i'm so curious about the silmarillion....
will anyone giv me a summary or sumthng?:)

Hm, that's kinda impossible... lots of info in there. Basically it's the history of the creation of the world and the First Age. Read it, it's beautiful!

I find the Silmarillon greater, and hold it on a higher pedstal than the other Tolkien books.

It really is luminous, shimmering literature. It is NOT a quick, easy read. It is not a "page turner" of a story (in comparison to LoTR).
It is however, a sublime, beautiful work.
Remember, though, JRRT's son Christopher assembled the various drafts and put it into an edited form for publication, so we don't really know HOW close to JRRT's intent it REALLY is. That might account for what seems to be the (do I dare?) less than smooth transitions from chapter to chapter...
One fan's opinion, FWIW.

I agree for the most part. I'm a big content guy and that book had loads of it.
Side Note: In the Silmarillon where the book mentions the events of the quest of the ring. I think it takes all of a few pages. Really puts things in perspective of how long the History of Middle Earth is.
