Feanorian

On what date were the companions attacked on Weathertop?
Eliot
03-27-2003, 12:08 AM
October 6th, T.A. 3018. I'll post my question soon.
Eliot
03-27-2003, 12:10 AM
What was the date of Aragorn II Elessar's death?
Manwë Súlimo
03-27-2003, 01:37 AM
He died in 120 of the fourth age, but I don't know if it says what day.
olorin the maia
03-27-2003, 02:45 AM
March 1st, year 120 FA is when Aragorn (King Elessar) received the Gift of Men from Iluvatar.

03-28-2003, 05:29 AM
whoops, not paying attention again.....here's an easy one......
According to Hobbit legal custom, how many signatures were required on a will and last testament?
Anamatar IV
03-29-2003, 07:06 PM
That's a thinker....I'll have to reread the preface "Concerning Hobbits" of Lord of the Rings before I get back to you...I'll edit this post so just watch to see if I don't have it right.;)
Niniel
03-29-2003, 09:27 PM
Seven signatures.
What are the names of the three oldest Ents, who are still alive during the War of the Ring?
Idril
03-29-2003, 09:33 PM
Fangorn, Fladrif and Finglas I think.
Niniel
03-29-2003, 09:51 PM
That's right, you're up.
BlackCaptain
03-29-2003, 09:51 PM
You would be correct... Why would you only think when you have the book right in front of you?;)
Idril
03-29-2003, 10:07 PM
Are you spying on me? (glancing nervously about) Actually the books are holding up a laptop off the floor - underfloor heating you see.
Right then - What is the name of the Hobbit museum & where was it?
Elendil3119
03-29-2003, 11:16 PM
It was named Michel Delving and was located in...uh...the Eastfarthing? I'm not sure. :)
BlackCaptain
03-30-2003, 12:54 AM
Michel Delving, in the West Farthing...
BlackCaptain
03-30-2003, 12:56 AM
What do the Tengwar runes in the front of the book say?
gilgalad
03-30-2003, 01:16 AM
In front of which book?
Hmmm, I see no Tengwar runes in the front of my LOTR books....
Idril
03-30-2003, 10:32 AM
Hey guys - you got the answer wrong!
What is the name of the Hobbit museum & where was it?
Mathom-house - the hobbit 'museum' in Michel Delving (chief town of the Shire in the White Downs, Westfarthing).
Well.................:D
Lasgalen
03-30-2003, 08:48 PM
Now what happens? Does Idril post another question?
-Lasgalen
Idril
03-30-2003, 09:11 PM
I'll let MorgulKing's question stand - just wanted to point the error out:p
Granted, I haven't got any Tengwar runes in front of my copy of LotRs:confused:
Idril
03-30-2003, 09:30 PM
Right, I'll have a got at this anyway - I have Angerthas on my front cover, not tengwar - but it's on the title page, so here goes
of Westmarch by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien herein is set forth the history of the war of the ring and the return of the king as seen by the Hobbits:confused:
edit: I've been reading on the web, some books have the ring inscription on the cover - inlight of this: "Ash nazg durbatulűk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulűk / agh burzum-ishi krimpatul."
or
One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
BlackCaptain
03-31-2003, 03:21 AM
Hmm... On all of the Lord of the Rings books I've read there are Tengwar runes on the cover page. There's also Angerthas on 'em. I guess it was a bad question. But 'Westermarch. By John Ronald Reul Tolkien...' Yada yada was the correct answer.
Idril's up
Idril
03-31-2003, 09:34 AM
I believe my translation is a direct translation - letter for letter - not re-written to it makes sense in English - but I could be wrong - I got it of a site which specialises in Tolkien language.
Anyway - Who was Harry Goatleaf?
Flame of Udűn
03-31-2003, 10:41 AM
The gatekeeper of Bree?
Idril
03-31-2003, 11:09 AM
Yep. You're correct:)
Did you edit your post? I could have sworn you asked about 'herein' in the translation? Must be going mad:confused:
Anyway, if you did, here is where I found it - hope the link workshttp://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/4948/tengwar/exlotrt.htm

BlackCaptain
03-31-2003, 09:45 PM
Well of course... I just thought that ... Oh ur right. :p
Question:
What were the two last names of Arwen.
Feanorian
03-31-2003, 09:53 PM

BlackCaptain
03-31-2003, 10:08 PM

Eliot
04-05-2003, 11:41 PM
Aragorn?

