It is wonderful to have you back. May your recovery be complete and your health bountiful! As they say in the Orthodox Church, may God grant you many years! :) :p :D I'll second that (as if God needed a seconder!) - Welcome back to full health and the forum, Gil-Galad.

On the Easter thing; We get to do both Western and Orthodox; my husband's parents are Greek Orthodox and live in London, so this week we celebrate at Swindon Family Church, and next week we celebrate at Agios someone or other (there are so many in London). I love the Orthodox Saturday midnight service - very moving (if you can get through the door!). Happy Easter everyone - whichever one you celebrate, and Happy Holiday to those who don't - God loves you anyway!

It might be Agios Sophia (Holy Wisdom) which was the name of the great cathedral in Constantinople that his now a mosque.

My husband is Greek, but we belong to the OCA (Orthodox Church in America) which is mostly Slavic/Russian in background but has loads of converts such as myself.

Anyway, the return of G-G eases my mind in this holiest of seasons and I intend to offer up a prayer of thanksgiving for his obviously full recovery!

God bless!

I didn't know that the Orthodox world has Easter a week later than Catholics and Protestants.

Come and join our Spring Party

My dear co-Tolkienologists, dear friends, visitors, whoever:
I am proud to announce to you: The Tolkien's Creative Endeavours Hall's first Spring Party
Whoever wants to take part will have to contribute with a poem for our poems contest. First price... well, we do not need a first price or we would have to give everyone a first price. We do it just for fun.
And we want YOU for our party!

It's not always a week later, however, it is never earlier. Sometimes it is the same week, other times there can be a month difference between the two. The determination of Pascha in the Orthodox Church is rather complicated and has something to do with both the Vernal Equinox (Spring) and Passover (one cannot have Pascha before Passover). This year, the two fell a week apart.

In honor of this glorious Feast Day, I say to all my Christian friends, Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike, "Christ is Risen!" and respond to the same greeting, "Indeed He is Risen!"

God bless.

I was chrismated into the Orthodox Church when I was 20, shortly before I married my husband. Of course, since then I have made it my business to learn about the Church. Unfortunately, I am still very ignorant! I sing in the choir and even led our choir for a year (four part acapella singing in the Slavonic tradition). I have had some classes in St. Vladimir's Orthodox Seminary in Crestwood, New York and my husband is an ordained Deacon in the Church. And even with all of that, I have problems understanding just how they arrive at the date of Pascha every year!

I think that so-called "Church Slavonic" is the same for all the Slavic peoples including both the Russians and Bulgarians. I knew an elderly Romanian priest and when he served for his Romanian believers, he served in Church Slavonic and as you know, Romanian is not a Slavic language.

Anyway, God bless all in this most Holy of Seasons!

Second, I'd like to announce that I'm doing some tiding up of the Guild. Some threads that are sticky will be no longer so and others will replace their "sticky" places. Just wanted to let you know in case you see the changes.

Anyways, this guild of Outcasts debate team thing of mine was about to do some crazy little practice debate thing with the guild of Dwarves before that big and scary debate tournament thing showed up, but that little team disintegrated. oh well. How would your little team feel about having a little debate with our little team? We gots a topic all ready for you. I'll be PMing other people with little teams. Whoever PMs me back, wins the honor of being beaten by us!
I hope we shall be able to answer the challenge! ;)

Members of GoT, Eledwhen was so kind as to remind us that on May, 23-rd our beloved life-time Guild-Master and founder of this guild - GROND HAS A BIRTHDAY.

As the day is near, I would like to hear from all of you some great ideas of how to commemorate this EVENT! :)

I personally think that one of the best presents for him would be if GoT wins the debate vs. GoO! ;)

The Ladies from the Endeavours Hall could write some beautiful poems.

Oh! As I'm writing all this an idea came to my one-cup-of-coffee mind.(I'm going to make another one right away! ;) :D )

Let's make May 23-rd the "Grond's Day"!!!

What I mean, let all the appropriate threads be dedicated on the character "Grond" on this day.
Ex:
"Study" - some research about this character.
"Hall of Endeavours" - poems or sth. similar about Grond (both - the character and our Guild-Master! ;) )
"Meet the Guild "- Let's remember and tell the other how each one of us met Grond and tell some funny (or not;) ) stories about that.
"Event Game" - who will think of a good riddle related to the Hammer from the Underworld but we shall have to guess the event.

Things like these, you know....

Well........MORE ideas???

