After the Siege of Barad-Dur after Sauron was overthrown among the elves who stood by the fallen Gil-galad?

EDIT: Same time posting gate7ole;) I thought eliot was tired of asking all the questions.

Celebthôl
12-04-2002, 11:20 PM
errr i believe it was
Elrond

Elendil
Cídan

gate7ole
12-04-2002, 11:22 PM
A guess: Elrond?

Anamatar IV
12-04-2002, 11:56 PM
celeb youre close. Of the ELVES whos stood by.

Dáin Ironfoot I
12-05-2002, 12:04 AM
OK, just Elrond and Cirdan then

Anamatar IV
12-05-2002, 12:22 AM
correct. Elendil was dead when Sauron fell so he couldnt have been by gil-galad celeb. And Isildur was said to be the last man standing by Elendil.

The two gates were Morannon and Isenmouthe.

Éomond
12-05-2002, 01:18 AM
Ok, here's one: What was the name of Eomer's sword?

Froggum
12-05-2002, 03:38 AM
Guthwine. I hope I spelled that right.

Ok, next question:gimme Gandalf's other four names.
As in, what the elves call him, what the dwarves call him, what he was called in his youth, and what he is called in the south.

Mablung
12-05-2002, 04:12 AM
Incánus, Mithrandir, Olórin, Tharkûn

Eliot
12-05-2002, 04:20 AM
What was the name of the old fortress just west of the Valley of Udun?

Mablung
12-05-2002, 04:26 AM
Minas Morgul wasn't it?

Eliot
12-05-2002, 06:00 AM
No, that's a bit more to the south. I'm not going to give this away. Somebody has to answer. :)

Éomond
12-05-2002, 07:05 AM
I'm thinking Isenmouthe:confused: or Barad-dur

Mablung
12-05-2002, 07:23 AM
Yeah I think Isenmouthe is right.

What is the ring Nenya made from and what is it's stone?

Celebthôl
12-05-2002, 10:24 AM
its made of Mithrill and the stone is...im not sure i gotta look it up

Nóm
12-05-2002, 10:39 AM
Mithril and adamant.

What had 'the scent of honey made of many flowers'?

Ithrynluin
12-05-2002, 12:31 PM
I think the answer to Eliot's question might have been "Durthang."

To answer Nóm's question - is it Miruvor, the vial of Imladris?

I'll just wait for confirmation.

Nóm
12-05-2002, 12:39 PM
ithrynluin, incorrect

(I will delete this post once someone answers correctly)

Ithrynluin
12-05-2002, 01:06 PM
Okay got it ------> it's the drink that Gildor's company left to Frodo&co.

Where do the Mordor orcs get there food from (mostly)?

Eliot
12-05-2002, 05:39 PM
Yes, ithrynluin got my question right. The answer is Durthang.

Oh, I think the answer about where the Orcs get there food is: near the Sea of Nurnen.

Ithrynluin
12-06-2002, 12:11 AM
Yes the land around that inland sea was radically different from the plateau of Gorgoroth; the soil was fertile and many slaves laboured there.

Go ahead and post a new one.

Eliot
12-06-2002, 12:15 AM
On the way to Bree, Sam, Frodo, and Pippin met Elves WHERE?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 12:23 AM
Woody End I think.

Who was Elrond's advisor at the Council of Elrond?

Eliot
12-06-2002, 01:01 AM
Erestor.

What Elves were at the council of Elrond?

Anamatar IV
12-06-2002, 01:07 AM
is that a fair question? We are in Imladris. A haven for ELVES. We are in a council where the head is an ELF. There were many unmentioned elves at the council.

Eliot
12-06-2002, 01:10 AM
Sorry, let me reword that. Name the Elves that are mentioned in the book that were at the council of Elrond.

Mablung
12-06-2002, 01:12 AM
Glorfindel, Legolas, Elrond, Erestor, and Galdor.

What were the 3 mountains of Moria?

Anamatar IV
12-06-2002, 01:17 AM
You forgot legolas;)

Mablung
12-06-2002, 01:21 AM
Wow... that was a really dumb mistake sorry about that.