04-05-2003, 11:52 PM
Boromir because he was killed and was Denthor's son?
Elendil3119
04-06-2003, 12:02 AM
Eliot got the name right, but didn't give a reason. The reason is :Do as I bid! It is scarcely wise when bringing the news of the death of his heir to a mighty lord to speak over much of the coming of one who will, if he comes, claim the kingship.
I'll give it to you anyways. :) You're up, Eliot.

Oh sure it does. The Woses once thought the men of Gondor ate ________.
olorin the maia

What enemy was the 'only hope' of Gandalf? (Extra credit for where they were.)
Iluisa Olórin
04-14-2003, 08:15 AM
Gandalf explains that his "only hope" to find the surface again was to pursue his enemy, the Balrog, "clutching at his heel." They were in Khazad-dűm.

Gandalf related this story, after getting it first-hand from Gollum.

Tom Bombadil when the Hobbits were being trapped by Old Man Willow?

04-16-2003, 07:20 AM
Lasgalen has the answer I was looking for.
Frodo was in the Wight's Barrow, enchantment had taken all his friends, and out of the darkness of his mind, remembered the tune, sang it, and Tom heard!
A tough question , but a good answer.

15 men?
Eliot
04-16-2003, 10:11 PM
Yes Krash, 15 men. But, Eomer also lost some horses.
I will answer correctly. 15 men, and 12 horses.
When the Rohirrim refused to sell horses to Sauron, Orcs started stealing them. What was the only color of horse they wanted?

Eliot
04-16-2003, 11:37 PM
Was it those bug thingeys in the Midgewater Marshes?
Iluisa Olórin
04-16-2003, 11:52 PM
Neekerbreekers... being a name, coined by Sam, for the creatures that inhabited the reeds of the Midgewater Marshes that squeaked 'neek-breek, breek-neek' all night. They were presumed to be, by the Hobbits, 'evil relatives of crickets.'
Eliot
04-17-2003, 01:31 AM
Yeah, I'd say you got that right, Iluisa O. :D
Iluisa Olórin
04-17-2003, 02:47 AM
What was the First Deep?
BlackCaptain
04-17-2003, 02:56 AM
dude! I love neekerbreekers! That was like, the easiest question in the world for me! Yay!
Anywhoo...
The first deep i'd have to say is.... ummmm.... The Deeping Coomb.
Iluisa Olórin
04-17-2003, 03:12 AM
:D Nope, not the Deeping Comb...
olorin the maia

