All profiles and other such things for 'Return to the Shire' may go here.
I'll just toss this to the wind and we'll see if either it flies or comes back to hit me in the face. Hoping of corse for the first...
Some of us thought it would be fun to go back to the Shire, so here it is. Anyone that wants to offer a profile, idea(s) or anything else is welcome to post here or private message me... The first might be best here as well. :)
What is the point, you ask? Well... I can only say that the real point of any game anywhere is the same here. Have fun! :D

I think I'll wait a while to develope a profile. If things aren't trucking along as they should I'll create a starter profile to use until we get more participation.

I'm thinking I'll just go at it and see where I gets me. Forget half of what you find here and figure out half of what was never said. This is nearly all inapplicable at the current time.
All editing looks like this because I feel like being ridiculous.
-------------------
Name: Kirra
Race: Mostly human
Age: Between 18 and 24
Place of birth: In a wagon
Looks: Dark (black) hair that would hang to her waist if not for being braided tightly out of her way. Dark green eyes. Not heavily built but not really skinny. Wears brown leggings under a rag patched skirt that only goes just past her knees; time softened leather boots and a comfortable green top. ((still not all that happy))
Some stuff owned: Old clothes; bundles of herbs; a small dagger...
What she might be like: well... how would you know unless you get to know? hm?
Cus some like to know: Born on the road; long time traveler; now lives in and around the Shire...
--------
um.... yeah... workin' on it... as you can see...

Changing! See updated in a later post!

Perfectly fine by me. ;) :D
Good to have you here Rai! *rubs hands together* Any thoughts we should hear?

Alright! I'm in, of course!
Wonder who's idea this was? ::laughs:: Go Ara for pulling this together!
I'm working on a profile....give me a little time...but I'll be back!!

I'm not a very big fan of profiles myself. Afterall, you don't know everything about a person on your first meet do you? I shall go to my dark corner of Nowhere and produce a mundane profile to humor you.
AraCelebEarwen
03-27-2006, 05:14 AM
hm... Yeah. I'm thinking I'll just toss that profile over my shoulder and see what I get when it hits the ground.
*looks around* Well now. All this commotion about getting the RPs going again and yet not many pokeing their noses in here? Interesting indeed. Did we miss something, or just not put out enough bait?... *grins*
*leans back to put feet up and enjoy a quiet drink* ah well. Maybe we've just added to the bone-yard once more. I do hope not though.

hm... If I put it enough places, maybe someone might find or remember it... *mumbling to self* What if I put it in me sig thing? That could work. Yes. Yes, it could! But what if there's simple on one around enough?... No. No, even we aren't able to get all too much now-a-days...

::dances:: My research paper is finally done and I've got like 5 more hours before my product is done!! Yay!! I've found time again!
Sorry about being gone for random intervals of time...I've just been so busy lately!!! ;_;
okay...I'll try a profile, I haven't had much time to think of one...I'll probably change the profile later on, but here's a rough sketch:
name:Cecilia (Lia for short)
Race: human
Age: 20
Looks: Short, choppy dark hair that's comes no farther down then to her chin. Icy blue eyes constrast to a fairly dark complexion that's come from her many days out in the sun. A loose fitting tunic and pants are covered by a brown traveler's cloak.
Weapons: A sword straped under the cloak to her back, which has an ivory handle with celtic carvings. A small dagger also resides in her right boot.
She's more then just a wanderer, she's a mercenary, a "sword for hire" as some would say, but does not always do assination jobs...She's arrived at the Shire on one of her jobs.

Hey Arlina. :) Sounds interesting. Will be really cool to see how you play her. I have to say though, I was a little surprised to see you brake from playing a younger girl. I like it though. Don't get yourself in a rut. Good job. Looking forward to seeing where this could go.
Except for a few things, I don't think I can put a profile on Kirra just yet. Try to stick with me. I'm just going to play her and see how it works out. =^.^=

Hey, no prop. I haven't decided who my character's bounty is just yet, ie: a random character, your's or someone else. I guess I need to decided soon though =^.^=
Yeah, I wanted to do something different then my younger characters, something more bolder and different. Most of my characters are totally different then my true personality, and this one is no different. I needed a way to channel some anger I'm feeling towards certain people, and this seemed like a good way to do it.
I hope you don't mind me straying from my usual young characters. =^.^= Have fun with your character and everything will fall in place!!

