If this idea is ever enforced, you should be the Chief Justice, Mrs. Maggott.

You are very kind, but surely I am not the only person who views the matter in this way? If your judges are not going to be absolutely "simon-pure", then instead of judges, you should leave it to a popular vote among non-participating Guilds as to who won. You would still have the problem of "favoritism", but at least it would be spread out among so many people that it would probably all even out in the end and the side that made the strongest points would win.

Thanks Lhun and Manveru!
You people are so great and provide me with the feeling of security and friendliness.
:D :D
I would like to thank all these people in this Guild; it is indeed very much like living in a real family. :p
Thanks all.

Hi everyone, just a quick heads up on the situation with my computer. My HDD finally gave out its last breath and shall have to be replaced. Now this is sadly not something I can do overnight. So i'll be back as swiftly as I can.

It's been over a week since I've been here, so I thought I'd check in. I've been quite busy preparing for next week. I have a bit of touching up to do on my report on Gandalf, then I'll be done!

Btw, happy birthday Beleg, and anyone else whom I may have missed!

I'll be back...:)

What do you say we have internal debates more often? I think I would enjoy an in-Guild debate much, much more. We could even use the current topics! I mean, not current as in "still opened", but as in "from the present tournament".

I really think that the best way to measure pure debating skill is "debating to and fro"; when the two teams swap positions after a while. It is also very fun :D. That's is probably an idea that will never be implemented, just as the "Supreme Court". But I can dream up some pretty strange ideas.

:)

Internal debates are also a great way for everybody to enjoy a friendly debate.

Oh, I'll give another belated happy birthday wish to Beleg, besides the one I just wrote on the Birthday thread :).

I heartily agree. What annoyed me is not the criticism of style, it is the blatant unfairness of "Eriol sank to an all-time low when he dismissed the GoO's arguments as emotional arguments" -- while the "emotional arguments" were simple rudeness (as admitted by GoO in the debate!!). They were being rude to me; I said this was an emotional argument. And I sank to an all-time low.
I admitted I was being rude to you early on in the debate.

The arguement you called emotional happened after that, and you said you were refering to my team-mates arguement.

So the rudeness of me is not what you called emotional, according to what you said in the debate.

This post of yours here is a perfect example of why I said I disagree with your style of debate.

It seems too deceptive to me... in short. Of course that doesn't make it wrong.... I just don't like it, especially when it is a topic from Tolkien's books.

But this bit I quote you on here, looks as though you are saying that my rudeness is the thing you called emotional. Yet in the debate you make very clear that you were refering to YayGollum's arguement. Is this not deceptive?

May be that all is fair, short of personal attacks, in a debate. Anyhow you did say GoO personally attacked you in the debate. I wonder where?

Someone pointed me to this thread, and if not for that I would never have known that either me or YayGollum, or both of us, were being accussed of personal attacks.

I think we at least deserve for you to show these attacks to the people you are making the claim to - GoT.

Eriol

Oh well. I decided to post this not on the Great Debates Matters' precisely because I didn't want to turn it into something public. You can be rude to me, Nóm, it is your right. I don't mind. I mind it when a judge says that I sank to an all-time low when I was restraining myself from answering in kind to your rudeness. "Emotional argument" is an expression denoting an argument which is emotional; just that. I don't see how it can be "an all-time low"; it would be good to explain the reason for that; but that's me.

What annoyed me was the constant rudeness. Do you really want me to dig for examples? This, I felt, was very unfriendly. I don't like unfriendly debates. And I was startled to see my behavior being criticized on account of an expression which simply denoted the argument itself.

Yes, I was being "deceptive", if you mean I was withholding what I truly wanted to say about your (not Yay's) rudeness. I try to be deceptive in these situations. It seems it's not worth it. Well, so be it.

The unfairness is the personal attack Snaga saw fit to make in a judging post. Not your rudeness. You have no obligation to like me, or to be impartial. But Snaga had.

I will avoid unfriendly debates in the future, as I said here. I will only take part in them if the Guild wants me. And I will no longer be deceptive.

Hopefully, Beleg's computer problems will be fixed in a fairly short time.

