, wise types in stock?

I'm not excitable...excitable is like 'flighty'. I'm just dramatic.

Arebeth

I'm afraid I've done my best.
Now it's up to Eliot to realize that is [new?] avatar is boring everyone. He must get over his "rebel" period, I suppose.
I feel sorry for him.:D

So... nothing against Marlene Dietrich? *starts singing Lilli Marlen (in German)* [It's my favourite song at the moment. But don't worry, usually it doesn't stay long.]

omg, this has to be one of the funniest threads I've ever read! :D And about GW, I live with him, I should know he DOES have a long white beard. OkaY, I have been recently informed that Mr. Swordmaster is in real need of a good partner.

Mr. Swordmaster is an able working rpg'er of 15. So any bidders for this handsome, hardworking youth?
And he is male.

A POSSIBLE match can be Angoreth [Whose avatar I greatly admire] and The_Swordmaster.

Both are fifteen so agewise it isn't the problem.

Ok folks...here are my evil choices for TTF matches....

Wonko/Dain - there are no words to describe how evil this pairing would be.

Rhiannon/Black Captain - why...because I said so!

Nom/Gothmog - I just think this is a good match...that's all

Azog/ LegolasLuver - does this one even need an explaination of how evil it is?

BranMuffin/ Muffinly - it's a muffin thing ;)

baragund/Narya - these two are just damn good rpg'ers and are in the same class when it comes to maturity and talent. A perfect match!

Turin
11-03-2003, 03:22 AM
Heh, talk about evil.

Gandalf White
11-03-2003, 03:30 AM
Oh yes, I like them, all of them! Although I'm prone to think Azog/ LegolasLuver - does this one even need an explaination of how evil it is? would end on a bad note...;)

Why didn't I think of Rhi and BC?

Elbereth
11-03-2003, 03:51 AM
Let's go back in time a bit and reminisce on the Tolkien forum pairings of the past:

korhall/arisen pheonix

talierin/mithrandir

Tar Ancalime/Dengen

Elbereth/ Valar

Kementari/ Ciryaher - oh wait...they are still a couple ...;) :D ;) :p

Beorn/ Chippy (Andraste)

I think that is it... Is there anyone I'm missing?

Gandalf White
11-03-2003, 03:59 AM
How many of these are still "functional?" (Barring the Talierin/mithrandir one, of course) :o

Do we have you matched up? I don't recall seeing Valar around recently...

Elbereth
11-03-2003, 04:05 AM
Well considering that most of these matches (except Cir and Kem) were fictional pairings for rpg purposes....I would say that none are currently still functional...but I thought it would be cool to look back for nostalgia purposes for all those involved.:)

PS...no, Valar is not on TTF any longer...he's been too busy with life to participate...he and I are still friends though. He is greatly missed. :(

HLGStrider
11-03-2003, 06:30 AM
baragund/Narya - these two are just damn good rpg'ers and are in the same class when it comes to maturity and talent. A perfect match!

Uh-hem. . .Nenya is younger than me. . .I remember sending Baragund a pm for his 40th birthday not too long ago. ..hmm. ..

Rhiannon
11-03-2003, 07:55 AM
Rhiannon/Black Captain - why...because I said so!
But- HEY! I can't date my arch-nemisis!

HLGStrider
11-03-2003, 07:59 AM
Why ever not? I'm sure it has been done before!

I'd do it if I had an arch nemesis, which I don't.

Rhiannon
11-03-2003, 08:02 AM
Because. I'd leave microwave door open, he'd leave the seat up, I'd hate his music, he'd get sick of navigating around my books, I'd be jealous of his car, he'd wear dirty socks, and before you know it I'd have to cut his head off and the relationship would come to a very messy end.

Whoooaa, Elbereth!! I would be in DEEP guano with the wife if she knew I was being matched!:D But thanks for the kind thought:) And Elgee's right. I believe I'm old enough to be Narya's Dad.