Mrs. Maggott
05-16-2003, 12:18 PM
I always believed that Grond was special! Another May baby! As one myself (the 30th), I am sure that he will have a glorious day and we all wish him well.

Have a Grond day, Grond! (as the English would say!) :D

So, start thinking!

Gil-Galad- here's a poem you can use with her.

Written by the great Petrarch...

I find no peace, but I am not at war,
I fear and hope, and burn and I am ice;
I fly above the heavens, and lie on earth,
and I grasp nothing and embrace the world.

One keeps me jailed who neither locks nor opens,
nor keeps me for her own nor frees the noose;
Love does not kill, nor does he loose my chains;
he wants me lifeless but won't loosen me.

I see with no eyes, shout without a tongue;
I yearn to perish, and I beg for help;
I hate myself and love somebody else.

I thrive on pain and laugh with all my tears;
I dislike death as much as I do life:
because of you, lady, I am this way.

Or, if you want something a bit more upbeat...

This one's by Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Hope these help! ;) :D

Attention People-

According to the Admin of Debating Tournament Pippin Took (Aule) we are to Host a debate in the second round.

The debate will be between Guild of Dwarves/Elves and Guild of Outcasts and will be hosted by Tolkienologists.

Hosting means that one of us would have to take the job of choosing a topic, picking judges (one each form all the non-participating Guilds, the Host-person will also be a judge) and opening threads in Our Guild.

Would anyone of you like to host the Debate? The Choosen Topic need to be send to Meadhros via PM to be approved as a legitimate topic.

Mrs. Maggott
05-26-2003, 06:24 PM
As I have very little debating experience on the forum, I cannot take the responsibility to host such a matter, but surely we who are not hosts might help whomever accepts the position perhaps with debate subject suggestions. It seems that choosing topics and getting them passed on by the powers that be, choosing judges from non-participating guilds and then being him/herself a judge is a bit much to ask from any one person.

I look forward to seeing how it's done so that I may be of greater assistance in the future. Is there any place we can make suggestions for topics or should we pm whomever is appointed/chosen/volunteers for the position?

Thanks.

Eriol
05-26-2003, 06:32 PM
I very much agree with Mrs. Maggott. I would host this if no one else offered to do it (why do I feel like Frodo at the Council of Elrond? :D), but I think we have more experienced members around here. Even without hosting, however, I feel the members of the guild can contribute, especially towards choosing a topic and the other judges.

Beleg
05-26-2003, 06:46 PM

I think it should be better to PM the host, once he/she is selected. I don't think it would be subtle to make the topics public before the debate is due to start.

Mrs. Maggott
05-26-2003, 06:52 PM
Just a thought: perhaps it might be more politic (and more polite and deferential) to ask the non-participating Guilds to put forth their judge rather than go into a Guild and approach a Guild member separately. This way, that Guild gets to ask for volunteers and is able to choose among its own members. I don't know if we would be terribly happy as a Guild to have someone from another Guild come in and ask one of our members to fulfill some function without even going first to at least the Guildmaster for permission to do so.

If the non-participant Guilds choose their own judge, that takes the onus off our host(ess) to do so. That's one less chore for our member and no one's "nose" gets bent out of shape because protocol was not observed.

It's just a thought.

Hmm, Nice idea. Although It is sought of traditional for the host of choose judges of his own liking for the debates. The host is automatically supposed as an impartial person, and I am in favor of allowing the host to choose the judges himself. He need not make the choice public, in this way no other member, who isn't been choosen would take offence.

Though this too is just a thought and not a very coherrent one at it too!

Mrs. Maggott
05-26-2003, 07:34 PM
If that is the way "it is done", then of course, no one will be upset. I just thought it would be deferential to approach the Guildmaster. After all, this isn't just "somewhere" on the forum, but the Guilds which I expect have a more recognized structure and therefore, a slightly more "territorial" arrangement. But, of course, as noted, if this is "normal procedure", than I have no problem with it certainly.

Lhunithiliel
05-26-2003, 09:55 PM
Beleg, do you mean that it is NOT the Guild that should host the debate but an individual - someone out from us?
But in both cases, I think that the Squire to Gil-Galad should clearly be responsible for hosting and organizing it all.

As for picking up judges from other guilds, I agree with Mrs.Maggott. I do think that the Squire should address the Guild leaders and ask them for an applicant for the job.

Then, who will do the judge-job from our side?