As for "liking" one another: I don't understand why animosity has to enter any of our dealings with one another. We are all interested in Tolkien which certainly gives us a common ground (even when we don't like the films!) and certainly, whatever disagreements do occur should not be to the degree that it extends into personal dislike. There may be people one likes better on the forum, but there should be no one that one actively dislikes. And, of course, the way to avoid being disliked is to always act toward the other person as you would wish that person to act towards you - a very old, but still relevant ethical principle.

That doesn't mean that one cannot engage in intellectual disputes, but if one looks at history, one will find that disputants don't have to be personal adversaries. However, history will also make clear that disputants who remain cordial are able to do so because they treat each other with respect despite their adversarial positions on certain issues!

I also ask my fellow forum members to also remember that our debates are in fact "institutional" in nature. Frequently, one finds oneself "defending" a position with which one personally disagrees. Therefore, how much more difficult should it be for such debates to degenerate into personal animosity! After all, I may actually agree with you!

Let us debate with passion and even with wit, sarcasm and verbal "blunt instruments" (regarding positions, NOT personalities) but let us always show respect for our adversaries and when the debate is over, whichever side wins, if everyone who has participated has acted in such a way it will insure good fellowship remains. I cannot imagine that the obvious intellectual accomplishments demonstrated by my fellow Plazarians preclude following such a simple method of preventing future unpleasantness. Can you?

Agreed, as usual, Mrs. Maggott. This was always my goal in the Forum. I don't like to dislike people. Being who I am, I'm sure that I will have forgotten about all this in some days. I'm not too worried about me disliking people, I know it is shortlived. And I can't do anything if people dislike me. If everybody would simply listen to people like you, Mrs. Maggott, it would be easier...

Let's hope Beleg gets a new computer or internet connection for his birthday :D.

I would like to relay a story (true) for those who wish to consider it:

Many years ago under the Soviet yoke, an Orthodox bishop was arrested, imprisoned and grieviously tortured by the head of the facility in which he was imprisoned. This relatively young man was a "good" Party member, but that did not save him when years later Stalin began a new purge and he was "denounced" for his "counter-revolutionary" thoughts. In his turn, the man was imprisoned and tortured even as he had tortured the Orthodox prelate. Eventually, he found himself in a large communal cell where he lay dying from the cruel treatment he had suffered.

As happens with many people when everything they believed on this earth turns out to be a cruel sham, this man turned to God and in his extremis he asked if any of his fellow prisoners was a priest so that he could confess his sins, receive absolution and die in the knowledge that he would enter the Kingdom of God. One of the men in the dark, stinking cell shuffled over to him and told him that he was in fact a priest. This elderly man heard his confession - all the horrible things he had done "for the Party and the State". When he was finished, the priest asked him if he repented of his wicked life and when the man replied that he did, gave him absolution and consigned his soul to Jesus Christ. However, before he could leave, the dying man grabbed the old priest's hand and said that of all his evil deeds, he regretted most not being able to beg the forgiveness of the bishop he had tortured so long ago, but, alas, by now the man must be dead. "Do you think he would have forgiven me, Father?" the man asked tremulously. The other man leaned close to the dying man, kissed him gently and said, "My son, I forgave you long ago!" For indeed, the "priest" who had heard his confession and given him absolution was none other than the bishop he had treated so evilly years before.

If we were to know that someone we "disliked" were dying or in great pain, how quickly would we forget our silly pettiness and embrace that person hoping to somehow intercede on his or her behalf! How often we miss the opportunity to be kind, to forgive, to say a good word or do a good deed! And how when life is ending do we regret so bitterly each and every missed opportunity! My fellow members, nothing is so useless or painful than regret. I beg you all to live your lives as if the person with whom you "speak" today may in fact not be here tomorrow. That way, you will never regret having not said "I'm sorry, will you forgive me?".

I think this activity will attract those who like unleashing their fantasy to no limits...But we also shall have to have in mind the true information coming from the books...which means ...study :D
I like it! :D

I think that it will be an elegant way to make us look through the books :p and I expect it to be fun.

I also think to place this activity into the Glittering Caves.
Therefore, I'll open there a thread - smth. like in the Noldorin Forge - for new suggestions in that specific creative forum.

All right? :)

I am sorry for not participating really actively but I have been a tad ill not to mention found a treasure trove of pleasure in the form of Anne of Green Gables series.

