Greetings, all. It does not seem to me to be that many are achingly excited about joining my Recipe For Power R. P. G. thing, so here is another idea. The title should tell you something about the story. I'm sure that I could come up with a better name, though. You do not have to rhyme to post.

For people to be joining, I am looking for an achingly varied group. Representatives of all kinds of races, even some of the crazier and more dangerous or less known, not just Dwarf, human, and elf. Ick. Your characters will have to be stuck on the remnants of that large chunk of Middle Earth that was destroyed by the evil Valar while they evilly messed with poor Mel. Many different little chunks of land, many different people barely surviving, having to band together to survive, trying to figure out how to find a mainland type of area, not that they would know that it would still exist, of course.

Much opportunity for character development and answers to many of those versus questions, but more about many different types having to help each other out to keep living. That sounds achingly interesting and things, yes? I believe so. Toss your profiles at me.

I wouldn't mind having a role here is a goblin, if goblins would fit in.

I don't know where to start with a profile, since I don't know what other characters would be in this in order to figure out what the story might be like and then make his history fitting for it.

Well you've seen what my goblins are like in The Plundered Pint.
The problem is, how good are they at working together? Maybe they wouldn't fit in this.

Well, what other character? How about some big kind of fish or sea mammal that brings news to some elf or animal-loving type? Maybe sent around through small passages ships can't get into to scout things out and look for others? But that sounds like a boring role... I'm tired of trying to play good guys. Well maybe I could be a dog of osme kind, I love dogs, maybe the dog/wolf of an evil master who breaks away from the master in some kind of rebellion and joins the effort to survive?

Let me know if any sound like they might work or if you want some fickle confusticated player in this and have something different in mind, and I can then write a proper profile if that is okay?

Hm. I have no problem with the goblin idea besides that I'm not sure if they even existed back in the First Age. But then, my crazy idea is that the Orcs get a lot less powerful and creepy and strong and things after Mel got tossed out. I would much encourage an Orcish type of character. I planned on playing one of my own if noone else did.

Anyways, what you call a problem, I call an opportunity for more interesting character development. I seek many different types of personalities and conflicts going on. How much fun would it be if the story merely starred a bunch of sickeningly perfect elves? Not much, is my insane opinion.

Also, yes, the big kind of fish or sea mammal idea does sound like it would be a boring character to play. And I despise dogs and wolves and things. Either would be a cool character if I saw an interesting profile, though. The more unique usually equals the better character.

I don't know what other characters will be in this thing, either. *looks around for volunteers* That's not cool, man. Where is everyone? oh well. I could bring in my Orc character, my Nandor, a Dark elf, maybe a Dwarf and a human. For his history, he would probably have to be nowhere near the titanic battle of this War Of Wrath thing. Unless he happens to have an achingly cool story for how he lived through it.

Cool, put me down for an orc. I could be a sneaking cowardly one who ran from the War when he saw defeat was coming. Or I could be more of a leader type, but if you're going to have an orc character I guess you could be the leader one if that is what you have in mind.

I'll still wait until more is known before writing a profile. I would especially need to know where at in the crumbling Beleriand I am, in this way I could write a history for why I am at that location at the time things start falling apart.

I wonder how much orc's effort is spent on surviving and how much on giving trouble to the good guys? I guess it would be set up so that orcs need what the elves have in order to survive. Food and tools maybe? Or perhaps the orcs are so far out-numbered that is it all a matter of escaping the elves or whichever enemies esist?

Got it. You could play whichever type of Orc character that interests you the most. My Orc character is achingly evil and self-centered and weaselly, though. Why would I play a leader type of Orc? Ick. So boring. I play the authentic average Joe Orc character! oh well.

I would want the characters to start out in different bits of land leftover from the War Of Wrath. As far to the east of the part that was destroyed as possible, since I doubt that much was left where the main battle was taking place. Anyways, I can't tell where most of your character's interests will lie until I see what sorts of interested people show up with what sorts of characters. If I only have a bunch of people who want to play Orcs (which I doubt very much since elves are so much more popular *sniff*), I'll probably toss in a few characters of my own who will hate them, but the advantage will clearly be with the Orcs and they'll force the others to do most of the work or maybe even eat them or something.

I would want things to be achingly even, though, of course. It would be much more interesting when the characters are forced to help each other out. I do not wish for this to be a happily ever after sort of story, though. The characters would very likely wish to kill each other or at least spit at them and head in different directions once they get to the mainland. But then, who knows how the personalities will interact?