Ah, my dearest! :)
Are YOU his Squire?
I don't know! I have offered to you the position of an honourable Squire and I have also offered to the Guild Deputy-Masters to pick up a one of you ...
So, have G-G picked you up?
...I would not even be surprised! ;) :D

In fact I said the Squire should take up this job because G-G himself we all know is missing these days - both in body as much as in mind! :p

All right... calm down... let's see ...who else could do the job?
I still think that it would be the right thing to do if one of the Deputies took the job.

Beleg, do you mean that it is NOT the Guild that should host the debate but an individual - someone out from us?

I was saying that the Guild should decide to choose a person who will act as a host.

Happy Birthday Anamatar.:)

First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY LHUN!
I hope you'll achieve everything you want from your life!

As you can see I'm back.I spent a crazy week and I'm totally exhausted from drinking and dancing in the clubs in Sunny Beach on the Black Sea.I missed you guys!

I see many things have changed and happened here and tonight I'll have to read a lot and start doing my duties again. This is the place where I want to thank to Finduilas who took my duties for the time I was offline.

I saw that a host was chosen.I want to apologize I wasn't online and didnot take that task, but as you could see it was really impossible for me to be online these days.Anyway,Ant,if you are busy,I can do it,cause actually that was my job.Don't feel obliged to do it only because I wasn't online.

I am soooo sorry not to have been around here lately. Seems I missed some birthday parties! Happy Birthday, Anamatar, Mrs. Maggot and Lhun! I hope you still accept my best wishes for the three of you.

Lhun: I am sorry that I couldn't begin my controling of the members list earlier, but I think all of you will like my reasons for not coming to the forum: I have finally found some nice, sensible, good-looking guy who likes me just as I like him. To make it short: I am presently in the process of falling deeply in love. And this takes much of my time, as you will sureyl understand.

But today I am going to begin with making a new members' list.
I will look, which members of the old list have posted within the last two months. Those who didn't will get a PM, asking nicely for more participation, else they will be deleted from the list.
Then I will look for posts of non-members. They will receive a PM asking, if they don't want to join us.

I was offline for several days and now I'm back.
I had to announce the fact I was going to be offline but I just forget.
I had really hard days and I was not able to touch a pc.In Friday night I played at Club Mania in Sunny Beach and returned in 10:30 on the next day,and I was at the 45th anniversary of English Language School "Plovdiv",which I graduated last month. And then I had to go to the so called "Brum Fest"-neo metal and hardcore festival in Stamboliiski,a city near Plovdiv.Although I don't listen to such kind of music I had some work there.I had some work there and by the way I met "Fyeld" 's dj (very nice guy from Finland). What is more, the girl I've been talking about for the last month and a half,Mary, was there and we spent a great time together.I stayed in Stamboliiski till 0:30 a.m when I had to see her home and go back to Plovdiv with the vocalist and the base guitarsit of the group "Delete".

For 3 days I travelled more than 600 kilometers and slept only 3 hours.I played 2:30h at club Mania and spent 8 hours at the "Brum Fest".I was totally exhausted and I needed a long rest.Till today.

The problem is that I'll probably sign a contract for a dj tour over Bulgarian seaside and ,Greece,Turkey(Istanbul),Macedonia and Serbia, which means that I'll be very very busy for a week.
That also means I want be able to make Feanor's biography, something too bad for me,having in mind,he is the greatest elf for me.

Hello, what's going on? Is it simply a matter of time constraints or is there some other unhappy situation brewing?

I have not been about too much for personal reasons, but surely if it is just the fact that someone is unable to contribute for a time because of such personal reasons, it hardly requires leaving the Guild! From the sound of things, this is a different matter altogether and bespeaks of problems other than merely ones of personal time constraints. I hope this is not the case, but if it is, I too, am sorry. I have also noticed a drop off in activity on the forum but I put that to the end of the academic year and all that that implies. Maybe we all need a vacation because it certainly seems that a lot of the joy and fun is missing somehow. Sometimes one can get too much even of a good thing.

Now you cannot ay they don't give you enough reason to reconsider, Beleg. A begging guildmaster and a respected member like GG asking you to stay is not something to take lightly.

Also, I happen to agree with the majority here, that you should indeed reconsider that decision.