Oh and on the Journey Man test, the answer to the Question about Tom Bombadill seems a bit *****. Option A is almost as correct as Option B.

Eriol

I think both answers are correct, since both are given as reasons for the Council's choice. I pm'd Beorn about it.

Please, read this (http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?MessageBoard)

What a lucky boy you are, Gil-Galad!
Moving to another town, another country seems so cool.

Gil-Galad: I hope you read this: Don't think it is easy to start a new life somewhere else where you don't know the people and their habits and where you possibly have to speak a foreign language all the time. Don't think you will like it from the very beginning. Oh no. It takes time to learn about all that. But then, and hopefully in a very short space of time, you will learn to appreciate your new life.

I have moved to San Francisco only a week ago. And I come from a quiet little town in the South of Germany. And it was hell! I felt terrible, alone, noone to talk to, no friends, the city so big and strange and everything so different. Let me give you good advice, and that's for free: try to give your life a routine. That's the way to settle yourself in a new place. And you will see: you can find new friends quite easily.

But perhaps you don't need that advice. I dearly hope you are one of those persons who settle down easily in a new place and are likely to adapt to a new life in a short time. My congratulations: moving to another country is the best way to find your own personal way of living. The best way to find yourself.

Eriol

Mushrooms! Mushroomsmushroomsmushrooms... ahemm.. ahm.. sorry for that. But I simply love mushrooms! As soup, in a salad, fried and steamed, ins sauce with noodles, rice, meat... whatever. I could think of thousand ways to do eat mushrooms if I only had the time for it.

You want to hear of San Francisco? Well, there's not much to tell. Compared to any major European city, Paris, London, Berlin, you cannot compare it. It is completely different. It is American. But then not the cliché Yuppie-American you can see in New York, not the cliché diplomat-American in Washington, not the cliché countryside-American from somewhere in Texas. It is a city with many cultures. American, European, Asian, hetero and gay, Yuppie and Hippie, residents and tourists. Just a mixture of everything flavoured with a good amount of bustle. Got it? No? That's okay, I don't get it either. But I will try to do so. I've got another 29 weeks left.

And he helped and advised me, he showed me his personallity. And I just have to say that he is the person (one of the few) for whom I can certainly say that has found his own individuallity. Because I really admire and respect him for what he is.
That's how I feel it and I am really sorry I haven't said it to him yet. I hope he reads it when he comes back again.

Sounds like a broken heart...:( Keep the faith, sis...

Yeah. I guess love is sometimes a 'strange' phenomenon:

Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end... ("Too much love will kill you" by Queen)

Gate7ole... who's that? (Just kidding)
But to tell the truth I almost forgot about him. I'm so sorry. Can it be that we forget about our best members so fast??? That's really sad, if you ask me.

Is there no way he can manage to tell us a bit about his army-experience?
I'd also like to know how GG is doing in Belgium. I've never been there, though it is not that far from my home.

BTW: Can it be that you start feeling at home in a completely different country, culture and language after only three weeks? I've now been to the US and San Francisco for three weeks and though I didn't stop missing my beloved ones at home I don't feel so lost as in the beginning.
It is amazing how adaptable we humans are.

ok,everybody asks me about Belgium.
I'm in one of the most beautiful towns of Belgium -Leuven.It is a town with about 100 000 people population and about 30 000 are students which is great fun.
The climate there is not very pleasant cause it rains almost every day,but the winter is softer than in Bulgaria for example. One of the problems I face here is that I miss the sun,it's not so sunny as in Bulgaria.
The university is something enormous with faculties all over the town.It is the oldest Belgian university established in 1425.
Having in mind that there are about 30 000 students and that in Belgium there are about 536 kinds of beer, you can imagine what all students are doing everyday.
And it is true, for the 12 days I've been here every night there are parties, raves etc..... every night I enjoy myself here.I started even wondering "What am I doing here?Studying or drinking?"But I must confess that the Belgians are very bad drinkers in comparison with us,the Bulgarians.
In Leuven there are students from 120 nationalities so it is easier to find somebody from China,Spain,Italy or wherever you want than to find somebody from Belgium. Thus many differen cultures meet here and especially different national meals (I love eating delicious things)!
Of course I miss Bulgaria very much.I miss the parties in Bulgaria, the atmosphere there,my friends,Finduilas, and some typical Bulgarian meals.
But you know,my ambitions are too big and there is no place for santimental thoughts.

