Finduilas.
And how did she die?
Eliot
10-18-2002, 04:18 AM
I've looked all over to find that out but pretty much all that I've found is that the shadow in the east filled her with horror. Does it even say anywhere?
Not even the encycopedia of arda gives an answer:eek:
Niniel

Yes, I believe there's something about it in the Appendices to LOTR. But I don't remember what exactly.

Eliot
10-18-2002, 09:53 PM
I don't know. I'm geuss I'll do the next question.
What is the status of all the rings created during the second age.
Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
Anamatar IV
10-18-2002, 10:13 PM
the 3 rings were hidden
the 7 were either consumed by dragons or in saurons possession
the 9 i *think* we worn by the nazgul or maybe sauron had them
the One was with Frodo, bilbo, sam, gollum, deagol, a time with bombadil (only about 2 minutes :D ), some time with gandalf, and the next owner was a firey chasm with hot stuff at the bottom. Next question someone else can post.
gate7ole
10-19-2002, 01:37 AM
For my question, the answer was that Finduilas was grieved to death because she perceived the change of her husband, Denethor, who secretly tried the palantiri and it proved disastrous for his health and wisdom.
How did the last king of the Northern Kingdom perish?
Eliot
10-22-2002, 07:18 PM

Or do you mean Ciryandil who died during the siege of Umbar?
Eliot

What is the lore of Living Creatures? (just the free peoples though)
Eliot
10-27-2002, 10:30 PM
Sorry. I didn't explain, but the answer that I was looking for was "Eryn Lasgalen" the wood of greenleaves. That's all right, I'll count that as a right answer.
gate7ole
10-29-2002, 11:26 PM
Here is the lore of Living Creatures:

Eagle in eyrie, ox in pasture, Hart horn-crowned; hawk is swiftest Swan the whitest, serpent coldest.

Well, fine. This is going to make it so easy. Just name the three Istari named in LOTR.
Niniel
11-05-2002, 07:11 PM
Mithrandir (Gandalf), Curunír (Saruman) and Radagast. And Alatar and Pallando of course.

The River Running is called in elvish Celduin.
Under whose kingship did Gondor's realm captured Haradwaith and under whose it captured the East Lands north of Mordor?
Anamatar IV
11-05-2002, 11:37 PM
Grond isnt participating for the same reason that many of us arent. First--He has probably read LotR about 30 times and spins off answers off the top of his head, 2nd---He has the works on his computer so i dont think its be fair.

This is what you said gate7ole:
"Under whose kingship did Gondor's realm captured Haradwaith and under whose it captured the East Lands north of Mordor?"
In that question, do you mean 2 kings or one. I might be wrong, but I'm going to guess: Narmacil I (Romendacil).
If so, what year and age was Minas Ithil and a palantir taken by the Nazgul?
gate7ole
11-06-2002, 01:53 AM
No, I want 2 kings. The first captured the East-Lands and the second Haradwaith.
And neither of them is Romendacil. He had a victory over the easterlings, but he didn't conquer their lands.
Eliot
11-06-2002, 06:14 AM
I hope I get this right...
Ciryaher (Hyermendacil) conquered the Haradwaith.
Turambar conquered the Easterlings.
gate7ole
11-06-2002, 12:53 PM
Yes this is right!
Eliot
11-06-2002, 11:10 PM
YAY! I got it right! Here's one of my questions that didn't get answered cuz' I had to answer your's.
What year and age was Minas Ithil and a palantir taken by the Nazgul?
gate7ole
11-07-2002, 01:30 AM
Minas Ithil was captured in 2002. Probably the Nazgul laid hand on the palantir at the same year.
Then:
What was the capital of Gondor during its first years of reign?
(it may or may not be tricky:D )
Maeglin
11-07-2002, 01:51 AM
Osgiliath
now: Who seized Osgiliath and took the throne after burning The Tower of the Dome of Osgiliath?
also may or may not be tricky
gate7ole
11-07-2002, 02:20 AM
I think I found your tricky point. It is not the Nazgul you're after.
It is Castamir who seized Osgiliath during the kin-strife.
Correct? If yes then,
Which events probably triggered the contruction of the beacons of Gondor?
(by the way Glorfindel1187, this was a most intelligent question. I hope you have more of this)
Maeglin
11-08-2002, 09:38 PM
It is long since the beacons of the north were lit, and in the ancient days of Gondor they were not needed, for they had the Seven Stones.
I'm not sure what kind of an answer you're looking for, it could be because of all the attacks from Mordor, but I am going with the quote I posted, probably because they lost most of their palantiri.
What did Gandalf tell Pippin he was(or what his role was) in the War of the Ring? (hint:think board games)
gate7ole
11-14-2002, 12:52 AM
Well, nobody has answered your question Glorfindel. I too can’t think of a possible answer. It must have something to do with Pippin’s use of the palantir, but I’m not sure. A wild guess: he was a pawn.
Glorfindel, just give us the answer. I don’t think we’ll find it.
Maeglin
11-14-2002, 01:28 AM
You got it, he was a Pawn!
A pawn did Gandalf say? Perhaps, but on the wrong chessboard.
lol Next time I'll think of an easier one.