Your guess that it would be set up so that conflicting personalities would need to help each other out with food and tools and things is correct. Both would be very scarce. One character could wash up on one bit of land with more useful items than another, but they'll all have to need each other. I foresee more than one group of unfortunate individuals grumbling and barely cooperating. One large group of survivors would be too unlikely, but sure, some could meet up and things. Did I already say that? I don't know. Any other questions? Perhaps I should toss down all possible profiles that I could use to help you people out just to give you people ideas for conflicting personalities? I would not want to limit things to merely elves and Orcs.

Thanks, I think I see what you're looking for here.

No other questions at the moment.

I don't know if profiles will bring in more players or not, couldn't hurt.

Got it. I love my profiles so much! Although, I would not be at all surprised if some scared people away.

Name: Boffin

Race/Sex: Dwarf/Male

Appearance: defitely more fat than muscle on him, too sickeningly innocent looking to look very smart, blue eyes most often looking off into space, golden hair, long and not very neat beard, colorful clothes that might look good at a formal dinner under a not very well made coat of mail (the clothes are under that, not the dinner), has an outrageous looking helm that was only used by his ancestors in ceremonies

Personality: absent-minded, loyal, friendly to pretty much anyone, sickeningly innocent, admires elves, is embarrassed and self-conscious in front of most Dwarves. He makes me sick most of the time.

Weapons: just a mace and dagger, sorry

History: born to a rich family in the Blue Mountains, he was given some expensive tutors, but he wasn't a very fast learner and was just embarassing the other Dwarves by being around, so he was eventually cast out of the mountain to learn some common sense, ran into an adventuring group of elves and humans, helped them out, learned to appreciate elf type stuffs, found out that he had a talent for understanding what they had to teach, learned a few of their languages, hung out with them for a while, and avoids heading back home by visiting as many elves as he can, around the time of this story, he'd be wishing that he had gone back home sooner and be beating himself up about being so useless as a Dwarf

__________________________________________________ ____________

Name: Bugburz

Race/Sex: an Ainur of adaptability/Male

Appearance: short, hunched over, and weaselly looking dude, black skin, big nostrils, nasty teeth, sharp eyes, wears brown rags and black Orc-mail

Weapons: scimitar

History: showed up in that Void type place, sang along but wasn't very sociable, wandered down to that Arda place just to check everything out, avoided contact with other Ainur mostly so he could discover everything uninterrupted, he was nearing the end of his exploration of Middle Earth when he showed up just in time to see some elves showing up, he didn't get why so many of the Ainur were taking on the physical forms that they were, and since he knew that these guys weren't Ainur, he became one of the Teleri types of them and integrated himself easily, had fun with watching them discover and learn and invent things, hung out with them for so long that he got really used to his body and never used any evil and unfair powerses that a normal Teleri wouldn't have, he was captured along with plenty of others and turned into a large Orc, since he was so used to the body, it was as easy to corrupt him as it was to corrupt the others, he had never used any of his powers or talked with any other Ainur, so he didn't know any better and ended up in some big group of Orcs that eventually had to fight Noldor, the corruption wasn't very fun for him, but he grew to enjoy being evil, never used any powers that a normal Orc wouldn't have, got seriously injured in one of his first fights with Noldor and reflexively turned back into his spirit form, he then decided that working for Mel was too dangerous, so he went exploring again, since he had gotten so used to being an Orc, he thought he was being original when he turned himself into his current form of a much smaller Orc made for tracking, he hiked until he found a suitable Orc type encampment that he could incorporate himself into and tried to lay low with many unimportant Orc scout types, about the time of this story, he would not be so grateful to be alive, think that he's very close to dying

Personality: very fun, mostly ranting and grumbling to himself, resents authority but isn't stupid enough to rebel, likes to flee instead of fight, he hates all animals, is very disappointed with the fact that Orcs seem to be killed way too easily and has decided to distance himself from all of them when he has the chance, he likes to think that he's in a clan of his own and has no problem with killing anyone who messes with him

__________________________________________________ ______

Name: Vorolas

Race/Sex: Nandor type elf/Male

Personality: stubbornly, aggressively, and sometimes obnoxiously curious, but mostly about the few things that interest him (flora and fauna), always eager to learn more even though he thinks he's an expert, would much rather talk about his findings than anything else, takes people for granted, is easily distracted and often wanders off alone, usually oblivious to the things happening around him when he's concentrating

Appearance: Long and unkempt white hair that he apparently doesn't care to kempt, I guess. He's got an average type height and a weak build since he cares more about knowledge than strength. Could be confused with old humans except that he'd be more energetic looking. Beautiful green eyes since those are my favorite. Anything else? Hm. He goes around with bare feet. He wears greens and browns.

