Hi Guys,

I received this message from Aule yesterday:

As you may know, the 2003 Debating Tournament is all wrapped up. As it turned out to be quite a success, I have been trying to think of a new inter-Guild activity. Since you all seem to be sick of debating, I'll give that a rest for a little while (although Gil-Galad and Eriol seem to have that all under control).

My proposal: an inter-Guild quiz competition.
I am thinking of hosting the competition over either MSN or IRC. IRC would be better, since I'd be able to get a quizzing program setup to ask the questions, but not many people have IRC on their computer, so that may be difficult. I have spoken to Webmaster about it though, and he is now looking into a java web-based IRC client: which would enable TTF members to access IRC without having to download the IRC program.
The quiz would be in real-time, so the competitors would have to be online during the quiz (the #1 problem so far, as timezones are going to prove a nuisance).

Would your Guild be interested in participating in this?
Once I get an answer from all 6 Guilds, I shall start a discussion thread for the competition, and notify all the Guildmasters of it's presence.

Anybody interested? I can't do it because my online time is too limited but it sounds like fun. :)

hmm, I think that would be interesting, but more me it depends on the time and computer requirements. . .

I'd be interested too, but along with Elfarmari, I too might be bound down by time differences and prior commitments.

It sounds quite exciting, but time and timezones are the obstacles. Perhaps it can be limited to 30 minute sessions, scattered throughout timezones?

Here's the discussion thread for it: http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?t=14987

Though I am not a member to this Guild as of yet, I am very interested as well as willing. Though, like most here, the confinements of time may be a problem, which is why I gladly utter the phrase 'Down with work'.

Welcome back Goldberry! Nice to see you back here. :)

Hmm, Aule has asked us to tell us our times of Avalability in GMT hours to decide the schedule for the tournament.

maybe we all can post our timings of avalabity to get a general Idea.

As for me, the ideal time for me would be,

GMT: 4 A.M - 8 A.M. and G.M.T 5 P.M - 7 P.M

Welcome Isthir! Hope you'll have a cracking time here.

Whoo-Hoo! We have a bye this week so we have a little time to get our team together. :) Next week we start against the Periaur.

Beleg, Goldberry and Isthir - Are you still interested in participating? The good part is Aule expects the quizes to last about 30 minutes each.

I can do it but my online time is REALLY limited. I am looking at 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM EST (that's 5:00-6:00 PM GMT)

I am still willing, of course. As well, we do not begin until next week?

Hello Scholars,

When is the best time for you to quiz against the Periaur?
It has to be sometime between now and the end of Saturday. I trust that you already know your preferred times...:)
The Periaur would prefer it to be some time between 0900GMT and 1800GMT.

Anytime soon please....
You have 2 days to organize and participate in the quiz, or you shall forfeit the round.

I'm out :(

I had been hoping to use my lunch hour at work (1700 GMT) but my office has recently imposed a draconian Internet use policy that will most likely get me fired if I spend more than a few minutes a day online for anything not work related.

Sorry...
