Ciryaher

Ciryaher helps Kementari onto the great horse. "Many thanks," he says to Nimawae. Hearing the rumble of war nearby, he stretches his legs quickly and begins running in place. Touching the steed's forehead briefly, Ciryaher took off at a terrific speed, his light shoes kicking up a little dust as he ran. With a whistle, the horse took off after him and they disappeared onto the great plain west of the citadel.

Elessar greets Arathin at the gates of the City, and they walk arm-in-arm to the top of the tower. There was set Elessar's palantir, which indeed was getting more use as of now than it ever had. There was a vision of Dain, Maia of the Dwarves, reeking havock upon the army of Palando, but then it seemed that the vision died. There, now, was the army of Pallando, marching in full strenth, a mile or so outside of the city. Elessar looked grim in that hour, and he searched for the armies of Goroth and of Ciryaher, of which Goroth's was closer. Ciryaher's was near to a half-day away. The army that set out from Mordor, mostly orcs and foul southrons, was twenty miles from the city, and would not beat the army of Pallando to it. Elessar shivered as the sounds of the marching drums of the east carried over the hills, for indeed they were first heard in the city an hour before. Elessar, seeing all he wished to see, covered the stone, and came to the gatehouse, where he saw to his order to bar the gate, which had been hastily done with anvils, carts, and any other heavy items that entered the minds of the easterlings. Boiling pots of black oil had been set upon the southern walls, were Elessar beleived the army would come. Men of the city brustled about, saying their final goodbyes to their families, and running off to appointed posts, Elessar vaugly wondered what foul soul could want to destroy cities as beautiful as these. He had seen in the stone the sack of Dunwain, how the city had been obliterated even as it surrendered, and he knew that that was no longer an option. He then saw the last of his plan take effect, most of the women and children that dwelled in the city were set on great ships in the harbour, and sailed northward, across the great lake, in search of the place of Dale and the Lonely Mountain. The city now looked bare and lifeless, but that was only from the inside, to the army that was about to come over the horizon the city would look like a small, frightened animal, with it's teeth barred, ready to fight to the Death. Elessar turned, getting the sudded urge to look northward, and his hand slipped to a chain around his neck, where he had placed a small white stone. He felt comfort for a second only, for then the horns of the north of the City let out a blast, and Pallando had indeed outsmarted Elessar, who now shouted orders, but it was too late, the Enemy began to scale the walls of the city. The fighting was fierce, and it was good that the army of Pallando could not all fit into the rear of the city, for the men of the city (ok, this city really needs a name, it is getting monotonus) fought with the courage of men defending their homes, and they pressed on, determined and grim, untill the current of the enimy subsided, and the city was liberated again. The foul men of the deep east set their tracks to the south, and came upon the plain that Elessar had intended them to try. This puzzled him, and he forebade his archers to fire at them. But then the great drums stopped, and a great host appeared over the hills, and now the whole army of Pallando surrounded the city, and Elessar and Arathin were beseiged.

Arathin
02-07-2002, 10:09 PM
Arathin had remained by Elessar through the fighting. As yet their people had not been deployed. They lay hidden deep-within the city. Arathin looked uncertainly at Elessar as the besiege came.

Ciryaher

After a few days of running, Ciryaher and Kementari at last espied the snaking Anduin coming from the north. They approached the fords at the North Undeep and quickly passed over it. A little way to the west, the Emperor and Emperess came upon a great encampment; that of the mighty host of Arnor.

Several sentinels hailed the two, but as they saw who the two were, they rejoiced and winded horns and shouted happily. Ciryaher helped Kementari down from the great steed, who was given great praise and taken to the excellent stables that had been set up. The Imperial Majesties were escorted to a well-kept pavilion, where they were given refreshments of food and drink as they pleased. Ciryaher held a brief council with his captains, then lay down upon a mound of pillows and fell fast asleep.

*Nimawae sat outside of the encampment that night, choosing to rest under the stars. Her keen senses were alert to the noises of the night, and when she heard what sounded like drums her heart grew full of dread.* "What is to come of that noise, I don't know, but it sounds evil as though doom approaches."

¤-Elessar-¤

Elessar sat upon the foremost wall, looking outward upon the seige of Rhunwain (sorry, had to make up a name, I hope it means something near to city of Rhun). He stood there, his arm around the form of Arathin. He looked off into the distance, not seeing any sign of any army of his allies. The host of Mordor had been expected, but had failed to appear, for it had probably been held up on its journey to Rhunwain. The army had completed a circle around the city, even to the extent of taking up camps to the west, in the mountains. The armies of Arnor, Rohan, and Mordor would have to make an attempt to break the seige by force and speed, for their armies numbered much less than the Order of Pallando. I could see little, for my Palantir had been veiled with foul magic. Massive machines of war had been lined up along the frontal face of the city, for it was the most exposed, and lay in front of a huge plain. The plain had been dug up, deep trenches where vile projectiles were flung at the defenders at the wall. Pallando indeed seemed stuck, for he had not counted the men of the city able to withstand his first assault, and had made very few plans for the event of failure.
Elessar looked once more upon the forces, eyeing them with his sight, which seemed perticuarly sharp, even for the most full-blooded of Numenorians. He seemed lost in thought, concentrating ever upon the machines of war, those semmed indeed to be his doom. And even as he looked on the great machines lurched into motion, rolling onward to the certain doom of the city. Elessar was impassive, lost in his own mind, when all of a sudden he laughed, and wispered into the ear of Arathin. She smiled at the simplicity of the idea. He raised his hands into the air, and shouted words in the old speech, high elven Quenya. With that a great screeching sound was heard, and The machines stopped in their tracks. Elessar had used his power to make the bolts that held the great wooden monsters together grow soft and supple, like extremely hot metal. The softer metal had not the strenth to hold the massive weight of their extremeties, and great arms and huge pieces of armored wood fell to the ground. The machines were defeated (with very little use of Elessar's power), and Pallando would have to devise another way to gain the walls of the city.