Gil-Galad
07-03-2003, 11:04 PM
I'm doing that ,cause most of all I think Beleg is a great person.I have had the chance to talk with him,to read his posts, works, etc I would say he is a person I respect very much.He is not one of the other members. In the whole TTF there are persons who I do like and persons who I do respect and I think it is an honour for me to know them.Beleg is one of them, that is why ,once again,I'm asking him to reconsider.
Friends are everything and everything should be done for them.Even to ask them several times on thing.:(

Our illustrious and magnificent (and sometimes scary) Guild Mistress will be happy to assist you, but you might try the character studies and see if there is anyone on the list who hasn't been "taken" and about whom you would like to comment. You might also take a look at some of the past lectures and I believe they are attempting to revitalize the essay thread. Go to any of these threads and see who's "in charge" and pm them. They will be able to help you find your niche at least in the beginning.

But don't fear that we are all so "advanced" that you won't fit in! That's hardly the case and we appreciate and welcome all newcomers to the Guild. Everybody has to start somewhere!

Lhunithiliel

Hey, my Captain, here speaks your "illustrious and magnificent (and sometimes scary) Guild Mistress" :o :D :D, would you like to revive the Trivia - thread here within the Guild?

As for other activities, sit down, think and in the "Round Table" or in the "Discussion/Debates topics" threads and in the "Study" you can propose some new ideas. This way, you will yourself start an activity where you will be the first to know what's "cooking"! :D

The Gallery of Characters you already know and if I'm not mistaken you have to prepare a profile of a Nazgul. Besides, take your time and read some of the threads and then you're welcome to participate!

Might I make a suggestion that the Guild have a hiatus on all its activity - including activity that was scheduled to begin or posted in July through August and put everything off until September. There's something about that time of year that sparks interest in intellectual and scholastic pursuits whereas, this time of year usually results in the desire to lay back and loaf. In fact, even if one posts information during this time of year, there may be little or no interest in it until the fall and by that time other information may be posted subsequent to it on the thread. For instance, I am supposed to post on the character study thread in August. However, I am sure that even were I to do so, sufficient interest in the subject will not really resurface until September and so my efforts could go unnoticed (and that's a lot of effort for so little return!).

Therefore, I make the formal suggestion that aside from day to day questions or Guild maintenance, that all serious scholastic efforts be put off until after Labor Day (the first Monday in September for us here in the U.S.) and then let us see if we have any problems reinstating interest in these projects!

Lhunithiliel

Not all of the activities, not all... :)

I expect Finduilas to come back about 20-th and I hope Manveru is around, so the three of us can use the time to have our M.M. dedicated conversation. After all, we seem to be interested in the topic. Why pospone it?

And the Debate Tournament is still going on......I think ;)

But as for the Characters I see your point, Mrs.Maggott. To a certain extent it is so, yet even if we are a little behind schedule, I wouldn't like to see this activity "frozen" untill September.
Lots of time till September! Who can tell what will happen ? ;) :D

As for keeping order in the Guild.... Well, I will be here. Not to mention the coming next week reorganization of the space of the Guild and I also expect the Testing & Ranking page to be ready some time by the end of the next week, which means that it has to be thoroughly finished and start used.

I personally wouldn't call for a summer hiatus.
It is obvious that the activity in the Guild is "on a vacation", but it hasn't died completely!
People go ...but they also return ...

I would say, we'd better use this time to think about the future and whoever comes to a good idea, let us all learn about it.

The Guild is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all time... :) :D

Beloved Guild Mistress: you suffer from that wonderful quality of youth, the "slow time" syndrome. You see the summer stretching endlessly ahead - "plenty of time" before September - while an older person such as myself knows full well that that time will just "disappear" in the blink of a beach-bound eye. I know that it seems as if an endless array of days are before us until at least the "official" summer ends (summer itself, of course, doesn't end until September 21st or whenever the autumnal equinox occurs this year), but I can assure you that this time will simply "fly by", filled with all those activities which are such a large part of this time of the year - one of which is generally not sitting indoors on the computer!

By all means continue whatever discussions are ongoing amongst those involved, but I still would formally suggest a sort of unofficial "time out" on more formal activities until around the second week in September. That should insure that most of our "sun worshippers" have returned to the indoors! :p

Ah! Maybe it's all because I have the sea right here... The sea, the beaches, the town, full of people from all over the world... And it seems equal to me whether it's summer or not... :)

I guess the "romanitc" touch the word "summer" brings to most people has not the same meaning for me. Life around here is as active as ever... and I myself feel active all the time...

