'Gandalf, Gandalf! Good gracious me! Not the wandering wizard that gave the Old Took a pair of magic diamond studs that fastened themselves and never came undone until ordered? Not the fellow who used to tell such wonderful tales at parties, about dragons and goblins and the unexpected luck of widow's sons? Not the man who used to make such particularly excellent fireworks! I remember those! Old Took used to have them on Midsummer's Eve. Splendid! They used to go up like great lilies and snapdragons and laburnums of fire and hang in the twilight all evening!'
'Not the Gandalf who was responsible for so many quiet lads and lasses going off into the Blue for mad adventures? Anything from climbing trees to visiting elves - or sailing in ships, sailing to other shores! Bless me, life used to be quite inter - I mean, you used to upset things badly in these parts once upon a time, I beg your pardon, but I had no idea you were still in business.'
This RP will be set prior to the events of The Hobbit and will tell the tale of various young Tooks who, through no fault of there own, set out upon grand adventures under the tutorlage of Gandalf the Grey. We will be doing perhaps four stories, each of them lighthearted and told in a manner similar to that of The Hobbit. If anybody is interested in a role - be sure to let us know. I'm sure parts can be found!!
Excellent idea Turgon! Really sounds fun. :D
Of course I'd like to be involved in these charming Tookish tales. Sign me up for whatever role is needed.
Have anything specific in mind for the first tale? I'd like to hear your ideas. :)

Hmm... the first tale begins just prior to the Battle of Greenfields in the 2747th year of the Third age of the Sun. Or the year 1147 in the Shire Reckoning - whichever you prefer.
:)
The adventure will center around...!?!
Ah... I don't want to give too much away at the moment.
There is a wizard involved after all.
I mean I don't want to be turned into anything - unnatural.

It seems like you want the player to tell a story about their adventure...from the hobbit's point of view...is this what you are looking for Turgon? To make up a story about being a hobbit that goes out with Gandalf on some wild crazy adventure? They could go golfing or something!
I'm game!

Heh!! Golfing is definitely on the agenda!
'Fore!' yelled Bullroarer as Golfimbul's head sailed from his shoulders.
*Scholars, of course, are divided on this quote. Some claim that Brandobras actually intended to yell 'For the Shire!' but at this crucial moment, the Bullroarer's roar failed him, and the words got stuck in his throat.
The idea for the RP as a whole will be much like any other, not stories told by seperate people, but a series of short RP's linked together by Bilbo, who will narrate them. But if you're interested, then sure, welcome onboard.
Hey that is an excellent opening Turgon.
greygilgrim and I will be hobbits I guess? Anyways let me know what you want to play greypilgrim. I just wouldn't want us to end up with the exact same type of characters. :D
P.S. Would 'fore' and 'for' have had a chance though of being homophones in Westron? *evil devil face* I'm just no fun, am I?:p

Actually Nóm you would be surprised - the most famous example I can think of being a prophecy made to the ancient Athenians regarding the Spartans.
It went something along these lines.
War with the Dorians comes, and a death will come at the same time.
There was some debate about this prophecy. (I'm sure it was important at the time) Did the Oracle say Death or did the oracle say Dearth? Death being 'loimos' and dearth 'limos' in the language of the time.
It does happen.
:)
Oh I'm not too surprised really. If you must know I was just giving you a hard time.:p
But that an interesting example you give, and I don't think I remember hearing of anything like it before.

Hullo, lads and lasses!
This sounds like fun. I think I could chip in a couple of posts, if you'll have me. :)

Sure Ithryn, be glad to have you. Should have my next post up soon - as soon as I get over this weekend anyway. Oh... and Nóm, if you have a hobbit profile post it up... not sure if there is a thread for hobbits and the like... but seeing how you began all the other profile threads... :)
I don't have much of a profile yet to be honest. But I probably have enough to start the RP. My hobbit is Tansy Took, daughter of Isenbard and Pansy Took. It was her grandfather Isengrim II, tenth Thain, who began excavating Great Smials. So she's a cousin of Bullroarer. Born 1121 Shire Calender, so she'd be a tween for her adventure here. What I do not have is a nice story for the family history, but maybe I could introduce something in the RP itself later, or would you rather I put it in a profile now?
Perhaps Ithrynluin would like to be a relative of hers? However he knows her, if he knows her, it needs to be incorperated into my profile and perhaps the history of my character, so I'd kind of like to hold back on writing anything out just yet.
As for a profile thread I had just planned to post the profile here. Those other profile threads i started aren't of any use, and I don't plan on using Tansy for anything outside of Tookish Tales so I doubt think hers being posted in a general profile thread is necessary.

I just plan on using a regular old hobbit and following your all's lead...

Sounds interesting. It would be good to read about the adventures of the Took clan especially the two uncles or cousins of Bilbo who disappeared.