Ithrynluin
12-06-2002, 01:51 AM
The 3 mountains of Moria are Caradhras, Celebdil and Fanuidhol.

What is another name for Barad-dur?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 01:54 AM
Lugburz

Another name for Oliphaunts?

Ithrynluin
12-06-2002, 02:08 AM
Elephants? j/k :p The answer is Mumakil.

What was the great wall of Minas Tirith called?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 02:10 AM
Rammas Echor

Anamatar IV
12-06-2002, 02:11 AM
the pelannor.

what was the horses name that Legolas rode in TTT?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 02:14 AM
Arod

5 Other names for the Nazgul.

Eliot
12-06-2002, 03:06 AM
Ringwraiths, Black Riders, um... The Nine? I don't really know.

Ithrynluin
12-06-2002, 03:37 AM
Ringwraiths, the Black Riders, Ulairi, The Nine, the winged shadows.

Who is named "The Eagle of the Star" ?

Manwë Súlimo
12-06-2002, 03:58 AM
Thorongil AKA Aragorn. He used that name when he fought with Gondor and Rohan in his youth.

What is the name of the leader of the men from the Ringló Dale?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 05:18 AM
Dervorin (that one took me awhile.)

Name ALL of the Ring Bearers/ people who have worn the ring.

Ithrynluin
12-06-2002, 05:45 AM
The One ring only? Sauron, Isildur, Deagol, Smeagol/Gollum, Bilbo, Frodo, Sam. I think I got them all.

From whom did the princes of Dol Amroth supposedly inherit elvish blood?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 06:02 AM
Missed one I asked the question because I was gambling you guys would miss at least one. But since it isn't hard at this point that last was Tom Bombadil who wore the ring briefly in his house.

The answer to your Q is the lady Mithrellas.

Who are the Masters of the Hall?

Manwë Súlimo
12-06-2002, 10:05 AM
The head of the house of Brandybuck.

What is Gaffer Gamgee's name in Westron?

Mablung
12-06-2002, 02:50 PM
Stay at Home is my guess though I don't think it's right.

Mablung
12-07-2002, 05:18 AM
Who were the 3 leaders of the men from Blackroot Vale?

Manwë Súlimo
12-07-2002, 11:38 AM
No you were not right. So if I am not mistaken my question still stands.

Manwë Súlimo
12-08-2002, 10:40 AM
Ok I think you may need some hints, it is two words, the first starts with an R and the second starts with a G. And yes the first word does MEAN "Stay-At-Home" but I want the actual name not the meaning.

Niniel
12-08-2002, 01:02 PM
Ranugad or something (I'm not sure)? Well, I don't know the answer to Mablung's question so that still stands.

gate7ole
12-08-2002, 03:16 PM
Finally!
Ranugad Galbasi.

Where do the dwarves write there own names (the dwarvish and not the Westron/Sindarin equivalents)?

Eliot
12-11-2002, 06:35 AM
I'm stumped. What exactly do you mean by that question?

Dáin Ironfoot I
12-16-2002, 03:00 AM
They dont. Dwarves dont even write their names on their own tombstones.

Ol'gaffer
12-16-2002, 11:01 AM
is there a question now?
I don't see one that hasn't been answered.
So here's one:

What is the last home Peregrin Took lives in before his death?

Niniel
12-16-2002, 11:26 AM
He went to Minas Tirith with Merry.

Elendur
12-16-2002, 02:29 PM
How many times did Frodo put on the one ring?

Lantarion
12-16-2002, 04:51 PM
Wow, good question! Let's see..
1. I think the first time was at Tom B's place
2. Then in Bree..
3. Then again on Amon Sûl, when F gets stabbed..
4. Then he leaves it alone for a long while, and only puts it on when he's atop Amon Hen.
5. After that he loses it, so he doesn't even have it until Sam gives it to him.. So I believe the last time is when he goes mad at last at the Sammath Naur.
Am I correct?