Here are a couple I submit for consideration:

Maedhros and Nom... if they don't strangle each other first.:)

Inderjit S and Chrysophalax, because they are both so delightfully twisted!

Feanorian and Nenya Evenstar (for real), two of the nicest and most thoughtful people on the forum.

YayGollum and Elgee, both march to the beat of a different drummer.

Celebthôl
11-03-2003, 05:03 PM
But- HEY! I can't date my arch-nemisis! Arch-nemesis in name only. I like it!

In order to review, we have:

MacAddict/Talierin
Snaga/Wonks
Celebthol/Starflower
Eliot/Arebeth
Beorn/Legolam
Aule/Lhunithiel
Dr. Ransom/Elgee
Beleg/Beth
Aragorn21/Sabeen
Michel Delving/Powersauce
Kementari/Ciryaher
BranMuffin/Muffinly
The-Elf-Herself/YayGollum
Rhiannon/BlackCaptain
Gandalf White/Any resident purist lass under 20

(Sorry, I just had to add that last one, it makes me crack up every time I think about it!) :D

Also, it's been mentioned before, but I think it should become official:

Elbereth/Eriol

Did we miss anyone?

You know what they always say. True love always starts with the girl saying

"HE'S THE MOST CONTEMPTABLE MAN I'VE EVER MET!"

Then the next thing you know they fall in love and live happily ever after! ;)

My choice still stands: Rhiannon/BlackCaptain

PS: I don't mind being paired with Eriol....as Elgee so eloquently puts it....he's a doll! Although if you think I would be better with someone else, I'm also open to new options. I'm in no rush to be paired up with anyone anyway.

Rhiannon

Aw, shut up man. ;) As the queen of the brutally honest, I declare that a dishonest and entirely too self-deprecating statement. I banish thee to the silly string dungeons! Mwahaha!

Alrighty, are you guys still set on this match-up between Yay and me, or have you moved on to other people? *looks hopeful* I mean, other than the fact that neither of us is remotely interested in anything romantic, I wonder how you would ever manage to GET us into this fabled closet of yours. Tis not happening, I'm very aware, I don't think you'd be able to pull any of this 'kidnapping in the dark of the night' stuff on me.

We can't have this happening, it will never do... Surely you must be able to pick someone from TTF.

Well, let's see...

Match for Rhi:
Must be chivalrous, intelligent, with good shoulders. Not afraid of dysfunctional females. Wild black hair and grey eyes preferred. Good at reading aloud; deep voice. Must enjoy talking about books. A lot. Sword wielder a must. Machoism not encouraged. Clean hair absolutely necessary. Nice forest lands with waterfall a plus. Must appreciate darkness and cynicism in a woman. Shy and sensitive nature appreciated.

First of all, before I make my choices I want to express my extreme attraction and like to all metrosexual men! Maybe it is just me...but I don't see anything wrong with an attractive guy who is well kept, well dressed, cultured, and sensitive to a women's feelings. And heck yeah a guy should be able to cook and clean as well as a woman! There is nothing wrong with that!

As our most culturally astute members, I would like to elicit from you some clarity of terms.
Help us O Star Queen, you are our only hope.

From what I can gather, the emphasis of Metrosexuality always stated as a male who is comfortable with fashion, culinary excellence and compassionate understanding of a partners want and needs. This is perfectly respectable.

So why is it that the only models presented as Metrosexual effeminate males?

What is the major difference between a Metrosexual and a Gentleman?
For example, I prefer English wool for my suits, can tell the difference between a shaken and stirred martini by sight alone, and prepare a gourmet meal without the use of a cookbook or caterer. But I can also repair an automobile, defend myself and others, and enjoy a beer at a baseball game.

I can claim to have nearly all the same talents of the so called Metrosexual, the only difference is that I am not effeminate. So wherein lies the difference.

As Robert Heinlein once wrote...
A man should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Wait, are you implying that's a good thing?