How does Frodo hurt the Nazgul when they attack him at Weathertop?
Eliot
11-14-2002, 04:34 PM
Um... I think he stabbed a Nazgul in the stomach. I'm really not sure...
Maeglin
11-14-2002, 09:11 PM
He stabbed the Nazgul in the foot.
What kind of Runes were used on Balin's tomb? Or maybe it should be Who's runes were used, i'm not sure.
Anamatar IV
11-14-2002, 09:35 PM
actually glorfindel that is not entirely correct:
At the same time he struck at the feet...
'Look,' he cried; and stopping he lifted from the ground a black cloak that had lain there hidden by the darkness. A foot above the lower hem there was a slash. 'This was the stroke of Frodo's sword. The only hurt it did to his enemy, I fear, for it is unharmed. More deadly to him was the name of Elbereth.
So really the hurt was the name Elbereth but carry on.
gate7ole
11-15-2002, 12:08 AM
If you’re seeking the person inventing the runes, the answer is Rumil.
So, my question is which people developed Rumil’s runes
Maeglin
11-15-2002, 12:40 AM
Rumil?
"These are Daeron's Runes, such as were used of old in Moria," said Gandalf. "Here is written in the tongues of Men and Dwarves: Balin Son of Funduin
Lord of Moria."
But whatever it was a badly worded question, so I'll give you credit, carry on.
gate7ole
11-15-2002, 05:21 PM
Well, the Runes were originally invented by Rumil and then developed by Daeron. So, one can either use Rumil or Daeron for such a question.
Eliot
11-15-2002, 06:16 PM
I guess I'll do the next question.
What island is on the Brandywine River?
Maeglin
11-15-2002, 08:54 PM
Gate7ole's question must first be answered before you can ask.
Eliot
11-15-2002, 09:03 PM

gate7ole
11-16-2002, 02:23 AM

So, about Eliot's new question:

Who does Gandalf refer to when saying that even dragons couldn't destroy the Ring.
Eliot
11-16-2002, 10:43 PM
I can't figure out where. Does he say it at the Council of Elrond?
Niniel
11-16-2002, 11:31 PM
I would say Smaug, because there were no other dragons left when the Ring was made. But I'm not sure, nor do I know when Gandalf said this.
(So why am I posting this anyway, then?)
gate7ole
11-17-2002, 01:10 AM
I guess the answer you want is Ancalagon. If I'm correct, then I think that this name was used by Gandalf as an example that not even such a powerful dragon could melt the Ring. Thus, Gandalf wasn't talking ony about this specific dragon, but about all dragons old and young.
Eliot
11-17-2002, 02:05 AM
Since you answered the question gate7ole, you can ask next.

3 out of four are correct. The Caves of Aglarond are not correct, because Gimli set there his realm and not the rightful descendant of Durin's folk.
You're missing one last capital.

Khazad-dûm (from the beginning until III 1981)
Erebor (until 2190)
Grey Mountains (until 2589)
Erebor (until 2790)
Blue Mountains(until 2941)

Finduilas
What foster name did Elrond give to Aragorn? also easy:D
Manwë Súlimo
11-19-2002, 08:50 PM
I don't know of a name that Elrond gave to him but I know of Estel 'hope' that his mother gave to him, Elessar 'elfstone' that Galadriel gave to him, and Thorongil 'the Eagle of the Star' that he gave himself in Rohan. If any of these are it then:

Use a map of Eriador. That should help. No, Amon Sul was part of the Weather Hills, I think. Annuminas is in northwestern Eriador, and the Tower Hills are out west by the Ered Luin.

#2 The palantiri of Annuminas and Amon Sul are lost in 1975
#3 The palantir of Minas Ithil taken in 2002
#4 Saruman uses the palantir of Orthanc, Denethor II uses the palantir of Minas Tirith
#5 The palantir of Elostirion in the Tower Hills was taken back to Aman on the ring-bearers' ship