Welcome to the forums, Ol' Gaffer! ;)

Glomund
12-17-2002, 12:18 AM
I can,t believe I read thru all these posts to find there is no question open:( I guess I will restart this. What was the name of the Ent that was burned in Isengard.

Elendur
12-17-2002, 12:47 AM
"Several of the ents got scorched and blistered. One of them, Beechbone, I think he was called, a very tall and handsome ent, got caught in a spray of some liquid fire and burned like a torch : a horible sight."

What became of the lost seeing stones of Numenor the Palantir?

#5 The palantir of Elostirion in the Tower Hills was taken back to Aman on the ring-bearers' ship

That was a previous question, so I just had to find my previous answer.

Manwë Súlimo
12-17-2002, 02:52 AM
Ok now that you answered post a question. Everyone seems to be forgeting that part. So please once you answer one ask another.

Anamatar IV
12-17-2002, 03:10 AM
How many of Sauron's many names are mentioned in Lord of the Rings?

Oh I am an evil one arent I?;) But it's possible to find it in a matter of minutes...

Manwë Súlimo
12-17-2002, 03:36 AM
ok lets see, there's Black One, Dark Lord, Dark Power, Lord of Barad-Dûr, Lord of the Rings, Nameless, Necromancer, and Sauron (of course). I think that is about it. There are other names for him but none that I can find in LotR.

since I don't know if that is all I will refrain from posting till I get conformation.

Manwë Súlimo
12-17-2002, 03:37 AM
oh and The Enemy I forgot that one.

Eliot
12-17-2002, 06:35 AM
Isn't "Lugburz" a name of Sauron? Or is that a name for Barad-Dur?

Eliot
12-17-2002, 06:36 AM
Since I was supposed to post my question, I guess I'll go ahead.

Who provided the birds for Saruman?

Éomond
12-17-2002, 07:07 AM
Radagast

I think:)

Mablung
12-17-2002, 08:17 AM
Do you mean the person or the ally? Because the birds themselves came from Dunland.

Anamatar IV
12-17-2002, 01:23 PM
Lugburz was the name for Barad-dur so, Eliot, yo are incorrect and Manwe has the question.

Eliot

I mean a person. As Eomond said, it's Radagast.

Éomond
12-17-2002, 06:14 PM
so do I ask a question or does Manwe?

Manwë Súlimo
12-17-2002, 09:23 PM
What town in the Shire can only be reached by going down a single road from Longbottom?

Eliot
12-18-2002, 12:29 AM
Sarn Ford?

Manwë Súlimo
12-18-2002, 01:02 AM
Nope, the Sarn Ford is not even in the Shire.

Eliot
12-18-2002, 02:21 AM
Oh, yeah. :D

Eliot
12-18-2002, 02:42 AM
I think it's Pincup. Is that right?

7doubles
12-18-2002, 02:57 AM
i think its Great Smiels..:o

Manwë Súlimo
12-18-2002, 03:39 AM
Yes the answer is Pincup. So the question is to Eliot.

Eliot
12-19-2002, 01:32 AM
What was the name of the son of Beregond?

Mablung
12-19-2002, 02:15 AM
Bergil

Eliot
12-19-2002, 04:17 PM
Yup, now it's your turn to post. :)

Mablung
12-19-2002, 09:17 PM
Which Orc and his band we're going to support Ugluk against the Rohan men.

Eliot
12-19-2002, 09:19 PM
I think it was Grishnakh. Is that right?

Mablung
12-20-2002, 03:20 AM
Nope it was another Uruk Hai.

Niniel
12-20-2002, 08:56 AM
Mauhúr?

What was the name of Gríma's father?

Elendur
12-20-2002, 10:06 AM

Elendur
12-20-2002, 10:12 AM
Name the following peoples weapons names:

Aragorn:

Eliot
12-20-2002, 05:57 PM
Galmod

What is the name of the land just east of Mordor?