Well, I don't really know the rules of the game to appreciate baseball fully, but all my friends tend to be die-hard Cubs fans, so that means that I had to explain to them that poor Steve Bartman wasn't completely at fault for catching that ball because there were about 20 more people reaching for it.... Nevermind that. :D

You really think so?? (sarcasm intended)

Oh, you know, they only lost the NL Championship...

*falls on the floor laughing* I second that...
But seriously, I think that Rhi and Yay are a perfect match. She just needs to catch him first.:)

Well, see, I'm not stupid, so I understand that it wasn't poor Steve's fault that they lost. If Moises hadn't started acting like a two-year old when he didn't catch that ball, the fans wouldn't have been ready to kill Steve, and the Cubs players wouldn't have been as nervous. I think if Alex Gonzalez wasn't nervous, he would've caught that ball, and gotten a double-play and the Chicago Cubs would've gone to the World Series for the first time since 1945. But, no....

The Star Queen has heard your pleas and I am more than happy to answer what I can.

Well it is very simple to distiguish a 'Metrosexual' from a 'Gentleman'. A Metrosexual is like a gentleman where they are polite, sensitive males, who are comfortable with fashion and the culinary arts ....However the major difference is that a Metrosexual also enjoys activities that are commonly associated with females...such as manicures, pedicures, facials, shopping for designer clothing. (and I MEAN designer - GUCCI, PRADA, ARMANI, ECT..) (He also has a tendancy to like to shave himself in areas that a normal man would not (...I won't go into details here. ))

I could go on...but I think you go the gist of it there.

The problem I have with the whole metrosexual issue is that it takes everything society supposedly hates in women (The fashion consciousness beyond just looking nice, the primping, the fear of sweat. . .all those things feminism wanted to root out of the female-stereo type, things traditionally seen as female WEAKNESSES) and gives them to men, and this supposedly makes them more attractive somehow. Not really. It suggests the idea of only one person you can truly love, and I believe that if my first husband who I truly love gets hit by a bus there is a possibility that there is another person I can truly love out there so I can have a second husband. . .

It also suggests you can marry the wrong person which suggests that it would be al right to leave that person for a truer person, which is another idea I don't like.

I think there is a possibility of a second person you could truly love...but it would be a different quality of love. Not more or less true, but still different. That's why I think it's important to feel a bond with any person you consider marrying; not just a mutual benefit, though marriage based on that can be happy and even loving. And bonds can develop later. But I would want the bond to be there first.

I disagree. I think it is very possible to love the same way twice. Of course, considering it is a different person, the love will manifest itself differently the second time.

That's why I think it's important to feel a bond with any person you consider marrying; not just a mutual benefit, though marriage based on that can be happy and even loving.

I know love isn't based at all on mutual benefit. I'd go as far as to say love isn't based on a bond, either. If a person doesn't love you in return it doesn't lessen your love for them. Love is based on love. It's a choice you make to feel for someone more than yourself. Bond is something that can fizzle in and out. Sometimes you'll feel it. Sometimes it will be fuzzy and perhaps you'll lose it all together for times. However, love doesn't care about bonds. It just keeps putting the other before the self.

Or maybe if the first one turns out to be a dud, you can push him in front of a bus and try again?

I think you're very wrong. I don't really have a problem with being vulnerable. For instance, I have a bad habit of trusting EVERYONE. I tell my deepest feelings to whoever will listen, and yes, some of those people go around and stab me in the back and use the knowledge I've given them to hurt me. I know this. I know if I'd shut up it wouldn't happen anymore. Doesn't make me shut up. I still trust everybody. I'm not a suspicious person. I'll believe good until the end of the world. Some people possibly can get themselves into that sort of block, but not me. It would have to be very hurt, the sort of hurt that would have me in a mental institution for a short time because I really don't handle emotions well enough to get hurt that well and not flip.