But I'd wait for the others to enjoy their sumemr adventures and I hope when they come back in September they'll tell us exciting stories.
I also expect them to come back with some new strength of interest to what we have met here for.

Untill then... the shadow will be just as convenient to me as daylight.. ;)
Am I not a wraith?! ... Living quite comfortably in both worlds....

Hey my guild-fellows...
I don't know how to state this ('cause I see what's happening within the Guild - ''summer frenzy'' has finally come;)), but maybe I won't be able to participate on the forum for quite a long (I hope not to long--I'm kinda ''addicted'' to this community;)) period of time... starting Monday, 21 July (and it’s not summer vacation trip). I emphasized ''maybe'', because not everything is fixed, yet, but I wanted to let You know, ‘cause I am in TTF DT’s team for round 5 (darn it! I wanted to participate in that so much:(), and since it hasn’t started yet, you may find someone to replace me...
I strongly hope that it won’t be necessary...
I will know more about this ‘matter’ on Monday and I confirm my ‘absence’ (if needed).
BEST OF LUCK

My dear friends...
I hardly dare writing this...
because...
I am going to leave you for quite a long time...

*ducks away from the rotten apples and tomatoes thrown*

As you may have seen during the last weeks I wasn't online, due to my exams coming nearer and nearer these days. You can believe me if I tell you this semester was pure horror! (At least what concerns university. In private my life has made a great turn to the better.)

What adds is all the organizational things that want to be clarified and... well... organized for the next months.
Did I tell you I will be in San Francisco from August 26th to April 5th?
At least now you know. As I don't know if I can find the time to come online then I want to give up my Deputy Guild-Master position to someone more worthy to it. I haven't been of much help, I know. Perhaps you can find someone approriate for it.

Mrs. Maggott
07-18-2003, 05:20 PM
Beloved Hrila:

We will just consider that, like Bilbo, you have gone on "an adventure" and await to hear all about it when you return.

Certainly, we must all understand when the nature of our individual lives mean that we must 'depart' for some little time from our involvement in the forum in general and the Guild in particular. There is certainly no need, however, to "leave" the forum or the Guild. Just let us all know that you are not ill (so we don't worry!) and that hopefully, there will come a time when you will be able to return if all goes as you hope!

We, of course, will miss you, and keep you in our thoughts and prayers, awaiting the day when you will return full of all kinds of fascinating stories to tell. Until then, rather than "good-bye", let us all just say, "fare you well".

Hirila
07-18-2003, 06:00 PM
What I meant when saying "leave" is that I most likely I won't find the time nor the possibility to go online.
Of course I don't "leave". I'm only on vacation, just as you said.

Of course I'll try and take a look at what'S going on here from time to time. But I don't know if I'll be able to.

I only want to say that I will participate on the forum, but... (here we go again;) there are always 'some' ''buts'':D)

I don't know how to say/explain this... Like I wrote earlier, I am having a 'weird time' nowadays (family matters of various kind and stuff like that...) and I can 'suddenly disappear' from being around... so I think it'd be better (for the rest of the members of our guild) if I don't participate in such activities like TTF DT--> any round... as long as my 'weird-time-thing' continues:( (I don't want to leave in the middle of a debate;)). I hope that this won't last too long...

So I'll be around (participating in what I can--except for 'special' activities-see above;)), but I can 'suddenly disappear' for some time... but it might not happen at all (so I called it 'weird time';)-I don't like this hesitation:mad: ).

I am really sorry... sometimes life's a ... hmm (you know what it's like;)).

I am sorry, but will someone explain to me WHAT people mean when they say that the "things in the Guild are not going well"...or that "it is desorganized"... ????????

What is it that you expect from me?!

I'm doing all I can in order to organize this place as well as possible.
I am here to always defent the Guild and any Guild-member!
I keep peace and understanding!
I am constantly trying to "sparkle" activities.
I always support new ideas......

What more do you expect me to do?

And WHY are you expecting ME to do most of the things around?
It's so convenient to say: I'm leaving because I don't like it any more!"
Excuse me!
This is NOT as watching a movie! You don't like the movie - you go out! Big deal!

A Guild affilliation is MUCH MORE than that!
It is dedication!
It is active participation!
It is willingness to do sth. FOR the Guild and NOT expect the Guild to do sth. for you! (and although a cliche, it is so very true!!!!)

This is NOT the Guild of Lhunithiliel!
This is the Guild of Tolkienologists!
And in my understanding, leaving the Guild means one does NOT feel Tolkienologist any more!

