But nonetheless, being a nostalgic old bore, it is somewhat sad to reflect on how I have met many nice people here, lost in touch with some of them, or how the lives of other people have changed dramatically i.e Nenya getting married, and how my political, religious and other views have been shaped here and by people from this board. It is just somewhat sad to reflect on how quickly it has gone, and one cannot help but recall the old saying "the days pass slowly, yet the years pass quickly."

I didn't make a fuss over my birthday this year, because I never do. But I did just turn 26, and as young as that seems to most people it can feel old when you still haven't taken the first steps in starting your own family... something I've only began to want in the last couple years, but its growing worse. Baragund did I ever tell you that you have one of my old dream jobs of civil engineer? (Along with film-maker, architect, micro-biologist, and athropologist) Hehe, though I've since decided to try to find a job that I can love where years of education (or non-existant talent :eek: ) is not required. I feel a sense of running out of time that I can't escape.

The good thing is I got a one pound bag of beef jerky from a family member, and a hilarious card from ithrynluin. :D

I will be moving to Tennessee next week. I don't foresee when I will be back posting regularly. I have been busy preparing for my move and that has kept me away recently. I had to do some minor shopping, and I remembered to pick up a little glass bear of honey so I can come up with some cram before I go and submit the recipe for our (under-appreciated?) competition. :D

My oldest brother's birthday was just a week before mine, and here is a picture of me and my mother visiting with him at prison (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/410/prisonaugust051eh.jpg).

No reason whatsover, thank you! :D This is my second birthday on TTF, and I still have (sentimental slob that I am) all the screen caps from then!

This year I threatened to pick out my own birthday cake, but my good wife would have none of it. :eek: So I'm driving down to Japanese Town this morning to bring back some Japanese goodies: mochi (beautiful rice-based confections of all shapes and sizes) and those wonderful transparent jelly candies wrapped in edible rice paper (they look something like tiny Jello cubes wrapped in cellophone but dissolve in the mouth).

Next year's going to be a big one though — I'm think of having a double combined Birthday/Halloween party: my 70th with my grandson's 4th — like Bilbo and Frodo (his BD comes ten days ahead of mine). The apartment building's brand new rec room will be long finished by then, and I want to have a lot people in.

I'm putting out the word now: any TTFer living in the L.A. area, lemme know! :)

And thanks so much for the birthday greetings, Ara! The Prancing Pony's entire food and drink menu is free today until closing!

Thank you sir! But three bottles of sake — I'd be on the table — or under it! After we had some of the Japanese treats, we went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica, where we had potato tacos(!) Spanish rice, frijoles refritos and a Margarita, which I didn't finish. I just can't knock back the joyjuice like I used to when I was in my frantic frenzied frenetic 20s! :D

And all through your life make sure you stay healthy and fit! If you accomplish those three things, I daresay you will have a life the envy of almost everyone.

As for the avatar, it's a reduction of a holiday greeting card made by the folks I work for, the Virginia Dept. of Transportation. On the left is a glass Christmas tree ornament with a picture of a VDOT snow plow on it and on the right, it says "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let is Snow". I was afraid the reduction of the image to avatar size would make it illegible.:(

Curious; you wrote I "finally" have an avatar. I've always had one. Previously, it was an image of the moon setting over Tarn Aeluin in Dorthonion (in keeping with my user name).