If you need someone to have a bounty on their head for your character, Arlina person, I have plenty of personalities to look at. ---> http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?t=17410 Anyways, here ya go. I was bored. You people were looking for more players. A trio that I haven't even used yet. --->
Name: Ornipiryakano
Race/Sex: Vanyar type elf/Male
Appearance: Tall and blonde and blue-eyed and sickeningly honest and open and innocent faced. Probably wears some normal human type clothes. I'm not a huge expert on them. They'd be simple and comfortable and newly bought.
Weapons: just a rapier that he holds unsteadily.
Personality: Well, sickeningly honest and open and innocent. Also, very uneducated with commonplace Middle Earth type things. Assumes that everyone is good since the Valar types defeated Mel. Things like that. Likes to sing and dance, but mostly when he's praising gods at the same time.
History: born in that Valinor place around the time that Numenor was gotten rid of. He saw the humans showing up as a little kid and wanted to get to know them since he had no idea what they were like. Of course, they were taken care of, and he remained curious. He ended up getting to be good friends with a few adventurous Teleri types. Even though they were told not to mess around with the humans, they got a little too close to a corsair type ship which sunk theirs. He was the only one who survived (conveniently enough for me) and washed ashore where he wandered around until he found some friendly types who'd help him out. He quickly picked up Westron by way of listening to Gondorians.
__________________________________________________ _____________
Name: Uquasino
Race/Sex: Pygmy Noldor type elf/Male
Appearance: About the size of a hobbit, maybe a little shorter, he'd be a very impressive looking dude if he was full sized, but oh well, the tallest of the Pygmies (since I don't run into very many fans of such things), strong and muscly, armour made of pieces of giant spider, long and straight and black hair, dark eyes
Weapons: a trident and net, for fighting giant spiders
Personality: Achingly and grimly determined about things, has a gigantic ego, thinks that anyone who doesn't trust him and toss large gobs of faith at him is crazy because he is obviously the greatest elf of all time, far too stubborn for most people
History: Was once a respected elf in Gondolin, got sent on a mission from Turgon to try to make contact with the Valar types, his ship crashed on one of those magical islands, he and his crew all floated to the Dark Lands where they have been fighting off giant spiders ever since, they used to look up to him, too, but after his failure as a captain and a few bad decisions dealing with giant spiders, he was disgraced and Outcasted, he was finally caught by giant spiders, but one saved him and they survived together until they were rescued and taken to Middle Earth
__________________________________________________ _______________
Name: Exfoliant
Race/Sex: Giant spider/Male
Appearance: A giant ogre-faced spider, also known as one of those net-casting spiders, it would probably be about the size of Shelob (I think that she should have been bigger in that movie, but oh well) from the movie, maybe a little smaller. ---> http://www.xs4all.nl/~ednieuw/australian/Deinopidae/Deinopidae.html
Weapons: whatever you consider a spider's usual weapons, no significant poison, though
Personality: the evil mastermind type, but he's lazy like me, too, grand plans that he talks to people about sometimes, openly talks about being evil and eating people and taking over things, but has no ambition at all, he only helps the Pygmy out to get back at the other giant spiders and because he listens and wants to suck his creative juices out
History: Born in the Dark Lands to a family pretty high up on prestige pointses, they ruled a large chunk of the Dark Lands, but were overthrown and killed, he's one of the last of his kind left and mostly stuck to stealing and hiding close to the elves, he found out about an Outcasted one and decided to seek him out, he finally found him caught by some type of really scary giant spider, he somehow freed the guy and helped him live a lot longer, they were both taken aboard the a ship and now wander Middle Earth in search of the Pygmy Noldor's relatives

*trys to catch him before he hides* So are you saying that you could play one of them here? You'd be welcome to. Otherwise I'll go with an idea I had and bring in another char of mine and play both of them. *shrugs* Just trying to get an idea about how it's looking. Would have nothing against a few others jumping in with ideas and faces an all. Just something fun to play at.
I'll not even do a profile this time. Don't feel like it. You'll know what you need to and can figure out the rest with time and such.