I think it is an easy rule.
It doesn't mean for the newbies to go and walk over hot coal. It only demands to do what they are here for: actively participate. That we make this one-month-testing-rule only shows, that we care for active membership.

I am a "newbie", and some of the goings on in the Guild seem a bit intimidating, essays and debates and lectures and what not... I was wondering, would it be feasible to have something simple for new/possible members to join in with .... Myself, I love to participate in discussions, if it's about anything I know something about, but I can't see myself making any contribution towards essays or stories ... should that exclude me from Guild activities ?

Well Auntie Starflower, you can participate in debates which are easy and fun and also informative. :) You can also participate in active threads within the guild, just go the Noldorin Forge and plunge into the most recent discussion going on there.
Then you can do some simple research work for the study team, just research some character, some event etc.
But I was ask you to participate in debates and active threads, they are both fun and informative and do take part in the Guild Trivia and Event Game!!! They need enthusiastic participants!

Starflower...
As a little more experienced "newbie"... (wow, it sounds funny;)... hey, don't laugh... I'm trying to be serious here:D--OMG, now I "lost" my thought... where was I? Ah...:D)

I think it's time to "revive" one of an old threads (it was a very good idea by samjor, then Anamatar IV took over his project... but since June there hasn't been any further interest in it:(). I'm talking about Enlist Here For Newbie Education Activity (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10843). I guess it might prove useful nowadays (concerning that "one-month-testing-period-thing"). I remember (yeah, right... I've checked it to be sure;)) I was willing to participate, but it was somehow abandoned and... I (and other members, too, I guess) forgot about it.

So... maybe it's a good time to "remind" everyone of this thread (if my "reminder" seems too 'improper' for you all... just ignore it or you can throw sth heavy at me (not a chance:pI'm flying too high:D), but... 'acceptance' would be appreciated;)).

THX for reading this.

*flies away, climbing higher and higher, just in case someone would like to try that throw anyway*;)

Ah... the Newby Education!
Well, blue-winged angel, you'll be the next in the line to start revive this activity... in fact - to start it ...perhaps!
Give it a try!

However, I would VERY KINDLY (you know how kind wraiths can be! :p ) ASK you to use the threads in the Guild according to their purpose and content. I mean...when you have something to say concernint the Guilds's activities, just go the the respective thread in the respective sub-forum and post it there.

The present thread is called "Happenings in the Guild".....and I understand it as the place where important news and announcements should be posted. All other comments and discussions should find their place elsewhere. .... There are enough threads for every and all kind of talk!

This morning I have provided another one - please read and use (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13317) :) :) :)

But it's not the reason I've abandonded the azure of my boundless prison. I'd like to announce sth. Here it is:

My mind has been (and still is;)) so totally enchanted lately that, when deciding to take part in the forthcoming debate, I forgot to death that I'll be away for two days (starting this Monday) without access to the internet (silly arch, silly...). I'm really sorry, no harm meant. Maybe this announcement is not really necessary, 'cos I saw Maedhros asked about a few days 'break' (due to their late last debate...). I'll be back home from my little Road Trip on Tuesday evening, so I guess I won't miss too much (if anything at all;)). Hope to remain in the team. Go GoT!!

So... see ya on Tuesday!

Welcome back, Angel from the blue heavens! :D

You have missed nothing... so get some sleep and look at the Debates-section where you'll find about Round 8 .

I REALLY would VERY MUCH appreciate is our Team could gather tonight on an msn-meeting and discuss the topic.... Well, it will be evening for me and Manveru, night for Beleg and midday for Eri...

Shall we arrange that meeting?

Beleg
10-08-2003, 11:52 AM
Yes, but please not after 5 GMT, then it would be very difficult for me to attend.