Éomond
12-20-2002, 06:02 PM
Oh ****, I'm at school and I don't have my map, but, I rhink its

Rhun or Khand

Celebthôl
12-20-2002, 06:02 PM
Khand

Eliot
12-20-2002, 06:04 PM
Aragorn: Anduril
Gil-Galad: Aeglos
Elendil: Narsil
Theoden: Herugrim
Gandalf: Glamdring
Frodo: Sting

Eliot
12-20-2002, 06:06 PM
Yeah, it's Khand. Rhun is east of Mordor, but it's not directly east.

Éomond
12-20-2002, 06:13 PM
But you said "just east" not directly. Rhun and Khand are both "just east" of Mordor. So my question right?

Celebthôl
12-20-2002, 06:21 PM
yeah go nutz i aint gonna ask a question anyway, i never do!!!

Fine, You have it right.

Éomond
12-21-2002, 12:47 AM
Yeay! Ok:

Who was the only other Rider of Éomer's company to speak to the Three Hunters?

Anamatar IV
12-21-2002, 12:58 AM
aside from Eomer, Eothain.

How many people are refered to as 'the tall' in Lord of the rings, and who were they?

Éomond
12-21-2002, 01:11 AM
Correct!

All I's can think of is Boromir. So there you go, a free one somebody:D

Anamatar IV
12-21-2002, 01:21 AM
there are more than Boromir.;)

EverEve
12-21-2002, 02:29 AM
Wasn't Turin...or Hurin...callled the 'Tall'?

Anamatar IV
12-21-2002, 02:31 AM
hmm...Hurin yes...but I cant count it (since there was a not-tal Hurin in the sil;)) until you give me the rest of his name...and still there are more;)

Glomund
12-22-2002, 08:10 PM
Elendil is another, and Galadriel is called man-high or tall but that is in unfinished tales. These are the only ones I can add without a page by page re-reading

Glomund
12-22-2002, 08:19 PM
I finally picked up on your hint Anamator, Hurin the Tall, Warden of the keys. he was one of the lords of gondor, and while looking him up it says Eowyn "looked tall" as she talked to the head healer, page 292rotk, but that prob doesn't count.

Anamatar IV
12-28-2002, 04:13 AM
What were the *SPECIFIC* (meaning names) races fighting against Gondor at the battle of the Pelannor?

Manwë Súlimo
12-28-2002, 04:24 AM
Hmm lets see, there is Nazgûl, Haradrim, Easterlings, Orcs, Mûmakil, Variags of Khand, men out of Far Harad (what ever you would call them), Corsairs of Umbar, and uh... were the Olog-Hai there yet or were they only at the gate? That is all I can think of.

Anamatar IV
12-28-2002, 10:24 PM
were there really Corsair of Umbar? The rest is correct but werent the corsair already defeated?

Maeglin
12-28-2002, 10:29 PM
Well I think they had been defeated but there were definitely some left still. I remember they fight at the Battle of Pelennor fields, I think it was Theoden that killed their captain, and I also think that it was the corsairs that Faramir and his men ambushed at Osgiliath.

Niniel
01-05-2003, 11:57 AM
If that was correct, I'll put up a new question:
Who was Targon?

Great Khan
01-05-2003, 12:46 PM
Targon was a guard of the tower bit of Minas Tirith i think......

Niniel
01-05-2003, 07:53 PM
Yeah, that's right! You may ask a new question....

BlackCaptain
01-05-2003, 07:55 PM
Im sure this was asked before, but:
without lookin, how old was Aragorn when he dies...

Ceorl
01-05-2003, 08:08 PM
420?
didn't look I promise

if so then, in what year did Frodo go into the West?

Anamatar IV
01-05-2003, 08:11 PM
Not 420 I can tell you that;)

It is just about impossible to figure out without looking. No one has a photographic memory on this forum:eek:;)

Celebthôl
01-05-2003, 08:18 PM
isnt it like 192 or sumthing, i also didnt look, i no he was 7o sumink at the beggining of the 4th age and he did 120 years into the fourth age ergo hes 190 summink so i guess 192!

BlackCaptain
01-05-2003, 08:32 PM
190! good guess though...

