Here is a picture of a hobbit hole that I started working on today, the 2 pictures show little differences, just the texture on the walls, and the dirt where the grass will go. I was thinking maybe of doing this 1 view of a hobbit hole and having other people add on their own things, extending left, right, up, or down. Maybe someone out there is interested in creating some sort of ME clip art? Different objects that we could make where other people could use them for their own work. In hopes that it will inspire more people to do artwork of ME. Please let me know what you think of my progress so far and of my different ideas, I would be more than happy to collaborate w/ other people on this sort of thing. The quality of the 2 pictures has been greatly reduced due to the fact that they had to be less than 200k, the originals are around 10x10 in.
1. Start of my hobbit hole. A Door w/ handle, a wall, a couple of posts, and dirt on the roof.

2. Texture and shading added to the dirt and wall.

Very nice. If I may ask, is this Photoshop?

Yes, that was made in Adobe Photoshop 7.0.

I also have Photoshop 7.0, but I use it mainly as an editing tool for my photography. I have books on how to create graphics such as you have, but I fall far short! In fact, I know just enough to edit photos for a nice look, and do a few "tricks," but that's about it.
It's such a deep program, and whatever can be done can be done in different ways. I don't think anyone uses it in quite the same way as anyone else! One of these days I'm going to have to get someone to give me lessons on doing layers.
(I know what clip art is, but what's ME clip art?)

Middle Earth Clip Art, may I guess?
Perhaps a program designed with certain 'Clip Art' image, enough of then to put next to each other to make a larger picture? Am I near to the mark?

I also use Photoshop for editing photographs, my girlfriend has an 8 megapixel digital camera and it takes beautiful pictures, but w/ my knowledge of photoshop I can make these already great pictures even better, not just with blurring the background, or sharpening the foreground and such things like that, but also some pictures will turn out w/ a tint of red or yellow or whichever and I can usually correct that.
I'm 19 years old now, I taught myself HTML(language used for webdesigning for those who are unfamiliar) about 6 years ago. I taught myself how to use Photoshop not too long after that. This picture alone has around 34 layers. If anyone has questions about Photoshop I can try to help to the best of my knowledge, I took a Multimedia class in highschool, which is basically an introduction to image editing(Adobe Photoshop), animation(Macromedia Flash), and video editing. When using a program such as Photoshop I recommend using as many layers as possible. Keep the original picture, make a back up of the original and the newer.
What I meant by ME clip art(Yes, Middle Earth styled clip art), I would like to create for example in the picture I have posted, a hobbit door. If anyone would like to create their own hobbit hole, everything they need would already be created, the door(choose the color or size), the windows, different handles for the doors, different decorations for the outside such as flowers, buckets, barrels. And these are just examples for creating the homes of hobbits, you could very easily expand this idea into creating all of ME. This idea makes it easier for those who are less creative, or have a hard time expressing their views. This idea could also expand into being animated rather than just a pictures.
We could create characters too, don't just limit this to objects. This could be used for those who consider themselves to be artistic, it could even be used by the RPGers to further that experience.
4. Added windows.

5. Added brick under windows, and started brick around the door.

6. More work done to brick around the door.

I'm first in line! Can you whip up a step-by-step on how to do "Layers for Dummies"? It's a big challenge, but if you can make a clear explanation of how to do it, you'll know how to do it even better, because you've made the process even clearer to yourself! :D
You can PM me if you wish, looking forward to hearing from you! :)

34 layers? Impressive. You know what you should do though, try to make the picture an amination going at .02 seconds. That way, we can see the hobbit hole all from start to finish. ;)

Why stop at 34? Make an animation taking us all the way through the hole, through all the rooms and out the back way! :D

Sorry about the appearance of this thread, because of the limited amount of attachments allowed I was forced to delete outdated pictures. I will be creating a website of my own and uploading my pictures there, and provide links here.