Manveru
10-08-2003, 12:25 PM
5 a.m. or p.m. GMT? (sorry for that silly question... maybe I'm kinda sleepy... still;)).
For me the best time would be after 10 p.m. GMT--as long as evening is concerned (that's 11 p.m. here in my country... midnight for our wraith--perfect time for a little 'soul-hounting';); for Beleg it could be a problem--if I count well enough it would be 4 a.m.:( and Eriol... I guess 7 p.m.). So, any suggestions. I don't have much tight schedule these days, but I'm usually online in the morning (Polish time;)) and in the evening (then my sis is either at work or sleeps tight;)). She occupies the comp from the late afternoon till late evening (she's a freak, but I can try and bribe her somehow... to sit for an hour... maybe;)). Tough luck with those timezones...

Oh, I remembered sth... very often when I'm online I see you (I mean Lhun, Beleg and Eriol) are online, too. So maybe it's not that hard to 'pick' a time, right?

Beleg
10-08-2003, 12:33 PM
I could have stayed up till 8 GMT PM but I have had a small attack of Malaria and Doctor has ordered me to go to sleep early every evening. :(
I am online now, I will get offline in an hour, and then for four or five hours I wont get online. I can be online from 3 GMT PM to 5 GMT PM today.

I was hoping for a geopolitical topic but guess this too is an interesting one. :)

I'll Quote Anamatar's threadlink,
http://www.thetolkienforum.com/show...;threadid=13460

Right now I feel burdened with many things, my personal health is not great, my exams are looming, I might also face some family problems, we have to change the house, the health of my mother is falling dangerously. Some how or the other these things have made me get tired of Tolkien discussions; for the moment, I really don't think that I am enjoying them as much as I aught to do.
I have decided to take a break from serious Tolkien work and rest and maybe when [hopefully] most of my problems are sorted out I'll come back; but if for some reason it doesn't happen then this is the ta-ta.

On a side note: I like all the folks in this Guild, even those I had problems and quarells with. You won't believe it but sometimes it was really a lot of fun going through the threads.
I would like to thank Lhun who if nothing else is a very devoted Tolkien fan and If I may be allowed to be so impertinent sometimes get a bit too over zealous. But I respect her for her love for the great man and his works. I am sorry for all the problems I caused, [The deleting of posts from that Arnor thread was a somewhat brash move] and would like to thank you all again.
Eriol, whom I respect very greatly, and Finduilas and Manveru, two very likeble personalities and Gil-galad and the others; I had problems sometimes but I still had a 'rolicking' time and that ballanced it.

I will still be on MSN sometimes if someone cares to have a chat. I will try visiting the forum once a month.

Thanks all and sorry for not helping in the current debate.

I hope I'll have a spot left for me if I am back. :)

Now is the time for our scholars to use the old "carrot and stick" method of raising grades: when you do well, you get an extra hour or two on the forum; when you do less well, you penalize yourself by losing some time as well. It is a great incentive to do well and I'm sure that doting parents will see it in the same light! Keep us apprised of your marks and "reward" yourself for extra effort in bringing up those grades! :p

Now another matter... Lhun... boss... "mom"... there's nothing to be sorry for. We (at least I) understand your concern about this place. We know you want it to be as "alive" as it can be... or even more;) (though I thought that wraiths prefer a "spookie" atmosphere... that's strange phenomenon---kidding:D). I know it's a serious matter, but still... cheer up you all... there's always a brand new day as one smart man sings... we'll definitely miss all those who decided to "rest" (leave isn't a proper word, I don't like it) from this place for awhile, but they'll not be forgotten and I'm sure... one day... they'll come back... keep the faith!

(wow... I guess that "windy" activity helped a little;))

It was hard for me to realize that Ant and Beleg will no be part of the Guild and the forum anymore, and it is impossible for me to accept that my beloved sis will not be part too.
Sorry for the Bulgarian now,but I've gotta say some things to Findi:

I have decided to take a break from serious Tolkien work and rest and maybe when [hopefully] most of my problems are sorted out I'll come back; but if for some reason it doesn't happen then this is the ta-ta.
I say.... As I see, all those above serious reasons seem to not be able to hinder you from still visiting the forum and participating in discussions....

My parents are unsatisfied and so am I. :(

I'm sorry. You gave me one of my best moments and I will always remember this place. And the people too of course. Great people and a great Mom. :)
Keep the Tolkienologist spirit. Thank you for being here, friends.

Goodbye and good luck.

