Does anyone know where LOTR will end? Will the ending be Gandalf, Bilbo, & Frodo sailing away to the Grey Havens or Sam sitting @ the table with Rosie saying "its good to be home'" (or whatever he says). Personally, I never liked the ending to the books because I was expecting such a monumental ending and instead all I got was Sam at the dinner table  Oh well, I'm interested to see what will happen on screen.

I don't know, I really love that ending... it's so poignant in its simplicity. After all the great, monumental and epic adventures, Sam returns to his simple home and the book ends with the words "Well, I'm back." That has never failed to make me cry.

Wait.... so Sam gets left behind? That's not exactly fair, now is it!? :)

"1482: Death of Mistress Rose, wife of Master Samwise, on Mid-year's Day. On September 22 Master Samwise rides out from Bad End. He comes to the Tower Hills, and is last seen by Elanor, to whom he gives the Red Book afterwards kept by the Fairbairns. Among them the tradition is handed down from Elanor that Samwise passed the Towers, and went to the Grey Havens, and passed over the Sea, last of the Ring-bearers."

but I feel like I saw somewhere that it will end at the Grey Havens or at least that was the plan. Still a lot of editing and finishing work to do on TROTK.

Harad, you were the one suggesting filming the passing of the entire Fellowship, which is mostly Appendix material. That was certainly not my proposition. I was simply correcting you when you said that Sam did not cross the Sea.

Bad End...hehe.... I think I'll leave that in, it's funny.

I suspect that from the fact that there is, in the New Line Cast Listing for the three films, a credit for Samwise's daughter, we might possibly see Sam telling the story to his child at home with Rosie and the Gamgee tribe...

I found a spoiler pic of Sam running through the gate and Elanor hugging him! The kid seems to be about 5 in the pic....
So, maybe Sam will see Frodo off, come home, and then say his famous line...?

I am 90% sure that the third movie will end with Sam coming home and saying "i'm back" or something like that. Unless they cut it out...hmmm. I've got a picture of Sam with Elanor...i'll share it with u...also i've post a picture of eomer, eowyn, grima wormtongue, shadowfax, and aragorn with Anduril. Enjoy!:)

Also, I am not sure if you can attach multiple files, so if you only see one picture, then i'll just have to post one at a time...

i've read many debates about whether Arwen will be at Helm's Deep...she will. Prove??? here's a picture of her on her horse...Asfaloth (or something). I think she brings Anduril to Aragorn...that's of course my opinion

I dunno... It sure LOOKS like she's been fighting, or at least riding hard.

Yeah, yeah.. Elanor is played by Astin's daughter. How precious is that? (Rolls eyes..)
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Astin was completely miscast? I thought every single actor did an acceptable, if not dead-on job, EXCEPT Astin.
Shoot... Anyone else HATE him playing Sam?
Or am I crazy?

Argh! Why is it always meeeeeeeeee?
I despise the way he switches from US to Scottish to Cockney to Queen's Engish accent.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Anyhow, glad it's only me. That means a zillion people aren't going to be disappointed in TTT and ROTK when his dang role gets really big.
-Why did the asthmatic dwarf run from Lonely Mountain? He heard there was a big Smaug problem there... " Yuk yuk....

I'm looking forward to seeing him in the next two films as he begins to share the burden of the Ring and becomes the strength that allows Frodo to get as far as he did.

As long they don't do something silly like end the movie with the Marriage of Aragorn and Arwen

"And they lived happily ever after till the end of his days.:D

FotR ended with the 3 remaining non hobbits starting their search for Pippin and Merry. Something that happened at the beginning of TTT.
And now everyone is talking about how RotK is going to end. Personally i think theyre going to leave the Scouring of the Shire out.
But how is TTT going to end? If the first movies ending was already different i dont see how the other twos couldnt be.

How do you explain the spikey wheel?

I hope it ends at the Gray Havens. That has always been the real ending for me anyway. Donīt want to see Samīs kids. Children are movie destroyers.

I don't understand the spike thing at all. That is a totally lame idea....."I got it let's skewer him on a big spiky wheel...the nine year olds will really eat that up" UGH

I have heard that it ends with a voice over by Frodo as the ring bearers set off to grey havens. He tells what happens to each member of the fellowship, so i guess the pic of sam with his daughter is shown when Frodo is talking about him, rather the book end. But then again they have more than likely left themselves with a lot of options which will probably all be given on some DVD version and we choose our own. I personally love the fact that the whole thing begins and ends in a Hobbit hole, Bag End at that.

As for Sean Astin i know what u mean, there were bits when he was with Frodo where he looked uncomfortable, but i also thought he had some very good moments "I promised.... a promise" v.good.

Did anybody else notice that in one of the TV specials, the line in Elvish that Liv Tyler chose to speak was the line that Arwen says to Aragorn when he chooses to die? I had to wonder if that was giving away something of the ending...

It sounds like some of you haven't read the rest of the books. Dare I give away the ending? As for the movie, I have read that Saruman does indeed die at Orthanc on a spiky wheel and the Scouring of the Shire is out, the ending ends with a voice of Frodo explaining stuff that is in the Appendicis (Aragorn and Arwen), and probably the stuff that occurs after the Scourging of the Shire.

I didn't mean "the ending of the books", I meant the ending of the movie. Since I HAVE read the books so often, I immediately recognized her line as coming from the Aragorn/Arwen appendix and wasn't sure if others were aware where it came from. The fact that Liv would even know that line must mean that she learned it for the movie, unless she's a huge fan and memorized Elvish just for kicks. Since others were wondering what scenes MIGHT be shown and which would not, I thought it was a clue that at least that part of the appendix was filmed and could be shown in the movie.

That's what I figured you meant, Mithril, but I didn't want to take a chance...Sorry for insulting your allegiance to Tolkien that you wouldn't have read all the books, but there have been people on here who have not read them all, or are in the process of it. Because this is a Tolkien website, I don't recommend people coming on who have not read all the books, lest they get some major spoilers...

One person didn't know the ending and were quite bitter about finding out...Oh well, what can you do?

Last I had heard, Frodo voices over the lives of Arwen and Aragorn that is contained in the appendicis. That is why there are some pictures of Arwen laying in a bed of petals or some sort. I think that is when she goes back to Lorien to live out the rest of her mortal life.

Thank you, you are right...I forget that non-readers would be disappointed about spoilers like that! I'm forgetting my manners again.:)

It's going to be a long wait to find out the ending for sure.
