To the mods, if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it.

Earlier today I stumbled across a great website (http://www.tuckborough.net/index.htm)that says it's an encyclopedia of the Third Age of Middle Earth (from the perspective of all of Tolkien's works, not the movies), but it covers just about everything. It's very detailed and pretty much lists all relevant information in its articles (including background in earlier ages). Just as a hint for how deep it goes, it even talks about the Balrogs' wings debate in some detail under the Balrog section. It's definitely a handy site and worth a look. ;)

I have a strong preference for The Encyclopedia of Arda (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.asp). You used to be able to link to it from The Tolkien Forum using the vB codeUsage value
Example Usage Frodo Baggins
Example Output Frodo Baggins(This is from the example in the FAQ on using vB code (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/misc.php?do=bbcode) here at TTF.) It no longer works well, however: it will not link. A syntax that will work for this link is:Usage value
Example Usage Frodo Baggins (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/f/frodobaggins.html)
Example Output Frodo Baggins (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/f/frodobaggins.html)
Which brings up a question: how do you get the tab character embedded into the string? There is no vB code for tab.