I understand all this, but I want to tell you something.
I don't have a computer at home and I've been a member here for more than two years. You see that it's impossible to be quite regular and active when youd on't know if you can squeeze time to visit an Internet cafe or not.
STILL, I'm part of all this. I'm doing my best to be one. I know that online time can consume much of your concentration, but Findi, believe me---you can spend less time, fix all the things you need to do and STILL manage!
Fight like a brave, girl! You are the champion! Whatever it takes, I know you'll manage with all your missions!!!!!!

I say.... As I see, all those above serious reasons seem to not be able to hinder you from still visiting the forum and participating in discussions....

Like? Perhaps you are talking about the one post I made to correct an error of Eleberth? Hardly discussion.
As for the forums I have been visiting them, but I have taken no part in posting nor do I intend to. I am sick with TTF's policies right now.

Yet... you, and all of us, found them serious enough as to excuse you from the Guild....

You are very keen of accusing other people but I must assure you that unlike you [perhaps?] I am not fond of falslies.
Beleg...... There is no need in all this!!! You want out from the Guild? Fine!.... You're free in your choices! Do whatever pleases you! We're not forcing anyone to stay or go!

That's good, only that YOU are forcing me to go.

But do you think it's fair to come and state that because of personal problems you will not be able to be with us in the guild's activities etc...etc... and yet be able to participate in other discussions.... ?

Take a calming pill and try speaking a bit more rationally.

But I know you have been looking for a way out for some time... It's ridiculous, you know! What's so difficult to openly stand up and say "I am leaving, because I want so"!?!

Because I like this Guild, It had potential, but alas you try to spoil everything.

What's the use of posting anything? Will it be read? No. I read up, research and then post something refuting some arguement and showing it is baseless.
The next time I open the browser I see the same old point thrown up to face as a fact.
And later when I delete my posts, for if no one cares to read them what's the use of them, I am being called an angry teenager.

Well, I have to say Lhunithiel, it is you that is thinking like an angry, and irrational teenager.

There is no fun working under you, you like to post biting sarcastic sentences and wail. That's what you though. There are countless subtle examples of it.
You made FOAT leave when he was doing fabolous work. You criticize people but don't look at yourself.

But what's the use of saying all this to you?
You can't tone down your enthusiasm, you think that those people who aren't as enthusiastic as you are inferior to you.
Thorin said this on MT a long time ago but perhaps you have forgotten.

Anyway, It's done.
I am done with it.
You can rule tyrannically for all you want.

Please calm down Beleg.
You are right about all our efforts to create something good, something nice and the fact that we do it for nothing.

But I think you over exaggerate.About some things.

And about the "teen" problem!Dont feel offended. No,Lhun didn't want to offend you, that's for sure. She meant that the teen years are really strange for everybody and something else...........the teen years are the most beautiful part of your life,of my life,of everybody's life!!!!Don't be offended.

I hope that you and Lhun will meet in MSN and talk about this problem!Because you should solve it .Nobody is completely right,so talk and try to make compromises.Behave yourselves as adults, speak!!
Let me see whether you boh can do it?!ok?
Because I want you back in The Guild and Ant and Findi too.Because we are the heart and the soul of this Guild and without us it will die!

I was about to second Gil-Galad in the "everybody calm down" plea, but I know that some things have been said here that (in my opinion) shouldn't have been said. That's life -- people say things. Let's try to not add to it. I don't know if this means "calming down" -- in view of what was said -- but it means taking the problem to PM's and MSN and other channels.

This is the most impartial comment I could come up with in public... just as I think that some things should not have been said, I don't want to say some things and break my own advice ;).

I like both of you and I'm willing to do whatever is needed to heal this breach. Give me a call ;).

Lhunithiliel
10-15-2003, 06:57 PM
Beleg,
I have witnessed your dislike for long and we have talked about all this. Right?
Have I not expressed myself clearly in those conversations?

I will no more comment on this issue.

I hate to see you leaving (for the second time!). Only this time I'll no more act like your teen-age enthusiastic friend ..or whatever you call me.
In fact, you may call me with whatever names you wish.

I told you before and I'm telling you now:

I don't deal with people who only claim that things are not right without actually doing all their best to do things right!

