Thank you! I love taking pictures of my dogs. :) The black one is Molly, she's about 6. And Jenny, the yellow one, was a stray we found this summer. She was literally starved, and had all kinds of nasty diseases, but we kept her and made her healthy again! She's still a bit of a puppy and tends to be a pain (she has an inclination to escape our backyard), but we love her! And Molly, too, she's a good dog. :)

My children are more into Harry Potter than me, but we have all the books, all the movies, we already pre-ordered Half-Blood Prince, and we have an almost nightly routine of reading the books aloud at bedtime. (We have just started Order of the Phoenix. I have a lot of fun doing impersonations of the character voices. :p )

And I REALLY dig the Hogwart's Express. The English steam trains are, to me, so much more, um, elegant than their American counterparts. Our steam trains are better at conveying a sense of raw power but the English locomotives, like the Flying Scotsman or the Mallard, are things of beauty.

Don't get me started. I can talk about trains almost as long as Tolkien... :D

Well, I know Greek Tragedy is the utmost in culture, but the Orestia is a rather boring play. It is just so talky. The acting was all very good for a volonteer production, but we didn't draw much of an audience, and I think we could have done a lot better with different material.

Um...that one was taken at the foot of Arenal Volcano in (I believe) Guanacaste. Arenal is behind the photographer. We stayed at Los Lagos resort for three days (among other places in CR) and went on the horseback ride one day, up across a bunch of fields and to the foot of Arenal. ;)

Visiting the grave was a really interesting experience--I'm not sure how to say it in a way that's not cheesy, but it made Tolkien something concrete to me. Less of amazing fantastic idealized but distant figure, more 'this was a real person, because I'm here looking at a grave and a tombstone'. It was also neat to see all of the things left by other fans--I have more pictures of things from the gravesite, a wreath from the Tolkien Society, a stuffed eagle, things like that. There's also a rosebush on the grave itself (a small rosebush), which people tie notes to. There weren't very many when we visited (the site had obviously been neatened up recently--the whole cemetery is kept very orderly, it's nice), but I did find just a sheet of notebook paper with "Though here at journey's end I lie..." etc. written out on it. That was neat--reading that and knowing that someone else had been there, and that this was obviously important to them.

I really wanted to go back on my own and visit the grave privately, because when we stopped at the cemetery it was on our way out of Oxford, after I had been pestering the professors for days about whether or not I would have a chance to go find it, and it was only supposed to be for a minute. The bus stopped, Jessica and I threw ourselves off and went sprinting through the cemetery (there are little signs in the verge), and then there was this whole crowd of people who didn't know why we were there but had a vague idea about who Tolkien was came shambling after us. It was hard to have a moment when fifteen other people were taking pictures. And then we all rushed back to the bus, only to find it gone--We'd left Lou-Anne in Oxford. Oopsie.

Lucy hates his guts and he hides from her, but Lucy isn't allowed in the house because she sheds sackfuls and Mom has absolutely forbidden her from sitting on any of our beige colored couches. Plus she has kittens and spends most of the time holed up with them.

Beatrice thinks he is funny. She likes to hide under things with just her tail sticking out and twitch it. This drives the little guy nuts. She is a spoiled brat though and hates Lucy's kittens and will not let them come near her. . .but I love her anyway.

Kelly is the sister. She'll be five on the 12th.

His name is Scooter, by the way (when Kelly says it, it sounds like Shooter) because he doesn't run. His legs are so short that he scoots.