Finduilas
07-22-2003, 08:45 PM
Now,first of all,Lhun, let me assure you that your work as Guild's Mistress is excellent and nobody complains about it.You DO everything perfectly and despite the personall problems and arrangements remain truthful. And if there is a problem IT'S NOT YOU!
I do understand, however, your worries about the participation and the attitude of the members.I try to ascribe this to the holiday. But if people tend to go away after it too, then I don't know.Their attitude should be changed.Because even now the Guild is being organized right? In a City?So where's the problem!By Seprember it WILL be organized enough even for the most pretencios members. So then it is not the organization that is wrong. What is it?The Testings are being renovated too.So it's not the ranks as well. What is it that it so wrong ?I don't know. The Guild's Mistress is fine, the people are fine too as far as I have had the chance to talk with them.So the problem I cannot find.I hope that people who see this problem will tell us or at least the Mistress so that we can 'fix' this and make the Guild proper enough for everybody.

Eriol
07-22-2003, 08:56 PM
I second that, Finduilas; if I do not contribute more it is because I am lazy.

:o

Our Guild-Mistress knows how to spur me into action, though :D. (One of her greatest qualities, among many, as Guild-Mistress).

I'm always willing to "do something for the Guild"... just ask, Lhun!

;)

I just have a native dislike of the limelight, that's all...

Mrs. Maggott
07-24-2003, 02:37 PM
You know, this reminds me of what many people say about going to church: "I don't get anything out of it." Well, the fact is, church ain't "entertainment" - or at least it shouldn't be. When I go to church, I go to what is called a "liturgy" and that word quite literally means, "the work of the people". One isn't supposed to go and be a spectator, but a contributing participant. If one actually contributes and "works" at worship, then one will "get something out" of the service.

The Guild is much the same. If there is apparent "disorganization", it's simply because we have a lot of things going on at the same time as the result of the wide variety of interests expressed by our members. We are not a narrowly focused group! It is easy to have rigid structure when you have an extremely limited area of interest. However, it is also every easy to become "disinterested" in such limited fare.

Secondly, if one is contributing to the various ongoing topics of interest, then one will hardly "lose interest". If one isn't, that is not the fault of the Guild or the Guildmistress. If one doesn't see something in the Guild at the moment of interest, then it behooves the member to consider what would interest him or her and bring the topic to the attention of the rest of the members on the appropriate thread for the purpose. If there is interest among at least some of the members on that topic, then off you go!

Thirdly, this has been an exhausting and busy time. As has been pointed out, five members of our Guild have been elected into the Council of Nine. That means that the entire time that that matter was being debated and then voted upon, a considerable number of our members were extremely busy therein and could not participate fully in the Guild. Then we had several members who for personal reasons had to leave or became very, very ill and could not participate and then came the spring and exams for our scholars and then summer and the desire to just sit back and "veg(etate)", as we used to say. None of these things were the fault of anyone, least of all, Lhun, who has been working like a demented dwarf trying to build up interest and participation against very, very heavy odds.

It is always easy to criticize and find fault. It is more difficult to attempt to find solutions or to be patient during periods of "upsetment". We are in the middle of the summer and, frankly, I don't think any of us are really going to be "gung ho" for much until September brings with it a desire to return to "work" within the Guild. Therefore, to my mind, this should be a period wherein we look at all that is going on and "clean house", culling out whatever is no longer of interest and taking suggestions on possible new approaches (I am just entralled with the 13 CD narrated by Martin Shaw of The Silmarillion! What a find!) etc. Again, it is easy to say, "what a mess this place is" and walk away. It is harder to ask, "what can I do to help" or "this is where I think we need to do 'x' or 'y'."

I know that I have not been of much help in the Guild lately (especially taking out our Guildmistress's time on my wonderful avatar), but I hope to again be a worthy contributor in due course of time - and I would hope that all who are students of Tolkien (and thus members of this Guild) would feel the same way.

Don't be G-G!
Although I am too so sorry that this activity has stopped. I hope this is only temporarily!
The project is extremely good to be abandoned!
But this is the "doom" of all the long-lasting activities - they go slowly and they always lose the initial "sparkle". I think the important thing is to keep the project alive, which means, that it has to be taken care of more often and with more attention.

What was it like then....one year ago...?

