I would like to announce the opening of this new thread, which is connected with The Gallery of Characters.
It is about Tolkien's character and the way you imagine them.
I have noticed that we have many talented members who can draw beautiful things and I decided to do something for you.
This will be the place where we can post our drawings of different characters in the way we imagine them.I know that not all of as can draw very good(especially me),so here can be posted also drawings found everywhere.
Thus we will have our own Gallery of Tolkien' characters, which will be part of The Gallery of Characters. This is our chance to make our real Tolkienpedia!!!
The period for every character will be two weeks.I hope this time will be enough for those who want to try themselves drawing.
Good Luck
(I wonder which character deserves to be first?)

We will choose the characters. For example the first two weeks will be about Feanor, the second two weeks will be about Manw....etc.
So let's choose a character.I believe that the first one should be an emblematic one for Tolkien's world.

... And who else that could be than Feanor, of course!!! Would the Silmarils ever exist without him?! :p
Now, i am not much of an artist, but I like "playing" with things I find on the net. So... when we pick up a character, I'll think of sth.
A thought - wouldn't it be the right thing to do - to start with those characters who already exist in the Gallery fo Characters?

Hehehe ... :D
All right! Then we can really start with those characters that have been already presented in the gallery.

Sounds fair...
There's no "jeweller" out there (yes!!! *jumping with joy*) :p ;) :D
But there seems to be one teeny tiny problem... attachments don't work:(, so how do we proceed?

Ok,the first biography was of Tar-Aldarion.We can start with him.
Lhun I hope that you will be the first to find something about Aldarion,or you can draw something :)

2 weeks per character is short for an artist, even if the skill of the person is quite high.
I'll give you an example, to elaborate what I am talking about. Below is a work in progress, the city of Edoras, which so far has had me dabbling for about 5 weeks in total.... and it is long from finished.
The second pic is another story. If you want a character to have expression on it's face, detail and such, 4 weeks of work amount up to this, but as of yet there still is no background. (nor color)
I believe there is no need to remind you that these are downsized images?

Look at the name of the file, GG. ;)
Btw, I looked at the limit we have for attachments on the board, which is 1Mb.
So with 200 Kb maximum per post, that leaves us 5 to 10 (if we really decrease the quality) images we can make, after that we need to start deleting stuff again.

I always wanted to draw Luthien in the likeness of Edith Bratt. This (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/scribblezone/images/7-picture2.gif?) is my first draft, done in ballpoint pen (cos I'm lazy and it was handy). I would like to finish it properly in oils, perhaps with Beren looking on, but don't hold your breath waiting for it. :o

I drew this (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/scribblezone/images/7-picture1.gif?) at the weekend.
It is told hat even as Varda ended her labours, and they were long, when first Menelmacar strode up the sky and the blue fire of Helluin flickered in the mists above the borders of the world, in that hour the children of the Earth awoke, the Firstborn of Iluvatar. By the starlit mere of Cuivienen, Water of Awakening, they rose from the sleep of Iluvatar; and while they dwelt yet silent by Cuivienen their eyes beheld first of all things the stars of heaven. Therefore they have ever loved the starlight, and have revered Varda Elentari above all the Valar.Silmarillion 'Of the Coming of the Elves'

Eledhwen, your last picture is really great. And so I would say about the other pictures. It is so pity that I can't draw... It really looks like the moment in which they awake near Cuivienen. :)

I am much better at drawing from my imagination than from real life.

I love this! :D Do the pics have to be completely original or, like some of mine, can they be inspired by other pics? (I have a 'art of' book from the move that I like to work from at times.) I LOVE to draw! Not proud about the quality, but I still love to try! Perhaps you would let me post some of my things here? :o  :)
~*~*~*~
And I would have posted them here but for the files being too big! I'll try to fix it and get back to ya! :D

ACE, you could try changing your picture format. If they're BMP (Bitmap), changing them to GIF will make the block colours a bit grainy on closeups but I don't think it spoils the picture for onscreen viewing.

Alright, I have now had some time and help with these things! So, without further delay, here is a bit of my artwork! (I wish I could say that I normally do better but I really don't mind. It's good practice and I do enjoy working on it.)
Arwen is from a tinny little pic I found in one of my many books.
Sam and Frodo came from the same book (I think) and this is the first time I've ever tried doing two faces on one page.
Like 'um or not, there they are! If you want to see some of my 'not quite so Tolkien' stuff, just go to my web page and look around from there! Yes! MINE! Ara has her own site!!! :D *cough* er... well, Thanks to evil Elgee. ;) :D

You underestimate yourself, Ara, they're not Michaelangelo but they're not bad either, and I know you've got some better but non-Tolkien on your website, though it's prob'ly changed a lot since I was last there. While I would love to contribute to this, I haven't drawn anything Tolkien-related and would be petrified to do so, and more so to post it here. So, I just came by to compliment EVERYONE on the great work.
My fav's have to be Gimli and the Awakening, but they're all good...that doesn't really even exclude many, does it? I wish this thread was more active! Garn!
Oh well.