You can blame me for being an ignorant enthusiast. It's your own opinion. I know for myself exactly how much knowledge and life wisdom I have. And if you have a mistaken view on my behaviour, I'm not to blame. If you don't like it, or if you expect me to act like some "guardian" or a strict "professor" teaching manners to her "inferior" children... you are totally wrong! I am not this kind of a person and inspite of my age, I'll never change. Because I like the company of anyone who is of a mind like mine - a free mind!

As for the "tyrany"..... Well, my friend, this is easily corrected. This is a community of free people with free will and free minds. The moment they find my "tyrany" too heavy, they are free to elect a new Guild Master.
And I suppose that when this happens, you'll be the first one to return!

But I'll tell you one more thing. Master Grond left this place to me (AFTER elections!!!! Don't forget that!!!) and as long as I'm in charge of this Guild, as long the members don't elect another Guild Master, I'll do my best to keep this place functioning.
You're calling this tyrany.
It's your opinion.
I call it responsibility!

Your name is on the List!

From there on it's up to yo - you either act as a Guildsman or you don't. Your choice!

Don't let it destroy what we have here.

I see that the situation is very delicate...and I hope that all the problems will be solved because I adore BOTH Lhun and beleg.
However, this is not inportant, it's important that the Guild, the one that they joined (and all we) and defended needs them to continue to live. Beleg, just think of all the energy you put in this place, of all the effort and enthusiasm! Think of the knowledge this Guild gave you and you gave to it! And it certainly still needs you! As well as Lhun! Please, don't quarrel...I beg you... :(

A School of Art? O.K.
Let's put it in Grond's design pit, which has a good name, both philologically and in reputation.

The building will resemble another that I recall was delved out of a pit, The Eden Project (http://www.edenproject.com/) in Cornwall. This will create maximum light and space for the many Tolkien-inspired works of art that will be displayed.

Can we discuss how to set up the interior? Galleries, of course, but of individual artists or of types of work (eg: portraits, heraldry, weaponry, calligraphy etc.)

I would also like to see photographs of 3D work too (animate it if you have the technology), and if anyone actually makes any weaponry or clothing, photographs please!

It's probably because you've got your 'browsing' set on showing the threads from the last 30 days (or sth like that), Scatha. Try to change it (enrolling menu, near the bottom of the page) and I'm sure it will 'come back';):D.

I passed the test for Sr. Journeyman some time ago, but as I said then, I succeeded at the second attempt... with the same questions... well... to me, it's 'unfair' then to 'boast' with it... I'll stick with my Journeyman rank... try to finish UT and wait for the new set of questions:p

GG, good luck! Which test are you going to take? That 'easy' Expert? Well... piece a cake...;)

Friends, Romans, Guildsmen....,( ;) )

Uhum....

For months there has been going a Debating Tournament on TTF and I am sad to acknowledge the truth that this event seems to have "sucked" all the Guild's activities! While it shouldn't have! The Tournament is a wonderful activity but unfortunately, it has been taken as a comfortable excuse for doing nothing else!

I have been and I am still witnessing very discouraging facts:

>> lack of schollary-approach activities in the Guild:
no discussion opened and attended within the Guild's halls for a lot of time; the Study - freezed; the Gallery going on very slowly and only thanks to G-G's persistence; some good ideas and suggested projects - never initiated ....

>> because of the above, more and more members are losing interest in their membership in the Guild and are either disappearing or leaving

Very troubling! Don't you think?

So, on this day, I am asking you:

What do you think we should ALL do together in order to make this place alive and worth called "Guild of Tolkienology"?!

I count on a maximum and "hot" discussion on the issue. ALL members - invited!

Your "wraith"

Concerning The Gallery,I am starting big changes on Sunday, those who has been late will lose their right to post ther biographies of hte characters they applied for.
As I told you several times,I am preparing something like "inner" debate tournament, for members of our Guild and at least one debate with other Guild monthly.Im just waiting for the end of the Debate Tournament.
Let's say that I will try to make it more interesting here.:)

A debate within the Guild! We hadn't had something like this for ages! At least I didn't see one.

Write me on top of the list, I'd like to do some debating again. That was so much fun in the earlier days of the Guild. I guess the other members will agree and after such a long break it should be quite easy to find people who participate.

