So we've got the Spider-childhood incident reflected in Shelob and Ungoilant...

Today while doing a book report I've stumbled upon another one. Tell me if you concur, or if this has been discovered a LONG time ago...

Tolkien's father died when he was very young, and his diabetecal mother took him to England. When her death was somewhat inescapable, she entrusted the Tolkien boys to a priest. From there, Tolkien fell in love with his daughter (and she with him), and the relationship was frowned upon by Fr.Francis Morgan (the caretaker). Tolkien eventualy married Edith, and they lived a WONDERFUL life together bearing one child. (It was just Christopher, right? I could be wrong on this...)

Aragorn's father Arathorn died when Aragorn was yet young, and his sick mother took him to Lothlorien where she died. Upon leaving for Rivendell with Elrond, the entrusted caretaker, he fell in love with his daughter Arwen. This relationship was frowned upon by Elrond. They eventualy married and lived a wonderful life bearking one child.

Now some of that information might be wrong, but we've fundamentaly got:
-Father died in Tolkien's/Aragorn's youth
-Mother found hospitality for T/A before dying
-T/A fell in love with caretaker's daughter
-T/A bore one child after a frowned upon relationship

Agree? Disagree? I'm sure there's something wrong with my mythology or biographical referrences here, but the basic paralel is present in my opinion....

well you did get it a bit wrong, in that John and Edith had more than just one child: John Francis Reuel, Michael Hilary Reuel, Christopher Reuel and Priscilla Anne Reuel.
Professor himself compared their love more to Luthien and Beren than A & A.. it is written in their gravestones as well.. but certainly art imitates life in this, his own experiences influenced the stories he wrote.

You really need to rethink this statement. I know what you meant, but this says that Tolkien fell in love with his daughter. You should say rather that Tolkien fell in love with his benefactor's daughter.

Ahh yes... Tolkein fell in love with Fr.Morgan's daughter. Where's this moved to?

Um. . .It wasn't Father Morgan's daughter. If he was a Catholic priest in good standing he probably wouldn't have a daughter (such things happen, but I doubt it had happened in this case). She was the daughter of another person. . .a friend of the family, I believe, and an Anglican, which is why she converted to Catholicism after she married JRR.

They had Eldarion, and some unnamed daughters, so there would have been at least three children.
