Here is a fine article (Los Angeles Times, March 24th, 2004) about one man's journey to Middle-earth to study Elvish by way of Marquette University, where many of JRR's original manuscripts are bestowed.

YOU WILL HAVE TO REGISTER in order to read the story (alas, just about all the online newspapers require this now), but you can use a psuedonym and a web-based email address (What? You don't have one?). These days I get too nervous about copyright laws and multi-post articles because of size to reproduce the actual article in TTF. But anyway, I think you'll find the piece well worth the trouble! Here's a teaser:

"It used to be we got academic researchers and the occasional visitor wearing a cloak and Hobbit feet," said Matt Blessing, head archivist for Marquette's special collections. "Since the movies came out, the phone's been ringing constantly. Everyone wants to see where it all began."

(Yet another instance of the movies attracting people to The Real Thing!:D)

Enjoy!
