The J.R.R. Tolkien Audio Collection [ABRIDGED] , by JRR and C Tolkien, is available at Amazon.com, at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0694525707/104-9703626-9620704!!!

Hear him read his own works, doing his inimitable impressions of Tom Bombadil and Gollum!

From a review:

"This collection consists mainly of historic readings by J.R.R. Tolkien, made in the 1950s.The sound quality of the oldest recordings isn't very good, but it's nevertheless interesting to hear Tolkien's characterizations of his own soon-to-be-famous characters. Those expecting Tolkien to sound like a dowdy professor will be surprised when they hear the gusto and bluster he brings to the mighty Tom Bombadil and the sinister glee he injects into the voice of the evil cave-dwelling Gollum. The collection is rounded out by newer recordings of the author's son, Christopher, reading from his father's works."

I just now ordered mine! :D

Well, I may not be the best person to talk to ... I put on all 4 CDs on the player, set it to SHUFFLE format and let 'er rip. The net result was that I fell asleep for about 3 hours! So if you get this collection, I recommend you only play one or two tracks from one CD at a time!

I have this on cassette, and will buy it on cd soon...I was thrilled to hear Tolkien himself say names I had been pronouncing...and I was right! I remember listening to a bbc recording once and they kept saying gulloom, and it made me crazy. He really was a fabulous story teller...and who better to tell his own fantastic tale?!!!;)

I have a recording of him reading the 'Riddles in the Dark' chapter of the Hobbit - it is amazing!

I bought this collection five or six years ago. It is the best Tolkien Audio set that I know of. It's great to hear the maker read from his own creations!

Disc 1 has Professor Tolkien reading from the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It's really amusing to hear him act out Gollum's parts. Yes, Gollum sounds just like you think he would!

Disc 2 is read by Christopher Tolkien. Christopher also has a great speaking voice and it makes the epic he edited come to life!

I am grateful that these recordings are even available for purchase!
