This is the OOC Thread... yes, I know, it may be unconventional to have an OOC thread for a sort of practice-RPG, yet I believe it's of the highest importance to a thread of any story to have a place for the members to talk. I am modelling this after a serious RPG, so that the entire layout is understood implicitly when you go further into RPGing. This will not, despite the forum, be a lighthearted stroll. Lotsa evil. Lotsa twists.

So far, people in this thread:
elfgirl
Seregon
evil_doer452

Evil, as I've said before, PLEASE POST BY FRIDAY.

More members to come. Ask if you wish to join and have not been previously accepted/recruited/asked (unless the number of people here gets too high (7-10), you'll be accepted).

The OOC thread for a serious RPG (this won't be lighthearted, but you get the point) would be the place to post profiles. So, when you get on, post your profile. I will have a couple of profiles up very shortly, probably snatched from the depths of my Stock Character Profiles. If anyone needs help with a profile, or needs a profile, PM me. Also, I would like to see a good and an evil character from everyone. Brownie points if someone manages to (using a temporary character (one used for less than, say... ten posts) or otherwise) write a death scene. Extra points for tragedy, poignancy, etc. I'd like to see a few love scenes (nothing too graphic), and PLEASE - sidestories, people! They're like the guacamole on a taco salad!

The "Good Guys" in this story will be hunting a really big, nasty spider. The "Bad Guys" will be working for the really big, nasty spider. (NOT SHELOB - for the more tolkien-ish types looking at this, I justify a giant, evil spider by saying it's the child of Ungoliant.) For anyone who understands the timelines of Middle Earth, this is set about the beginning of the Third Age - it allows plenty of time to have elven characters mature and developed, and is far enough behind the War of the Ring so that it doesn't flow over into the story. So, about... 1700's, I'd think.

Any questions - go here. Any suggestions - go here. This is where I'll tell you if you've done something weird/odd... And also, depending on the characters in the group in the story that you're playing, you may have to go up to them, instead of them coming to you. Nothing out-of-character, please. I don't believe that characters would just go up and randomly ask to join a group (at least not like, "I want to join your group."). There should be some personal interest - a gain, a curiosity, etc. (This depends in a large part on your character). PM me if this confuses you.

I think that just about sums it up. I will begin the actual thread and story very soon. Don't forget, people - PROFILES.

ALL MAGICAL ITEMS MUST BE APPROVED.

Here are my profiles:

Good:
Name: Orion
Age: 2178
Race: Noldor/Sindar
Gender: Male
Appearance: Blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. He wears mostly brown hunting leathers.
Personality: Because of his numerous wins in battle, and at such a young age to boot, he’s rather egotistical and cocky. Yet when you get right down to it, he’s a nice enough person. Caring, though with just a tinge of obsessiveness.
History: From the time he could hold a sword, he was. He didn’t learn from the best, nor from teachers even. He spent years fighting anyone that would dare take him – friends, family, people off the streets. When he was barely 1730, he had collected enough money from tournaments to receive formal training, which he stayed in for a little over 200 years. He then returned to the tournament fields, and became champion. Regarded as the best warrior of his time, he started doing various jobs for kings, royalty, and all sorts of higher-ups, freelancing his way to power and glory.
Weapons: A broadsword, throwing daggers, and a bow and arrows set.
Armor: chainmail for heavy battles, leather for everyday wear.
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 185 lbs
Animal: A white horse.
Magic: Minor forest magic – a knack for poisons and healing, talking to animals and trees, minor foresight.

Evil:
Name: Arri
Age: Unknown
Race: Elven (Dark)
Appearance: Pale skin, ice-blue eyes, and black hair. She always wears black robes, and can disappear easily.
Personality: Cold, angry, ferocious.
History: She first appeared in Mirkwood fighting with the spiders. Then, stories of her started popping up everywhere. Her evil, her skill, her anger... She's a legend in small towns and villages, a point of fear and suspicion...
Weapons: A broadsword, several daggers, many poisons, punchknives, throwing darts and stars.
Armor: Light leather.
Animal: A black horse.

I may add to these later.

