Profiles?

How do we put our profiles?

Will there be various threads? One for elves... one for hobbits... that sort of thing? Or do they all get crammed into a single thread? Or do they get organized by which RPG the characters are in?

I guess a moderator will start the thread(s), but I'm just curious since the RPG thing has been open for a couple days now and we have no word on what is to come, and interested in hearing the wonderful ideas that the modertors must be full of. :)

What about map threads? Should we wait for moderators to open them so that they can be set up in a sturctured way? :) Or should us members just start filling up this Mathom house at random? (I sort of doubt the latter... hehe! :p)

Actually during the time when TTF was hosting all the RPG's there was a specific thread for character profiles that were to be used throughout the site (in In Character threads) and there were some that were specifically for a particular RPG. The profiles for the RPG's were mostly written in the Out of Character threads for the RPG's.

This thread is meant for the first purpose I think, a character that one member should be playing while on the board and not on any specific RPG that would require them to portray a character other than the one they've already primarily chosen.

As an example, in this thread I may post the profile for my character Narya Brandybuck - owner of the Weeping Willow Pub. As well as my daughter Nenya Brandybuck (portrayed by me also) and my husband Vilya Brandbuck (you guessed it, played by me as well). These characters I can play in RPG's that are related to the entirety of the board - as you can see in the Green Dragon Inn, I portray that character (and would soon be portraying the others soon ;) ) .

But Narya pretty much hit the nail on the head. Previously we did have a main profile thread wherein people would post their characters - the only problem with that system being that after ten pages or so things would get a little confusing. Personally I always thought it better to place profiles in the Out of Character thread of the RP the character belonged too - access was always a little easier that way.

Of course seperate profile threads have their benefits too! People can lodge potential RP characters there in readiness for any adventures that happen to spring up. Actually I quite like the idea of seperate profile threads for different races, it might solve the problem of an overflowing profile thread, as well as being a lot of fun to do.

I wouldn't be averse to doing it that way if people liked the idea.

On the races idea... I think it is the best way to go. For exactly the reason you mentioned. Who wants to dig through a 10 page profile thread? That and organization by race makes the most sense to me.

But regardless of how the threads are organized, I think most anything beats a single thread.

I was kind of hoping one of you nice mods might start the threads in this forum here, you know just to set the foundation for this Mathom house. :)

Sounds ok to me, we can at least try the race thing and see how it goes. As for maps, I think just individual threads for every rp that needs a map will be fine.