04-18-2006, 08:45 AM

Sure thing. Although, I was mostly asking you to choose one or more of my characters to be the target slash targets so that we could then come up with a good reason for why a bounty hunter would be after them. But then, oh well. Do you already know what my three characters in there have done and who posted the bounty, or did you just choose to come after them and haven't figured much us out yet? I mostly ask so that I can know what who they annoyed, since they would probably know already. Sure, I could make suggestions.
Arlina
04-21-2006, 03:41 AM
Well, I was thinking that the bounty would be on your giant spider, Exfoliant, however, I was thinking that my character would be like: "Well, if one of them has a huge bounty, and if he's hanging around with some others, then they might also be worth some money."
But then again....haven't much decided. Suggestions are very welcome!! Please, make up my mind! :p
Thanks again for joining us!! =^.^=

Got it. Does anyone know when this version of the Shire is set? I see a couple of humans around, so I would guess that it is at some point much later in the Fourth Age, since even seeing something that wasn't a nasssty hobbit in the Shire place was rare before that. Which might mess up my the first idea that came to my brain for why anyone would post a bounty on my Exfoliant character. ---> An elf (which is a race known for hating spiders, since Ungoliant) who was too arachnophobic to deal with the problem for himself decided to hire your character to kill him, since he automatically assumes that all giant spiders are out to suck all of his light and gemstones away.
Other ideas for why anyone might be out to get poor Exfoliant (The guy isn't especially confrontational. Many think of giant spiders and automatically assume that they have to be pure evil, but are not Ungoliant and Shelob known for their neutrality? oh well.):
Some rich dude from any place that you wish was offended when his two-year-old daughter turned up dead, with all of the tastiest bits chewed out. Since this group isn't the type to care about maintaining low profiles, many pointed out that a giant spider happened to be in town at the time. This guy assumed that it was to blame. Sure, he would be right. Sure, that may make Exfoliant seem evil. sorry about that. A guy has to eat, yes? oh well. The bounty hunter would have been hired to capture it and bring it back to him while alive.
The same sorts of things, except less offensive, since, in this version, Exfoliant ate some of the tastiest bits off of a prize-winning bull or something.
The bounty hunter character could have been famous enough to have been recognized by a random hobbit while in the Shire area. Since she happened to be around and the guy had already seen Exfoliant, he could still be hysterical enough to hire her just to get the thing out of the area.
Some arachnophobic type has been tailing the group for a while, attempting to conquer his fear and kill the thing, but after running into your character at some point, he decided that hiring you to catch it for him would be much safer than attempting to subdue it for himself.
A rich and eccentric scholar type hired the bounty hunter to catch and deliver Exfoliant to him, so that he can study it. Would not an expert on crazily legendary things wish to run a few experiments to see how cool those giant spider things could be? I think so.
Also, sure thing, as to me showing up here. It has been a while since any of my characters have visited the nasssty hobbitses of this Shire place.

I think this is my favorite suggestion that you've come up with. I think it makes more since to go along with what I was thinking for my character.
Thanks for coming up with some wonderful suggestions, I don't think I would have ever come up with some of the things that you've suggested.
Ara, do you have anything to add? Is everyone okay with this choice? Anyone got anything to say? How is everyone? Good I hope? ...questions, questions, quesitons....haha

Yikes! Well, if you were that bored, why didn't you just make a post in the thread? Asking if the idea was okay with everyone wasn't necessary. It's a lighthearted thing. I want to join, however, before I post a profile for my character, I want to know some things:
> Is this an open RPG?
> What is the timeline?
> What is the plotline?
> Where are you guys now and what is happening in the story so far?
If I am allowed to join, thanks. If not, no worries, I understand perfectly well if a new character would divert the story too far.

Interesting profile Morgoth. um... *shrugs and lets a thought pass* Have fun.
Narya; this is an open RPG. I don't know that we set a time as of yet and there isn't exactly one set plot. You are quite welcome to read the thread and see if you find anything you would like to use, but it isn't set up to be anything specifically. You're more then welcome to join!
When I started the thread, it was with the idea of making somewhere for people to start or work with a character and the idea of RPing on a simpler and more relaxed level. It was also planed to be a place for anyone and everyone to come and have a little fun in the land of the Hobbits. More experienced RPers can kind of let their hair down or help out the 'newbs' by messing... I mean working with them. :D hehehe
Anyone that's looking here, you don't have to have a profile set here to start out, although it would be nice to know a little about those we're writing with for the sake of making thing a little easier on the rest of us. :)
Questions always welcome. =^.^= Have fun y'all!