Not a choise, I didnt chose to love some people, but i just did love them (not that i didnt love it ), but you cant turn love on and off like a light switch, its not that simple. . .

No, you can't turn love off. But you can turn it on. Once on, never off (if it is real love). There's like, of course. A lot of times like isn't in our control. We meet a person and like or dislike based on odd things. Eventually we can make ourselves like someone but why would you want to? Then physical attraction. Physical attraction is also something I don't think we can easily control. It's also too based on our personality and preferences. True love isn't based on anything like what sort of person the other person is (whether he's right for you or not). We all know we fall in love with people who are terribly wrong for us. A lot of people say this proves that we arent' choosing it, why would we choose to be hurt. I think it does the opposite. If you think about who we "like" we generally don't choose that. We like people because they're pleasant or fun or have something that attracts us to them. Love will be in spite of the bad.

I do believe the choice can occasionally be subconscious, but it is a choice. If it weren't a choice you couldn't resist it, and you can resist love (very hard thing to resist. . .). What you resist when you resist falling in love is making the choice to love.

I personally didn't resist and made a choice to fall in love once and almost did another time. The first time it may have been a bad choice. The second time might've been a good choice but it wasn't one I was ready to make.

I think the responses to love and loss-of-love and trusting and all that good junk is pretty much individual to each person. Elgee's a trusting person, so she's going to trust more and go out and try again. More cynical or cautious people are going to try to keep themselves safe and distance themselves from the things that will hurt them. Or that's just what I've seen from people that I've come in contact with.

As for love and true love and having true love twice...aiieee, don't look it me. I'm really still looking around for the answers. Love doesn't usually classify itself neatly and spell itself out for you. ;)

Dr. Ransom/Elgee
Beleg/Beth
Aragorn21/Sabeen
Kementari/Ciryaher
BranMuffin/Muffinly

Yes, I agree...you have to specify which American accent you're talking about. ;) Besides southern and New Yorker accents, there's also surfer-dude Californian, Minnesotan (which I can hardly explain without actually speaking ;)), Bostonian, New Jersey...an (?)(:D), and probably more. Unless you just don't like any of them. ;)

BENEDICK
I do much wonder that one man, seeing how much
another man is a fool when he dedicates his
behaviors to love, will, after he hath laughed at
such shallow follies in others, become the argument
of his own scorn by failing in love: and such a man
is Claudio. I have known when there was no music
with him but the drum and the fife; and now had he
rather hear the tabour and the pipe: I have known
when he would have walked ten mile a-foot to see a
good armour; and now will he lie ten nights awake,
carving the fashion of a new doublet. He was wont to
speak plain and to the purpose, like an honest man
and a soldier; and now is he turned orthography; his
words are a very fantastical banquet, just so many
strange dishes. May I be so converted and see with
these eyes? I cannot tell; I think not: I will not
be sworn, but love may transform me to an oyster; but
I'll take my oath on it, till he have made an oyster
of me, he shall never make me such a fool. One woman
is fair, yet I am well; another is wise, yet I am
well; another virtuous, yet I am well; but till all
graces be in one woman, one woman shall not come in
my grace. Rich she shall be, that's certain; wise,
or I'll none; virtuous, or I'll never cheapen her;
fair, or I'll never look on her; mild, or come not
near me; noble, or not I for an angel; of good
discourse, an excellent musician, and her hair shall
be of what colour it please God....