We'll start out with a baseline of character numbers in each group as five for the good guys, seven for the bad.
It doesn't normally happen that you have characters sort of lying around with no one controlling them, yet it can, and it is now.

Good guys:
#1: Human male - rough, worn
#2: Human male - young, optimistic and almost-foolish.
#3: Elven male - fatherly
#4: Elven female - antisocial and young
#5: Dwarven male - blunt, easy to anger, gruff

Bad guys:
#1: Human male - young, angry, and keen
#2: Human male - old, worn, and withdrawn
#3: Human male - young, cocky, and foolish
#4: Elven male - young, good-looking, keen, cold and steely
#5: Elven female - antisocial, cold, and bright
#6: Elven female - young, sarcastic, and cocky
#7: Dwarven male - antisocial, blunt, and angry almost constantly

Unless you write a profile for one of these - DON'T PLAY THEM! They're there to fill out the group, be used as target practice, and generally give some volatile variables to the story.

Hmmmm... I think for now, I'll just have a goodie. I may take control of a couple of baddies a while in, though - I haven't had much practice with sarcasm. (I'll take them, that is, if I actually get a creative thought involving them!)

My Goodie:
Name: Liira
Age: 2117
Race: Elf
Gender: Female
Appearance: A sweet, trusting face, with deep-set light green eyes and blonde hair, full lips and high cheekbones. She always wears green robes and brown leather.
Personality: Sweet, kind, and optimistic.
History: N/A
Weapons: A small, light, thin sword, two daggers, a bow and arrow, and all kinds and sorts of poisons.
Armor: leather
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 135 lbs
Animal: A grey horse.
Magic: None

And Evill, I've been told to give you a chance to post. Friday night, really late... oh, wait... Football game...

*cue jungle music* Saturday night... *jungle music* really late... *dead silence* I post.

MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!

Well I'm interested. I read the actual RPG first and couldnt quite get where it was going so I thought I would come and find an OOC thread and there it was.

Um I dont really care if I'm good or evil or both. Bit more of a discription of where it's headed and I'd be happy to join.

P.S. The RPG is in Strolls Through The Green Hill Country which is for light-hearted RPG's. Your saying its going to be serious RPG so you might want to get one of the mods. to move it into From Erebor To Eldamar.

The plot is ripped from one of my older RPGs with Elfy, when I was first learning exactly how to set up stories and posts and characters and all that jazz.

It's set about the beginning of the Third Age, and the plot is that one of the children of Ungoliant (Sister to Shelob, and a little more powerful) has set up home in the region of the North called Hithaeglir, and decided to prey on anything that moves. So, a group of people is organized to go out and kill it. Meanwhile, the Spider is launching its own attack and building power. The baddies are hired to go and kill the good guys, the good guys are trying to kill the spider.

Sere's pretty much summed it up. It's also important (if anyone uses this plot again, which they may) that the lead character be elven, hopefully a Sindar, and a note is that at first, they have no idea where the spider is, so they just have to sort of poke around every nook and cranny in that area - extremely hard, since Hithaeglir is a very mountainous area. They start going on hints, tips, rumors, etc., trying to find her lair. In the meanwhile, they find all sorts of things - which I won't give away yet, but there are some really interesting sidestories and backstories that can compliment it beautifully, it can go on for any period of time, and it gives a lot of freedom to all characters and people ivolved, so it really is a good plot for everyone beginner to advanced.

And I understand it's in the light-hearted section, but it's here not only for more experienced persons who wish to play (Sere and Myself, and you, Maji), yet also here in a large part to give my incoming friend(s) a feel for RPG-ing.

There will be quite a few things that are not always in RPGs - just in case they are, and I hope they will give us all a little bit of experience. Using things like characters without definite authors, getting used to side-stories, etc. Personally, my goal for this RP is to give everyone (including myself) a little extra knowledge/experience, especially with things that could be thought of as 'curve balls' in RPGs - not just twists and turns in plot, but things that are not exactly conventional. For the reason of furthering knowledge and experience, I highly suggest (though a lot don't use it or practice it), for some characters to tie in backstories with others (with PMs and conversation with the authors of said characters, of course).

