Found you by chance whilst surfing through the Elfwood website; a member there provided the web address to this forum. So I decided to stop by. As for myself, I had Tolkien revealed to me one fair summer long ago. I had an intense crush on the prettiest girl in the neighborhood, and arranged to spend every waking moment with her. It so happened that she sprained her ankle quite badly one day, and had to spend a week or so off her feet. Thus we passed this time by reading, and the only thing that looked interesting on her father's book shelf was a old copy of The Fellowship of the Ring. My life was forever changed.

MOre than 20 years have passed since. Its funny now, I cannot conjure that girl's face no matter how I try. Her name is a distant memory that I have to concentrate to recall. Yet I remember being spellbound by the adventures of 4 Hobbits, an Elf, a Ranger, a Dwarf, a Son of Gondor, and a remarkable Grey Wizard (not to mention a pony named Bill!) as if I had rode along with them and seen it all first hand.

Thanks to all that have paved the way before me here at the forum. Thanks to your vision and dedication, there is a place for someone like me to come and share his thoughts and rememberances.

It's remarkable how the really good books stay with us :) Welcome.

Welcome Rowan. Indeed, LotR is a timeless classic that stays with you for the rest of your life. I look forward to viewing your insights and thoughts on all the works. I do wonder, though, if you have ventured to the other books besides LotR, if not I would strongly suggest it.

I've read LotR many times, and the Hobbit thrice. Unfortunately, my copy of the Silmarillion was lent out and not returned after only one reading. I suspect I shall have to invest in another copy.

Something about the Sil does that
I had the same thing happen and I had to get another one, I only lend books my sister now - I know I will get those back.