Well I wasn't meaning that exactly... :)
I think I was only trying to say something about how I've seen you play roles like that before. The immortal and untouchable seems to be to your liking but some find that it can be kind of hard to work with in some ways. I hope you don't mind a little friendly input; but 'no one's perfect' is something to keep in mind when RPing. Things are not only more interesting but more 'real' if there is something 'wrong' with a character. Something that makes them who they are. It may be something like a weakness (and in some cases that same thing can become their strength).
Here. Think of someone you admire enough to work from. Be it someone in Tolkien's writing or anyone, anywhere else. Now, they have a lot going for them, right? But now look a little closer. What are their quirks? Everyone has them.
And yes, you are still just as welcome to join. =^.^= I's here to help. *bows*
Just a side note: I like that he can change at will. :D Something like what I've been known (or not *shrug*) to work into a few my profiles. hehehe
YayGollum
07-03-2006, 01:17 AM
I didn't see the AraCelebEarwen ask you to edit anything, and I only asked a question. oh well. I agree that playing the sickeningly perfect and somehow unbeatable type characters makes no sense. You can always add another power, so that they are never surprised or in danger or anything conflict-, id est, plotworthy. Boring. How crazy would someone else's character have to be to actually become buddies with such a creepy thing? I'd always be suspicious of what the thing's motivations were. oh well.
Also, I hate the fact that it can change into any form at will. How many things do that? Only those shapeshifty things that worked for Mel, as far as I know. Sauron changed into a few things, too, but the Ainur of time that this character is supposed to be has nothing to do with shapeshifting. Ainur type things take the forms of things that have to do with their personalities, not so much what would be the most convenient for a particular situation or what mood they happen to be in.
For some really old and intelligent type, I would think that the common old looking person would be applicable. Probably elf looking, since that seems to be what most of the Ainur types decided to look like. Maybe human. Or, if you felt like going more along the idea that he's a creepy Ainur related to time, you could choose a race and give the guy the ability to shift between any age of whatever his form is. But then, that seems to be along the lines of him breaking his own rule. He showed up and, along with a couple of other time Ainur, stuck some unbreakable ropes to the sun and moon, as far as I can remember, making certain that time always worked the way it was supposed to.

hmmm... Good points Yay... *takes notes*
oh. And...a... for the record; I've not really done anyone that could change to anything at any time... I'm one that has fun with the whole shape shifting thing, but if you were to look at my most used profile, you'd find that Olheri (my young female 'Meoigwaith') can change to the form of a large cat as per her race; but it saps her of energy too quickly to be used too much or at just any time.

Well.... I like to edit, so ha, Ha, HA.
Err anyway, Ara, I would like to thank you, as well as YayGollum, for the suggestions. But, (YAYGOLLUM!!!) we are all entitled to our opinions as you can see. You have yours and I have mind. To tell you the truth, I had an idea when I first started to make my RPG Character. You see, as time would pass by, and after traversing all the lands of Middle Earth, and meeting other TTF'ers RPG characters, Aluin would come to see what a bossy, perfect person he had been and realize that, no matter how great and glorious someone was, they could become jerks, bossy, self-centered jerks. If you have seen my posts for my RPG in earlier inn's and such, you could've have noticed how annoying he was and such, but in my later posts, he starts to warm up to others and his "big shot" attitude, starting to slackening.
Basically, as time would go by, he would learn a lesson in humility.
BUT I saw what a bad rep I obtained in the RPG's with Aluin have his personality the way it is, so I decided that this idea of mine was to, To, well... bad of an idea, and anyway, it was starting to tick even me off seeing my character act the way... well, you get it. And anyway, the idea was getting to complicated. And the fact that I'm lazy.
I have decided to change a few things about my RPG, and don't worry, this shall be my LAST update.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Known as Salman or Solomon, but true alias is Aluin
Race: Ainur of time,
Age: Timeless (He is!) Looks like he's in upper-teens to young adult.
Place of birth: N/A (Beyond the void)
Personality(new one): Very funny, likes to smile a lot. In the beginning he was prideful and boastful, but as time goes on, learns to act with more humility. Loyal, strong (think Superman), Corageous, noble, wise at the best (and I mean best) of times, but stupid most of the time (not!.. well, it's kinda true, but he ain't that stupid, more arrogant) and if you let him keep rambling he can start to get annoying.
Height: 6'11"
Hair Color: Black
Skin color: Tannish Brown
Eye Color: Black
Micellanious: Carries a light, mithril staff, straight as a willow wand. Wears Black robes all over except for his head. Handsome and did I mention came make anyone smile. Like I said before, Loyal, DESPITE first appearances is very smart and crafty.. or reliable if you like to think, corageous, wise but like I said at the best of times. Let see what else, oh yeah, can change to any form at will. Admits he's far from perfect. Lastly, he can be as stubborn as an ass(donkey).

