C. S. Lewis is often quoted, "Not another f******g elf!" when reading LotR
Does anyone know which elf this refers to, or even if he actually said it?

For a guy who wrote books like Mere Christianity and other famous Christian books, I'm not shure he'd say that. But, if he did, I'd say Legolas (I don't know why:D)

It's also attributed to Hugo Dyson.

I must say, I have thought the same myself. Perhaps I said it
The correct quote is : "By God, not another bloody elf!"

The second quote I can see Lewis saying...hummmm if he'd seen the movies it would have been refering to Arwen!! lol God I hated her in the movies.

Do we have any evidence of this?

Which LOTR book was being read though I imagine? I mean there's elves in all three LOTR books.

The correct quote is : "By God, not another bloody elf!"I've seen this before, and I think I read it in a book, but I can no longer find the correct citation. Who wrote it down first? It doesn't seem to be in Letters of JRR Tolkien, and I can't find it Humphrey Carter's biography of Tolkien.
Can anyone provide the correct citation? Or is this just an attribution to Lewis? Or Hugo Dyson?

Did you, perchance, follow the link to A.N. Wilson's article, I gave in my previous post? ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2001/11/24/bfanw24.xml )
I have not read Wilson's biography of Lewis, but from the article I gather, Wilson was the one who brought it up in his C.S. Lewis: A Biography, and Wilson attributes it to Hugo Dyson.
Carpenter, btw. writes:
He (Tolkien) was soon reading the new chapters aloud to the Inklings, and was receiving the usual mixed reactions of great enthusiasm from some and considerable reservations from others, the latter including Hugo Dyson, who had never cared for the story ...
H. Carpenter The Inklings, HarperCollins ed. p. 195; my emphasis
