The Premise:
One day you receive a letter in a curious manner. It could be that you were sitting in a park when a gust of wind blew it into your lap, perhaps you were looking through some books in a library and it was wedged between the pages, or it could have been waiting for you locked inside your safety deposit box (for which only you have the key). In any case, the letter has your name on it specifically, and the ink is so fresh it appears as though it was just written.
The letter reads as follows:
Good morning ______!
Enclosed is a train ticket for yourself. Pack your bags, you're going on a trip! All expenses paid! You'll be staying in a four-star hotel overlooking the grand metropolis of Shanghuo (pronounced "shang-hwah").
While this paradise is lacking in very little, it has attracted some undesirable attention and it was brought to my attention that your particular qualities may be of assistance to us. If you're willing to pursue the matter, you will be paid handsomely and rewarded with a piece of magical technology the likes of which you've never seen (I can guarantee you that)!
Yours sincerely,
Ashura
The ticket reveals that your destination is a city called "Myo-no" in a country called "Saiyun". You, no doubt, have never heard of such a city or a country, and no amount of searching atlases will reveal the existence of either. If you ask anyone at a train station they will verify that the ticket is real and that, indeed, on the date indicated on the ticket, a train is scheduled to arrive, though no one can seem to recall where, exactly, it's coming from and who, exactly, is the conductor.
To Play:
You will need to generate a character, of course. Your character can be almost any species (within reason), can look however you please (again, within reason), and should preferably have some skill or set of skills for which he, she, e is adept.
The ability to fight, debate, socialize, navigate bureaucracies, investigate, understand magical phenomena, comprehend metaphysics, et cetera will come in handy.
To make things fair and interesting your characters cannot be over-powered to begin with. Through the course of this game, however, your characters will undoubtedly become over-powered. Or perhaps adequately powered considering what they are to become.
You can write out your character profile and post it here, or send it to me in a PM. Tweaking may or may not take place depending on your submission. Of course, if you're interested, post here and let me know so that I can plan something just in case.