Weapon: a flint dagger

History: born someplace in Eriador back when the boring elves were still migrating all over the place, he had all kinds of fun when everyone was waking Ents up but quickly became bored and had to discover something else, he migrated with the rest of them, but when they finally settled down somewhere, he kept moving and was eventually caught by some Orcs and made to work for Mel, since he was worked so hard, he got the appearance that he has, he escaped in a story that I have yet to write and which would take up too much space here, anyways

Just a couple more. I could stretch the usual natures of some of my other characters, if anyone who reads my entire profile thread  would prefer.

Name: Parvus

Race/Sex: Dragon/Male

Appearance: long and thin and snake-like, longer than your average horse but shorter, has small black scales, yellow eyes, pathetic looking nubs where wings should be, long and thin and clever fingers with small claws.

Weapons: just his teeth and claws and tail. I guess you could count his poisonous breath, but that would only kill someone if they hung around him for a while, it could just make people woozy at first.

Personality: cautious and nervous and weaselly. Very fun. Always thinking that people are out to get him just because he's a dragon. Nervous around anyone who might look anywhere near threatening. Around people who aren't, he'd just be nice and playful.

History: a very young dragon born in the mountains around Utumno, his parents were the big and scary and fire-breathing and winged types, when his parents were disappointed in him and his siblings felt like eating him, he crawled away and was discovered by a very stupid human who is just here to move things along and raised him on the outskirts of some settlement, that guy conveniently died for the sake of this history because of the poisonous breath and Parvus had to leave before anyone found him, now he wanders around Middle Earth with nothing better to do but steal whatever food he can find since there aren't many safe places for him.

__________________________________________________ __________

Name: Tulofuin

Race/Sex: Teleri type elf/Female

Weapon: just a parrying shield named Hurthang. I hope that this works ---> http://www.renfaires.com/item.asp?pid=M9474It's one of those black and talking things made by Eol, of course. It likes getting her to run off and kill Noldor type elves.

Personality: Scary and independent and things. Very stubborn and strong-willed and forceful and things. Quiet and pensive and sad and reminiscing a lot of the time. Very proud and tough and unemotional and things. Naturally shies away from people, especially other elves. Definitely a night person. That's as close as I can get it.

Appearance: Average sized? Why not? Long and black and achingly beautiful hair. Green eyes, since those are the best. I guess you could call her a dark type of beauty, but only if she tried, and she wouldn't. She'd wear old and simple and practical type clothes that she made herself just for traveling. The shield would be under some cloak type thing.

History: born in whichever forest it was that Eol ran away from when that evil Melian lady put some scary magical barrier around it, she was raised to be one of his servants. When that Aredhel lady decided to mess things up, and Eol ran off, she waited for him for a while but finally decided to try finding the guy. She took the dark type weapon that she had been given for protection if she was ever off doing something for the guy by herself. Around the time of this story, she'd very probably think that Eol didn't survive all of that and might be a lot more inclined to let Hurthang do the thinking.

any chance I can join? I think it would be interesting to play a troll or maia spirit or something... I don't know. It seems you have many of the species i was thinking of having a role in already...

well, I suppose I'd better post a profile then. It won't be as insanely long or detailed as YayGollum's (but then whose is?):

Name:Tarkild

Age: who knows? middleaged for a troll.

Race/Sex: Mountain troll/female

Appearence: about 9 1/2 foot tall, skin like gravel, larger and more agressive than the male types. has a mane of straggly hair that runs from her forehead to halfway down her back. Clothes? well I suppose she'd have the usual loincloth that seems so popular with trolls. some ratty bits of leather armour, left over from the war.

Weapons: a huge mace, 6 feet long (i know it's a cliche, but what other weapons can she have?)

*I'll finish it later, I have to go and do some chores*

Sure, you can join, Luthien Elenese person. Why not? But then, how long could a troll survive in this sort of scenario? There could be one great scene with this achingly interesting troll character, and then, whoops, the sun comes up. It was such a cool character, too. I shall cry for her. I have no idea. Maybe you have a way around the sun. Or you could make up a not so terrifyingly overpowered lesser Ainur type of thing. There are many crazy directions you could go with that. Either of those are good. Also, the profiles that I tossed were just ideas for what I would use if I had to. I would love enough interest so that I would only have to play one or two characters.

Sure thing, Alatar person. Have fun with it. After that, though, I am concerned that these last two profiles might be suggesting one-dimensional characters. Look at the simplicity of their profiles! But oh well. Both of these characters look like lots of fun, anyways.

Well, you can if you want to. If that is what would be the most fun for you. But I doubt that that would be the case. I know that some people don't write too much in their little profile things. At least not when they don't know the character too well yet. What I wrote was not intended to be an insult sort of thing. Of course.