At that time I quite accidently found TTF and started reading through the threads and I said to myself : "Ross, you still have to read A LOT MORE if you want to be here!" So even if I had registered, I visited the place to only read and learn... And then..I started knowing people around and then...I dared to post here and there - mostly questions.... and later I was marked by Grond and Maedhros and the Mighty Hammer of the Underworld made me an offer I could not refuse ;) :D... and I entered his guild....
Ah!...memories... :D

What have I achieved?

I am supposed to wax eloquent on the "hidden king" aspect of Aragorn in August. I have been annoying my daughter (who has a large libarary on the subject of another hidden king - Arthur) to provide me with some sources referable to that subject, but she hasn't been very forthcoming as of yet because she is very busy. However, I do have a hold on her since she wants me to make part of a costume for her for next Saturday. Hopefully, she will "come through" if I use a little blackmail.

On the other hand, I do not believe that August is good for me (depending upon a number of things), so if not, I will endeavor to deliver it sometime in September. But as I have "delivered" in the past (Lecture series), one need not fear that I shall fail to deliver at least something in this thread as well. However, I would prefer that it be something good rather than just "something".

I at least am doing so. :)

I also suggest we start considering the Birthday of the Guild - August 31-st as the "opening" of the active season for the Guild.
What say you?
I, for one, will be ready to offer a whole "program" of activities and I hope most of it will be approved by the members ...

I'm finaly back! And I fear that my Gallery of Characters report is all but 25% finished, what with vacation and my parents taking my computer away for a while... I'll get on it RIGHT NOW! Actualy I'm gonna go see what I missed here at TTF in my absence... then I'll get on it!

When I'm done with it, I just post it in the Gallery of Characters thread correct?

I might suddenly drop offline soon, as my harddrive is failing me and the second PC not ready to be set up yet. :(

Just in case I do drop off, this does not mean I do no longer wish to be in this guid. Just though i'd give you guys a heads up.

It might happen with me too. :(

Not because of some computer problems but there some other things that might keep me from being too active.

But still...I'll be around , so BEHAVE! :D

And keep an eye of the Guild whenever I'm absent, please!

:cool:Congratulations, Melian! Archeology is such a neat field of study! Both my Mum, and my best friend have degrees in Archeology, and my Mum has been on several digs in Southwest Colorado, where there are many Native American artifacts.

Again, Congrats!:D

Update on my belated Character Report!

I have now only to site the Nazgűl's apearances in Unfinished Tales, reflect on the passages, and site the Nazgűl's chronology, then it will be done! I'm still gona go over some of the Tolkienologits' finished reports to see sort of a standard... if there's anything else I should put in. Expect it done in a couple days. I don't have Cross Country practice tonight (THANK GOD!), so I should get a descent amount done. I have a game of lazer tag I have to make an appearance at though (Hahaha I'm so popular:D (and modest!)) in about... 2 hours... But that shouldnt hinder my studies too bad.

Ha! Me on the tele?! :D :D :D
Well, thank you all. It's so rewarding to be congratulated so much on such a cherished achievement. By the way, have you noticed how my 'colleague' Indiana Jones not just digs but stumbles upon precious artefacts? That's what I won't do. I intend to bear scorching heats and dusty fields...the real thing is best you know.

Manveru! Your skin worries me! Are you red right now?:D :D :D

How, do you think, Melian has chosen to become an archeologist?!? :p :D

In fact they're going to roll the trilogy once again - this time on TV, starting this Friday! :)

Mel, I wish you finally ca convince "Discovery" to come and film the historical treasures of our ancient land! :D

Manveru, don't you have yoghurt there? It's the BEST to keep your skin ON your back! And if there isn't ...try cucumbers (....and I don't mean eating these....) :D

I just want to tell you instead of GG that he's very busy now concerning his departure from Bulgaria. He's having problems getting his visa and that's why he has no time to dedicate to anything but the documents. He'll most probably return soon.
He wanted me to tell you that he wouldn't be able to participate in the debate and if you let me I can take part instaed of him.

Gil-Galad

Well, thank you Findi, you helped me once again!
Unfortunately I faced some problems concerning my student visa and my future departure from Bulgaria and going to Belgium. That is why these days, probably till 29 August (when I will eventually have my visa)I'll be extremely busy with all documents and my preparation for the departure.
That means I'll not be able to participate actively in the forum, and I'm really sorry for this.Only tonight I have the chance to dedicate some time to the Guild.I would like to ask Findi to replace me in the debate.
I hope you will understand the difficulty of my situation and the fact that my life depends on the following days.