This can be no trick: the
conference was sadly borne. They have the truth of
this from Hero. They seem to pity the lady: it
seems her affections have their full bent. Love me!
why, it must be requited. I hear how I am censured:
they say I will bear myself proudly, if I perceive
the love come from her; they say too that she will
rather die than give any sign of affection. I did
never think to marry: I must not seem proud: happy
are they that hear their detractions and can put
them to mending. They say the lady is fair; 'tis a
truth, I can bear them witness; and virtuous; 'tis
so, I cannot reprove it; and wise, but for loving
me; by my troth, it is no addition to her wit, nor
no great argument of her folly, for I will be
horribly in love with her. I may chance have some
odd quirks and remnants of wit broken on me,
because I have railed so long against marriage: but
doth not the appetite alter? a man loves the meat
in his youth that he cannot endure in his age.
Shall quips and sentences and these paper bullets of
the brain awe a man from the career of his humour?
No, the world must be peopled. When I said I would
die a bachelor, I did not think I should live till I
were married. Here comes Beatrice. By this day!
she's a fair lady: I do spy some marks of love in
her.

Enter BEATRICE
BEATRICE
Against my will I am sent to bid you come in to dinner.

BENEDICK
Fair Beatrice, I thank you for your pains.

BEATRICE
I took no more pains for those thanks than you take
pains to thank me: if it had been painful, I would
not have come.

BENEDICK
You take pleasure then in the message?

BEATRICE
Yea, just so much as you may take upon a knife's
point and choke a daw withal. You have no stomach,
signior: fare you well.

Exit BEATRICE

BENEDICK
Ha! 'Against my will I am sent to bid you come in
to dinner;' there's a double meaning in that 'I took
no more pains for those thanks than you took pains
to thank me.' that's as much as to say, Any pains
that I take for you is as easy as thanks. If I do
not take pity of her, I am a villain; if I do not
love her.

Tall
Longish hair (kinda shoulder length)
Thin
No facial hair
Kind of punk (I like the punk style, but nothing way overboard)
A Musician
Funny
Sensitive
He should be able to sweep me off my feet with his charm, and make my knees weak with his smile.
I should be able to look into his eyes and know deep down inside me that he really cares about me.
He should be able to hold me and just tell me that everything is going to be OK, and when he'd say it, he'd say so it in just a way that I really believe him, and he's not just saying that.
He should never make me do anything I don't want to, and I want to be relaxed enough around him to say no and not have to worry about it when I do.
He would understand about my problems and not just lecture me, and then give up on me. He'd be supportive of me.
He should love me and care about me as much as I would love him.

Yeah, I know. We have an apparent lack of males showing up on this thread...why is that?

Beleg, I hope that was a typo! Or are you really going up to 61? :p

Believe me it is sixty-one...
[Not sixty two because Miz M is 62] ;)

So, all of the males who come to this thread are already paired up? Scary.........I guess WAY too many girls come here. Or maybe the guys take one look at the girls' posts and run away screaming!:D :D

or it might be that there are more girls here than guys and when the guys are taken there are still single girls here that post alot.

don't worry ladies... trust me, there is someone out there for you. hell, even i found someone so i know you can. just keep your eyes and hearts open. who knows he might be right under your nose.

So please, refrain from sneezing! :p

On a poll somewhere we have/had a pretty even number of guys/girls, with slightly more guys the last time I checked. I'm more inclined to agree with Nimawae's second theory...;)

I find it rather amazing that everyones perfect match is Thol. As for pics I am not interested. Ummm one question for thol...do you sing. Cause that would suddenly make you perfect...luckily I am guessing not. No one sings. Sigh. or should I say lullaby

ps as far as accents go. The southern accents are the worst but really no american accent seems that great to me. Now australian. Or European. PS THol. One attnetion is good. 2 attention with no strings attached is better.

Elliot... incase you have forgotten the last time we talked about anything we argued. Not just pleasant disagreement either but rather at your throat type stuff. It was not pleasant. BUT I was right.

And by sing... I mean sing well.

Sorry Eliot. Just go back to your pre-chosen one.

Just out of curiousities sake...Thol how did you meet your Aussie friend...the one so desperate to match you up. YOu may want to reconsidder the original exchange.;)

*the Trojan Rabbit II creaks into the thread and a very non-ominous voice says* "We are here to negotiate the complete and eternal deletion of the YayGollum/The-Elf-Herself pairing-on the grounds that they would kill each other."
