Hi all,

I bet you didn't think you would see me back here again after my very long departure. I'm kind of surprised that I returned myself. But I'm motivated and I have a pretty interesting idea for a rpg if anyone else is game.

The story takes place during the third age, in the year S.R. 1147 (2747), leading up to the Battle of Greenfields, the only battle in the Shire's history (prior to the Battle of Bywater), foughtwhere Bandobras Took routed an invasion of Orcs out of the Shire. The story begins 6 months prior to the orc attacks and follows the adventures of a rather unusually curious Fallohide Hobbit who ventures out of the Shire to find answers to the questions about the world outside the Shire that his forefathers are not able answer.

The first characters that will be needed for this tale will be Hobbits...but I would encourage that everyone involved take on other roles as the story progresses.
This is a serious RPG story, with a lighthearted attitude.
I am not going to make strict rules, but I do encourage you to stay in character (no OOC outside of this thread), and please stay true to the plotline. I also would encourage you to communicate with each other here on the direction of the plot so that no one will get lost.

Any questions?

Hiya Elbereth, it sounds like an interesting idea.

Do you envision these ventures to be adventures? :p Something like a quest without a definite destination in mind? Or perhaps going to Rivendell as the place of lore, though then again Elves are known to be concerned mostly with their own histories. Bree and the Tower Hills may also prove to be interesting destinations, but I suppose we can figure this out one step at a time.

Do you have an approximate number of companions for your hobbit, or as many people as show interest?

Is this to be a strict Tolkien rpg? What I mean by this is no fantastical sorcerer hobbit with lycanthropy that dual wields +5 sauron slaying daggers, with magical mithril chainmail? Are these to be your standard tolkien hobbits and characters? If so, I am in if you will allow me to be, if not, I will have to think about it. Also might want to put a blurp up here about character profiles.

I am pretty sure she means the latter. I would have no interest in RPing in the former either, because that is not Middle-earth for me.

Yes of course I mean the latter. I'm basing my information from the information given in the prologue and in the Appendices regarding Hobbit history.
The hobbit's quest will begin as a pilgrimage to learn more about what he/she had learned in the tales her grandparents told about the elves and kingdoms of Men. One should bear in mind that during this time in Hobbit history, Hobbit had only been in the Shire for a short time...and although isolated, they would still have some interaction with Men of the North Kingdom who were still lords over that the land. This was a volatile time in Middle Earth, orc raids, warewolves, and other creatures lurking about, which could make for a very interesting adventure.

I would like to start the adventure with a companion (either a Hobbit, or a Man....maybe a Dunedain who had past through the Shire) Rivendell, is a good suggestion for a destination.

Note that if all goes well with this rpg....it will lead us back to the Shire, just in time for the Battle of Bywater. Which I think would be interesting to fill in the details and gaps of that Battle.

Well that is all for now...I will try to pull together a profile soon so that we could begin. I am open to suggestions and appreciate participation.