But it will be good if we do not stop and lose practise after the tournament is over.:)

Heck yeah, there is a debate. ;) Currently between GoT and GoE, last round event. I haven't enjoyed myself this good so far.

Btw, I am happy to announce that GoE won their first debate.
Our round 9 judging now stands 3-1, with one vote to be cast.

aargh :(

I am unable to take part in the debate after all... I did volunteer but there's just so much to do at the moment... I'm sorry :(

I also won't be taking part in any guild activity until after Christmas, I will be traveling and will have no regular access to internet.
I'm sorry for the extra work for all you other debators, but I'm sure you will do brilliantly anyway!

until later

Well, on a serious "wing-stretch", that's for sure:D. Some work needed my attention in "reality" (I write it in " " cause for me... reality is here). So nearly my whole time online was dedicated to some Maia;).
But I'm back... at least for a little while. I started my little 'come back' with posting that bio of Fingolfin and now I think I'll do some "excavation" in the Guild's activities... see what was happening and stuff;)

Friends, I am not quite sure how to say all I have to say in this post, so I'll do it the simple way:

I have reached a decision to step down from the post Guild Master of GoT.

What I could, I have achieved. The Guild is stable and well running. But........ It's time for changes!

Because of this, we shall have to elect a new Guild Master.

So... we shall have elections.

My nominee is Gil_galad. I hope G-G, you will accept my offer!

I hope the rest of the members will come out with their nominations ASAP. :)

After the nominees are decided, I'll open a poll and we'll have a new Guild Master soon. :)

P.S. I am NOT leaving the Guild! Just stepping down from the post. That's all.

Scatha
11-18-2003, 12:13 AM
Whoa Lhun, why?

If it is not broken, then why try to fix it?
The guild is running well, then why step down?
Unless you cannot afford the time to run it, that is.

Don't get me wrong, I think GG would do a good job.
You ran a tight ship, as I try to in the GoE, but there is so much more you can accomplish here. The most difficult part in running a guild, is to keep the members in while striving to bring in fresh blood. This you have managed to do so far.

So I ask again, why?

Lhunithiliel
11-18-2003, 07:35 AM
Yes, Scatha, you're right! Nothing is "broken".

But it's no big deal that I'm stepping down from the post! I'll still be around.
The Guild's structure is solid now, so G-G (or any other IF any other is suggested!) will not have much difficulty to run what is left as a legacy by Grond and me.
I hope the new Guild Master, whoever he/she is, will find a clear track for new endeavours. I very much hope he/she will do just this!

Gil-Galad
11-18-2003, 08:58 AM
I am shocked.
I am shocked by your decision.

It is a great honour for me to be nominated by you for the coming elections if there are such elections. And I cannote believe I deserve such a nominee.BUT:

I don't want you to leave your position. We all love you and we all know and see that you do the best for The Guild of Tolkienology!!!I don't see any reason to step down from your position!!!!!!!!!We need you!!!You are the heart and soul of our Guild!!!!!You are the most talented, the most respected and capable person among us,and nly such kind of persons should be Guildmasters of the Guild of Tolkienology!!!

I hope that we all will make you change your opinion and stay our beloved Guidmaster!!!!!!
Come guys and boys, let's show her that we don't want her to stepp down!!!!!!!!!

I'm speechless... my arms fall along my body and my fluffy blue angelic wings just seize in astonishment... and...

I'm falling down... I've lost my faith...
I'm falling down... when I die all the angels fade away...

Three o'clock in the morning
It's quiet and there's no one around
Just the bang and the clatter
As an angel runs to ground

Just the bang
And the clatter
As an angel
Hits the ground...

Loneliness was our hunger
.........and stagnancy was our grief.

Peace was our thunder
.........and dust we found in our reef.

Laziness was our labour
.........and love we showed not...

Arguements were our favour
.........and even hatred came along
...I should say a lot...

A flash and we were reborned!
A brightest mind that was our font!
A person that was God!
Tell me, how can we love Her not?!

Now She wants to leave...
bring us back to our grief...
She wants not to be our mother anymore...
but can't you see, thus you'll only dig in our hearts a bore!

Our love will never fade...
Oh, we wish, we wish you stayed...

:( I would miss you, Mum...nobody else will be such a great Mummy like you...What's more, GG would be a Daddy...;)