Allright... mmmm... :
1. What weapon did Fingolfin use against Melkor in their duel?
2. What weapon did Melkor use?
3. What part of Melkor was cut off?
4. And how many wounds (besides the lost limb) did Melkor come away with?

Anamatar IV
01-05-2003, 08:41 PM
All of these questions are in the sil-this is lotr trivia.

And also the answer is absolutely not 190-Aragorn was born on 2931 of the 3rd age and died 120 of the 4th.

We take the 3021 years of the 3rd age and subtract the 2931 years without aragorn and add the 120 years he lived in the 4th age:

210:)

Which Elf asked Bilbo for an encore in Rivendell and what was he asked to do an encore of?

Celebthôl
01-05-2003, 08:42 PM
1) he used his sword Ringil
2) he used Grond the hammer/mace weapon
3) nothing, though he does get hewed in the foot (it never says his foot fell off)
4) and 7 other times!
:p

um his song and Glofindell :p both wrong i think but i cant member properly and i cant be bothered to go through the books right now!

BlackCaptain
01-05-2003, 09:00 PM
In response to Anamatar:

In the Appendixes of LOTR, Appendix A, III, very last sentance:

Aragorn indeed lived to be one hundred and ninety years old, longer than any of his line since King Arvegil; but in Aragorn Ellessar the dignity of the kings of old was renewed

Although im sure ur calculation is well thought out, it is incorrect.
And sorry about the Silmarillion trivia, it just seemed good at time

Anamatar IV
01-05-2003, 09:07 PM
*is confused* that does not add up to 190 *runs through calculations again*

Yes there is no way he was 190. Yet there it is in plain text that he was. Could someone shed some light on this?

BlackCaptain
01-05-2003, 09:13 PM
And for anyone that thinks otherwise, I am talking about the right Aragorn. There were 2 Aragorns, and this is the second, and right one...

Beren to Luthien,
Aragorn to Arwen and
Húrin to Morwen or Tuor to Idril.

i think

Eliot
01-05-2003, 10:35 PM
Yup, that's right. You get next question. :)

Celebthôl
01-05-2003, 10:38 PM
well someone else can have it i cant think of one!

Anamatar IV
01-05-2003, 10:44 PM
What level of Minas Tirith did Pippin find Beregond's son and what was Beregond's son's name?

Eliot
01-05-2003, 10:57 PM
Pippin found Bergil on the lowest (or first) level of the city.

Who was the father of Imrahil of Dol Amroth?

Manwë Súlimo
01-05-2003, 11:03 PM
Imrahil's father is Adrahil.

Who is Gilraen's grandfather?

BlackCaptain
01-05-2003, 11:21 PM
Arador? that might be arathorns grandfather though...

Manwë Súlimo
01-05-2003, 11:25 PM
No, Arador is Arathorn's FATHER, Arathorn's grandfather is Argonui. But anywho... continue with the guessing

BlackCaptain
01-06-2003, 12:37 AM
Ive thought and thought, and even searched... I can find it no were. At the encyclopedia of Arda website, it doesnt even have Gilraens father, Dirhael listed, and I for one, am clueless as to the answer

Manwë Súlimo
01-06-2003, 04:09 AM
I'll give you some hints. One, it is on her mothers side, and two, it starts with a G

BlackCaptain
01-06-2003, 10:06 PM
Githraen?

BlackCaptain
01-06-2003, 10:09 PM
Githrahel?

Manwë Súlimo
01-06-2003, 10:11 PM
Uh, no. You are not even close.

lossenandunewen
01-06-2003, 10:13 PM

wow. but it does give me an odd respect for you guys :)

BlackCaptain
01-06-2003, 10:14 PM
I have no idea... what book is it from?

Niniel
01-06-2003, 10:40 PM

BlackCaptain
01-06-2003, 10:59 PM

Ok the answer is Gilbarad. I'll give you an easier one:

What type of wood were the staffs of Frodo and Sam made of when they started up the Morgul Pass?