Does that clarify things a bit... hopefully? Questions? Comments? Ideas?

Yeah that all helped. Be great if we could get some noobs in though and then give some experiance to them.

Do I have to have two characters because I find that if I only have one then it is more indepth for that character rather then having two shallow characters. Also does mine have to be elven?

elfgirl
10-23-2006, 08:21 PM
No, you do not have to have to characters - that's for my friend(s) coming into this thread - they need at least one good and one evil, to get into the hang of doing both, and due to the fact that there may be a day when more than one character is necessary. And no, your character doesn't have to be elven. This is taking place around the realm of elves, men, and dwarves, which leaves the possibilities open - plus, it's not too far for a hobbit to go. All the races can be there.

Hey, I'm really sorry to have to announce this, but Elfy might not be on for a day or three - no less than one, no more than four. She got really, really ill this afternoon, and now she's too medicated to do much of anything.

If anyone needs a message passed along, or anything such as, you can PM me.

Well heres my profile. Its kind of based of a RPG character that I have used on another site. This guy can be a good guy.

Name: Halex.

Gender: Male.

Age: 24

Appearance: Wears a dark, stained cloak with leather armour underneath. He has a sword at his side and two daggers hidden on his body. On his face there is a scar running from the corner of his eye to the bottom of his ear. His hair is dark brown and shoulder length yet is usually covered by a hood. Front tooth on the left is broken halfway up, almost to the nerve so he can sense if there is going to be a storm.

Personality: Is always looking for new challenges and wants each one to be harder then the last. Finds it easy to hum a song and is friendly towards his friends, although has a great amount of mystery surrounding his past life. Fearsome fighter and you would always want to be on the same side. One of his faults is he is a bit of a mercenary and will always take what offers more adventure.

History: He was born to a farmer on the outskirts of Gondor when captured by orcs at the age of 11. Because he was young and strong, the orcs kept him to be their slave. There he learnt orc speech and was whipped many times. When he was 17, he escaped only to be recaptured and receive the scar from eye to ear as a warning. He escaped when he was 20 and has been wandering the wild for four years slaying orcs with his sword, and taking up what work he could.

Oh, you didn't sound stupid. It's alright - I know how picky we can all be about nicknames and the such (and I'm dearly sorry I have not been around - I seem to be having familial issues I wasn't aware of:rolleyes: ). lol.

On another note...

WHERE THE SMEG IS EVIL?

and...

Anyone wanting to join should post.

Including you, Sere.

Well, this thread sounds interesting and fun, but I think I'd only be able to commit enough time to do one character. I hate it when people join and RP and then you're waiting forever for them to reply to your posts and all that... so I wouldn't want to do that to you all if I did join. Just one character, either good or bad (which is needed?) and I could have fun thinking up a cool side story... hmm.

Majimaune
12-04-2006, 07:15 AM
Yes we need some evil here soon. I will make a profile for one if it is really needed but only if I really have to. As I may have said before I like playing only one character when possible.

Soooooo when is this thing going to get going? just wondering cause I got hols. coming up so I will have more time if needed.

elfgirl
12-05-2006, 05:27 PM
I know, I'm just having problems getting my friend, Evil, on here. I'm thinking we'll just have to start without her. Sere needs to post. Maji and Rose, you can have as many characters as you want with whatever alliance you want. We can never have enough evil guys, yet remember - it's a giant spider. She's got, like, five thousand children. If there aren't many evil characters, it can be made up for.

Right now, all I'm really looking for is intro's from the people who are decided. You can have them overhear and get wrapped up, or show up late for the meeting (fashionably late, as all heroes, of course.). Joining later will, of course, be allowed, and I will try to accomodate whoever wishes to join.

Majimaune

(fashionably late, as all heroes, of course.)Why does everthing have to be fashionably late, why can't it be fashionably early.

To the rest of the post: Okay.

Seregon
12-08-2006, 08:28 PM
Because if it was fashionably early, no one would notice.

Majimaune

Unless you were extreamly early. Then some one might.
