Hi there. I typed this little dialogue (http://thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?p=486414#post486414) up mainly for my own enjoyment and now I'm wondering if we can't make a nice little story/adventure out of it.

Who: There are two main characters so far, Freddy Whitfield and Dandy Hoof. I think I'll call dibs on Dandy, so Freddy is still up for grabs, as are any new characters you would like to invent for yourself.

Where: The village of Oatbarton in the Northfarthing of the Shire (see attached map)

When: 2921 of the Third Age, so before the events of the Hobbit (2941). Dandy, Freddy and any other friends of theirs will be around the same age as Bilbo.

What: This will basically be an adventure, nothing high and mighty as The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, but we will probably travel through the whole of the Shire...Other than that, I don't know and don't really want to plan that much ahead and make the story boring and linear. Except that at some point, Dandy will want to go see the Elf Towers in the Tower Hills, because he's feeling a bit nostalgic at the moment. ;)

Well, that's about it for now, let's see if anyone's interested first of all.

Here are the relevant maps I scanned from Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas, the first one is actually the left page, the second is the right-hand page; Oatbarton can be found on the bottom/right part of the map.

Marbalowe "Marby" Burrowes, Esquire, of Stock is up for hijinx, shenanigans, pubhopping and general good times.

Oi! Stock's a long ways frem Oatbarton.

But we can say you're visiting a cousin or something. :)

Actually, I was thinking that Marby was trekking through the Bindbole wood, seeking out bits and pieces for his whittling and carving trade. Oatbarton doesn't have the funny bog smell as Needlehole does, so he much prefers the inn there :)

Good answer. :p

I'll be posting a short bio of Dandy in a few days, you and anyone else can do the same if you'd like.

*pokes Ithy with a stick* Sanka, ya ded, mon?

A short biography for Marby, since I tend to think of most of the filler when I actually get to writing.

Name: Marbalowe "Marby" Burrowes

Age: 37

Group: Stoor

Description: Marbalowe follows the general trend for Stoors generally, being a bit stockier than hobbits in other parts of the Shire. He stands at a shade over three and a half feet tall, with dark hair that is kept rather short and neat, being straight and not curly. He's not got much of a gut, but is pleasantly rounded in the right places, being fond of long hikes into the hills and forests as he is. He tends to dress in dark shades of green and brown, carrying a sling, hatchet and a knife whenever he is out and about (and generally a few other woodcutting tools in a satchel).

Brief History: Hailing from Stock near the junction of the Stockbrook and Brandywine rivers, Marby has grown up with the water and marsh in his life. He has a fancy for good ale and fish, and tends to have a mug with him when he is working in his little wood-shop making various things, from flutes to chairs to even a small canoe for his cousin Harlo. It is not uncommon to see him anywhere in the Shire, wandering in search of a good bit of timber to work with.

Howdy,

You can go ahead and post in the IC thread.

Would you rather I replace Freddy's name in my IC post with that of Marbalowe or do you want a completely fresh start? If the latter, someone can still take that character later on, but even if they don't, we can just leave him out.

Sorry I've delayed my response. I'm going to attempt a post, but if you don't like the way I do it, please tell me and I'll fix it to better mesh :)

I think I'll opt for a fresh start, meetings are always fun to play out!
