Ok peoples, here is a place that we can discuss the Numenorean's. I don't know what to talk about at the moment but since this is an area for men I thought I'd make a thread for the men of Numenor. We can talk about when they were still in Numenor and the kingdom's they later established in ME, and all that great stuff. Anyway, people can post questions they have here too, and I or perhaps someone wiser can try and answer them.

I heard awhile ago that Numenoreans had flying ships. Is this true? If so does anyone know how they worked?

In fact there were.
And no wonder, as the Numenoreans were under the protection and the guidance of the Elves from Tol Eressea. And those had flying ships.

Silmarillion: And thence at times the Firstborn still would come sailing to Númenor in oarless boats, as white birds flying from the sunset.
Hence, the Numenoreans, who were great mariners, perfected the ship-building craft so highly and always aiming at reaching the achievements of their "teachers" that finally it seems they too had such ships.
I am absolutely sure there is a passage written by Tolkien about these flying Numenorean ships. But I shall have to look for it. ... Or maybe someone may provide it sooner.

But this is a very interesting point!
In fact, a while back there was a thread about this question.

[b]I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU HATE THIS!!! :p ...but ... let me still provide a link. It is interesting to read what you'll find there.

Uhh, yeah I was definitly in a big hurry, Lhun. I went and checked on the flying ship's and I was like, "Doh! they had flying ship's, man I can't belive I forgot, I loved the flying ship idea." *meanwhile my friends are all wondering why I just started yelling all of the sudden.* Anyway, thanks for pointing that out Lhunithiliel.

I have found that passage where I read about those flying Numenorean ships!!!!!!!
Here it is:

From HoMe IX - Drowning of Anadune:
Yet it is said that even of those Numenoreans of
old who had the straight vision there were some who did not comprehend this, and they were busy to contrive ships that should rise above the waters of the world and hold to the imagined seas. But they achieved only ships that would sail in the air of breath. And these ships, flying, came also to the landsof the new world, and to the East of the old world; and they reported that the world was round. Therefore many abandoned the gods and put them out of their legends. But men of Middle- earth looked up with fear and wonder seeing the Numenoreans that descended out of the sky; and they took these mariners of
the air to be gods, and some of the Numenoreans were content that this should be so.

Amazing! Right?

Holy Cow!!! That's incredible, I might have to make a new Rp, on ME-RPG, about the flying ships of the Numenorean's. They really traveled many different ways.