Anamatar IV
01-07-2003, 04:00 AM
Manwe, could you tell me *where* in Lord of the Rings you found that because I ran a search on Gilbarad and it didn't turn up in any of the three books.

Glomund
01-07-2003, 04:17 AM
they were made of lebethron.

This might be harder, While gollum was with them, how many times did Frodo and Sam both accidentally sleep at the same time?

Manwë Súlimo
01-07-2003, 04:37 AM
I'll say three times.

Glomund
01-08-2003, 04:15 AM
I will give it to you, I was not sure if I should count when they fell asleep at Henneth Annun as a 4th, Gollum had not left them, he just wasn't there.

What is the Mordor lanquage name for "Ring"

Anamatar IV
01-12-2003, 01:39 AM
Nazg

How many times is the rings ACTUALLY WORN in LotR?

Maeglin
01-12-2003, 01:45 AM
Oh wow this is hard, so I'm gonna put them up here and tell me if I miss one, but here goes:

1. Bilbo puts it on at his party.
2. Frodo puts it on in Bombadil's house.
3. Frodo has his "accident" at The Prancing Pony.
4. Weathertop
5. Frodo puts it on to escape Boromir at Amon Hen and cross the Anduin until Sam jumps in the water like a fool.
6. Sam puts it on just outside of Mordor.
7. Frodo puts it on in the cracks of Doom.

I don't remember if Gollum actually put it on before falling in or not. But hey Anamatar thats another thing to add in your thread "The Significance of 7" in The Hall of Fire (if I got it right that is).

Anamatar IV
01-12-2003, 01:48 AM
youre missing a few more.:)

Goldberry
01-12-2003, 02:16 AM
I think Sam puts it on twice outside of Mordor, once to escape the Orcs seeing him at the end of TTT, and then once again at the beginning of RotK (though it never says when he took it off).

Tom Bombadil puts it on (and does not disappear).

Isildur puts it on when his party is attacked by Orcs, on his way north from Gondor.

Pippin mentions seeing Bilbo put it on once to escape been seen by the Sackville-Bagginses.

Then, when describing Gollum's life when he was Smeagol, it mentions him using it many times to be invisible.

Anamatar IV
01-12-2003, 02:26 AM
correct! Your question, Goldberry.:)

FoolOfATook

This should have something to do with LotR, right? Okay, here we go...

Manwë Súlimo
01-12-2003, 09:53 PM

Mablung
01-12-2003, 10:08 PM

What's unusual about Glorfindel's riding of Asfaloth?

Goldberry
01-15-2003, 12:00 AM
Asfaloth obeys Glorfindels command to ride fast, even though Frodo is seated on his back. Is it that Asfaloth understands Elvish?

Or is it that hundreds of years earlier, when Glorfindel challenged the Witch King of Angmar (as stated in the appendices), he is riding a white horse who is not afraid of the Witch King? Could this be the same white horse? Do you think he is as immortal as the elves?

FoolOfATook

"You shall ride my horse. I will shorten the stirrups up to the saddle-skirts, and you must sit as tight as you can. But you need not fear: my horse will not let any rider fall that I command him to bear...."
Glorfindel to Frodo as he was hasting out of the Trollshaws.

Well, I think the names were Narchost & Charcost (something like that). I get the meanings mixed up though.

Carchost is fang fort
Narchost is fire fort, the best I can figure.

Wasn't it Fire Tooth?

Manwë Súlimo

I guess I should check the answers to my questions to make sure they are answered right:o .

how many orcs were still alive in the tower of Cirith Ungol when Sam entered? And for bonus points, what were there names?

greypilgrim

2, I think.
Was it shagrat? Don't know other one

Shagrat is one of them, but two is incorrect

Anamatar IV

there was the witch king, and one other one i think, came to the fight after he's killed.

dont know if asked b4, but: How many sons did Elendil have?