04-21-2003, 06:17 PM
Hello Olorin!
hm...
My guess would also be ravens, but I'm a little to slow to have answered before Aule...:D
Manwë Súlimo
04-30-2003, 11:45 PM
Hmm, this seems to have died. Been 9 days since the last post. I move for a new question.
Eliot
05-01-2003, 12:29 AM
Go ahead Manwë. I don't care. I would've forgotten about this thread, if not for your posting. :D
P.S. I just figured out how to put that symbol above the "E" in your name. :D
William Amos
05-01-2003, 06:05 AM
Gandalf made reference
Paraphrasing
"Mithril was only found in Moria" They also found gold their (something I forgot what) and Iron their servant"
FoolOfATook
05-01-2003, 08:05 AM
William Amos is correct- the exact quote is
'For mithril,' answered Gandalf. 'The wealth of Moria was not in gold and jewels, the toys of the Dwarves; nor in iron, their servant.'
For those who worry about quotes. ;)
Anárion
05-03-2003, 01:56 AM
I thought this was a trivia...as in, we ask a question.
Open up a quoting thread if you want to quote. I know a few things about LoTR, which is why I challenge myself to the LoTR Triva. However, I dont have the whole book memorized! The only quotes I know are cool lines from the movie ("You carry the fate of us all little one") and lines that stuck in my head from the book. (None come to mind, told you I dont have the book memorized)
Ummm, yes we know that....
FoolOfATook was just referencing where he got his answer from.
William Amos- You're up. :)
William Amos
05-06-2003, 05:17 AM
Hmm Ok will think of something.
who said
"Chase Away the darkness with Bright Steel"
Flame of Udűn
05-06-2003, 08:21 AM
This is a trivia game, not a quotes game. You're just confirming Anárion's objection.
Idril
05-06-2003, 11:01 AM
William Amos, you need to post a trivia question, not a quote - we have a "quotable Quotes" game as well, but this isn't it:) Try again.
Eriol
05-06-2003, 02:27 PM
And anyway, that was said by Ghân-buri-ghân. Great guy! I think I'll invite him for my party at Rhiannon's bored thread...
William Amos
05-06-2003, 03:49 PM
Ok will try again.
Name the 5 major settlements of the Elves in Middle Earth after the 1st Age. (one was destroyed)
For added Bonus name 5 Dwarf settlements after the First age.
Eliot
05-06-2003, 04:11 PM
Elf settlements: Lindon, Imladris, Lórien, Ost-in-Edhil, and Greenwood the Great.
Dwarf settlements: Ered Luin, Khazad-dűm, Erebor, Iron Hills, and Aglarond.
OK, my question: Which Dwarf settlement colonized Aglarond?
Inderjit S
05-06-2003, 04:18 PM
'Aglarond' The Glittering Caves, was settled in by the Dwarves of Erebor.
What was the original name of Tol-Brandir?
William Amos
05-06-2003, 04:23 PM
I know Gimili led Dwarves from Durins folk into the dunno if the were from Erebor or Iron Hills.
BTW was one other settlement of Dwarves though not as permenant. Was the one in Dunland set up after the fall of Moria.
Well Men call it The Tindrock.
Knowing you, you've probably pulled this Q out of HoME, but in this thread, only questions which can be answered with a standard copy of Lord of the Rings can be asked.:)
William Amos
05-06-2003, 06:08 PM
my mstake misread the answer thought last post was addressed to me.
Inderjit S
05-07-2003, 12:34 PM
Sorry It was a HoME question, I will ask a new one:
Which character from LoTR shares the same name as a great Noldorin loremaster of Tirion?
Eliot
05-07-2003, 04:06 PM
Celeborn. I think...
What land in Middle-earth was formerly the gardens of the Entwives?
Please tell me if my answer was right. If wrong, I'll delete it.
Inderjit S
05-07-2003, 04:59 PM
Your answer is wrong.
Inder...are you sure that the answer can be found in LOTR??
THis looks like another HoME question....;)
The Lambengolmor weren't mentioned in LOTR.
Rumil
Answered just to spite Aule :D... hehehe... he's bugging me on MSN about it :D ;)
Someone else can ask the next question.
Hmm, I doubt that a person who had only read Lord Of The Rings could have been able to answer that question.
So I say: Invalid! :p
Here's a valid question: What is the Tincotéma?
Ithrynluin
05-07-2003, 06:48 PM
Good god, Aule...did you really expect anyone to answer this without looking it up?
Luckily I knew where to look for this at least.
Tincotéma is 'the dental or t-series' of letters in the Feanorian alphabet.
What was Merry's lesser known, unusual name?
Inderjit S

Poor GW... he tried much harder than me. How many words were there exactly BTW? And where did you find this tantalizing piece of information?
I don't think I can come up with something that will take you this long, but here goes:
How many enquier go into 3 yén (I don't think yén is plural, but you get my meaning).

Poor GW... he tried much harder than me. How many words were there exactly BTW? And where did you find this tantalizing piece of information?
There were 477,015 words in my version (in which I didn't include certain bits: only the main text).
I got this information by counting the words in the books. (Took a very LONG time ;) )
And is the answer 8766?

This tantalizing piece of information is not difficult to get acess too if only you have the right means... Everyone read this so we don't have to go through it again! It (I believe) is an E-book! Opens on Microsoft Word, which can count all the words in the document. (Or something like that.)