Yes, I was wondering about your creepy werecat thing, AraCelebEarwen person. I just chalked it up to a different sort of lesser Ainur that was never written about, or just a private little group of Changelings. But then, Beornings and werewolves aren't drained after shapeshifting as far as I know. oh well. Another limitation just makes things more interesting. *hides*
Anyways, did I write that anything was wrong with your profile, morgoththe1 person? I thought that I just tossed my own opinions of the thing at you, along with a few facts that I thought were relevant. oh well. No large deal. I have no problem with pretty much any kind of crazy personality that people can come up with. The crazier, the more interesting, I would think, yes? I was merely ranting about the shapeshifting thing, since it made no sense via what he was supposed to be. For the purposes of this bar type thread, as the AraCelebEarwen person pointed out, crazy things don't matter as much.

Or maybe I'll go look at posting instead.... *grin*
I know what you mean about picking on a profile though, Morgoth. I do it all the time if I don't make myself set it down and pull my hands away. er... at least until I think of or find something that simply has to be changed anyway.
For example, I'm really thinking I'll just go ahead and pull a bit of a redo on Kirra's profile. I like her, but I'm not seeing her as what I have put down...
oh, and Yay. Olheri needed to not be untouchable but was so close to an elf type, that I decided that of anything I could do, a fault in her power could be nearly as good as any of the other evil things I could have done to her.

CHARACTERS PROFILES:
name: Todo Proudneck of Longbottom
Race: Hobbit
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Fat, with round fat fingers that look like sausages. Thick dark brown curly hair on his head and feet, neatly brushed, and always kept brushed back and shiny with lots of oil. Always wears green, as he thinks green, of any hue, makes him appear richer.
Slight history:
Todo, or Tod, as he's more foundly called by people who pretend to like him if only for his wealth, is one of the richest hobbits near Bywater. Had been meddling in the affairs of dwarves up North for more than four years; although he would tell nosy people tall tales of incredible feats and grand adventures outmatching the ones the great Bilbo Baggins used to tell during exquisite parties then telling the truth. He owned the Red Fox Inn near Gladden Hills, the ranchery in Tookburrow, and the pub newly erected near Sharkey's End simply called Sharkeys, where their speciality is a round flat bread with lots of toppings.

Light brown hair that cascaded to her waist, tied near the end with a bright red bow, stout, but comparatively slender than most hobbit lasses her age, Dimple, or simple called Dimps, loves wearing yellow.
Slight History:
Dimps works at Sharkey's and is the only person who the owner of the Pub, Tod Proudneck, trusts with his "secret errands". Born a mute, Dimps had learned some form of acted-words but most of the time decides to write them down, because Tod appears to have trouble with comprehension.

Name: Aengus McDermott
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Bright green eyes are all that can be seen of his face for it is covered by a black cloth from the bridge of his nose down to his neck.
Slight History:
Although his well-built body is covered with cloak and hood, this almost assasin-looking man does not even strike fear in any of the inhabitants of Bree, a town, which Aengus, or Ang as he's often called, frequents. Not only because he seems to carry no weapon on him of any kind, but that he is almost always bullied into agreement by a mute Hobbit lass. Spends half his time abroad, half of it in Bree, very little is known about this strange fellow. It was only because of a decree by the King of Gondor that, Ang, reluctantly revealed his full name.

Tell me if my characters would fit in with the story or not.

Alright, I'm redoing this a little and it's likely to change a bit more as I have time.
------------------------
Name: Kirra
Race: Mostly human
Age: late teens early twenties (she doesn't really know or care)
Place of birth: In a wagon
Looks: Dark brown hair with a sort of reddish tone in some lights; hangs to about her mid back in easily tangled waves; usuily tied back. Dark green eyes. Not heavily built but not really skinny. Wears brown leggings under a rag patched skirt that only goes just past her knees; time softened leather boots and a comfortable green top. Uses a long, wide scrap of cloth as a sash tied around her waist; a wrap around her sholders both to block out the sun or keep warm; is also used as a head wrap that can hide her face and can be folded around almost anything to make a pack. It's just a bit of cloth but she can do quite a lot with it.
What she might be like: Well... how would you know unless you get to know? hm?
Cus some like to have an idea: Born on the road; long time traveler; now lives in and around the Shire but is still no less a wanderer. Lost both parents before she was 16. A hard winter claimed her mother when Kirra was still just a girl; her father died dew to injuries after a hunt gone wrong.
--------------
As before, don't be surprised to see this change.
Oh, and I'd better give you all a heads up here and now. I may be MIA this coming week. Something came up and I'm really hoping to get in on it and get out for an adventure. =^.^=