BlackCaptain

greypilgrim
01-19-2003, 07:34 PM
"I liked white better" :D

Glomund
01-19-2003, 07:38 PM
Snaga was one, and I thought it meant slave, but there were more.
and I think all the Nazgul were flying around during parts of the battle.
Elendil had 2 sons Isuldur and Anarion.
I repeat my question, how many orcs were alive in cirith ungol when Sam entered. And the names if you want
we have
Shagrat
Snaga(a label not really a name)

Anamatar IV
01-19-2003, 07:41 PM
The witch king and Khamul were there, yes, but is that all?

EDIT:

Sorry, Glomun you ARE correct in my question. The other Orc was Gorbag but I misunderstood your question because gorbag was killed in the tower...though he was alive when Sam entered the tower.

My question:

Which realm did Elendil found?

Glomund
01-19-2003, 07:53 PM
Elendil founded Arnor,
There is still 1 more Orc in the tower, I will give one more chance at his name.

Niniel
01-19-2003, 08:41 PM
Gorbag?

Anamatar IV
01-19-2003, 08:50 PM
I said Gorbag;)

Might it be the one who was whipping Frodo? I do not remember if that was Snaga or not...nor if it was even given a name.

Glomund
01-19-2003, 11:46 PM
The last one is Radbug. Sam hears his screech as Shagrat is throttling him, and thinks it might be Frodo, but never sees him

Beleg
01-20-2003, 12:27 PM
So any other question? Radbug? who is he? I dont think i have ever read that name?

BlackCaptain
01-20-2003, 04:22 PM
He was an orc from the tower of Cirith Ungol. Him and Shagrat were having conflicts er somthin and Shagrat.... hurt him....

Glomund
01-20-2003, 05:41 PM
I can ask another hard one (I think)
how many swords were named in the books

Anamatar IV
01-20-2003, 05:59 PM
To answer this I must ask two questions:

do spears count?

And are Narsil and Anduril counted as 1?

Glomund
01-20-2003, 06:08 PM
I guess spears can count, and Narsil and Anduril were just 1, but since you have them both already, make em seperate.

Anamatar IV
01-20-2003, 06:23 PM
Sting
Glamdring
Anduril
Narsil
Aeglos
Guthwine
Then there was theoden's sword

so 7?

Glomund
01-20-2003, 06:28 PM
You are missing 1,
and the name of Theodens sword was Herugrim, if you wanted to know.

Anamatar IV
01-20-2003, 07:40 PM
well hmm ho let us see here.

Barrow blade? no because that is not a name...I do believe Orcrist was named somewhere in Fellowship of the Ring.

Glomund
01-20-2003, 09:32 PM
Orcrist is the answer, it is mentioned when in the description of Gandalf as the fellowship leaves Rivendell

BlackCaptain
01-20-2003, 09:56 PM
I was gonna say that too...

But you, Glomund, are misisng one from the list. It mentions in the Fellowship the Barrow Blades, as Anamantar said. They don't have specific names, but theyre mentioned...

greypilgrim
01-20-2003, 09:59 PM
who did they chase from the gate when the 4 hobbits came home?

BlackCaptain
01-20-2003, 11:07 PM
Hob Hayward...

if not him maybey Ted Sandyman, but im goin with Hob...

lossenandunewen
01-21-2003, 01:08 AM
didn't they chase away bill ferny?

Glomund
01-21-2003, 03:01 AM
I guess I should have been more specific, I wanted their names, because we could add Borimirs sword, Denethors etc.. they are mentioned but not named.

Lossen did not ask a question so I will again

How many of the Nazgul's horses were found after the ford of Bruenin rose up and swept them away?

greypilgrim
01-21-2003, 04:37 AM
didn't the elves find 4 horses, and a black cloak or something?
4 or 5 horses (is that legal?)

Beleg
01-21-2003, 11:06 AM
I think the answer is 4. It is mentioned In Ut somewhere, but its getting out of my mind right now.

BlackCaptain
01-21-2003, 01:23 PM
Im pretty sure they found all 9 horses

Glomund
01-21-2003, 11:18 PM
They found three horses in the ford, 5 washed onto the rocks downstream and a torn cloak.

I will ask a easier one