Nimawae's hope
02-08-2002, 10:19 PM
*Nimawae sat alone in the dark with her brow knotted. She then began to telepathicly speak to Bowen the 'general' of her people.*
"I fear what is to come, Bowen, I am not sure what the dawn will bring. That is, assuming that dawn will come. I want my people near by for we may be of great need before this is over. Draw near to this place, and keep them silent. I desire that no one should know of your presence until the proper moment. There is a small wood near to the river that you may abide in for now. Come under the cover of night, and come quickly!"

*She then arose and sought Ciryaher in the midst of the camp.*

Dengen-Goroth
02-09-2002, 12:53 AM
Goroth rode now with new haste to Barad-Gostannen. There the strengths of his forces he would gather, to either deliver the boon of victory or be the bane of defeat. The journey was made quick, and Maetha traveled never more quickly, for the wind seemed to howl in great roar as he passed over the lands. Darkness in the form of thick clouds also fell upon him. He arrived before the Mountains of Ash er the siege of Rhunwain began, and quickly entered in deep council with highest of aids and advisors.
"Lord, this shall be a momentous battle, but we shall not hold Rhunwain. The forces must be held back and retreat to form a wedge about the enemy. One would venture north and one south. They would be assailed from one and then the other, trapped between anvil of flame and hammer of water." Spoke a Great Captain of Harad.
"Lord, we must defend Mordor now more then ever. Pallando shall move against the west quickly, he has already shown his hand in sending some scouts forth into even the hills of the Misty Mountains. And the forces that remained of his Brother are still quite in number, some 2,000 is the estimate, for he held not all of his forces among him. They shall join, if we do not stop them. That battle shall be a precursor. We have forces there, some 1,500 by Dol Goldur. One of the Great Captains may command the attack with due ease. I know one is there as of now as it is, but the rest must be withdrawn to defense.” Spoke a Captain of Mordor.
“Lord, my city hath fallen into flames, and I shall ask leave to fight to the end with those ill-bred fools. What they have destroyed is undoubtedly beyond their own ideation.” Spokes last the Captain of the East. Dengen surveyed the group before him. They were on a terrace near the top of his tower. He perceived northward the battle, and knew at once it was in vain. He shook his head in dismay and began to pace. Dull roars traversed the plains and were heard even in that valley, sheltered by great mountains. Mordor had grown somewhat fair after the departure of Sauron and this valley most of all. It had a lush spring and consumed with greenery. Snow lightly fell, for it was of a high altitude. Then he turned southward to the dormant megalith of Orodruin. The great steps of lava were now covered with very fertile plains, though it was still not in par with the glorious hills of Rohan and Gondor.
“Let us gather in one hour, here. I shall deem my doom then, though time is in increasing demand.” He spoke, and the captains bowed low and departed, their great armor glistening in the white of the clouds overhead. Dengen long walked, and thought the past, of the great battles and of the turbulent decisions. And every time he arrived upon the same decision. Whence the hour had drawn nigh the Captains reentered.
“Lord, we bow to thee.” They spoke and bowed indeed.
“Rise and gather. Time is of the essence. We must aid the Great Battle by diminishing any support. Though we shall be outnumbered in the north, we shall battle there. However none shall be sent to Rhunwain, least by air to give flight to those who are now stranded amidst the sea of evil. We shall re-organize the forces in such way as I deem now necessary. Very few shall remain in Mordor to defend-“To this the captain of Mordor heaved a sigh of discontent, “We shall make a line of guard in the brown lands to make the deciding stance. If not, and we believe that they shall not be able to provide ample defence, we shall move. I must stress my disapproval of my own designs. The Brown Lands shall be a field of slaughter, dark and horrible. For they are open to all assailment, and I fear we shall be broken and driven in fear to Ithilien and the North. If we are defeated there, the war is near lost. However, if we gain the support of Arnor’s forces as well as those of Gondor, we shall remain in vitality. In that case we shall battle nigh south the Falls of Rauros. Yet again, if we so find that the aid of Arnor is near, we shall make a stance by the South Undeap, so as to use the fens of Mirkwood to the north, from which any remnants of our northern forces shall lay in wait, and from the south, in which we shall gather, I hope, men of Gondor. All looked about and then spoke.
“North Undeap.” So the fate of the Forces of the East under the hand of Goroth were decided. Now he moved to the west, riding alone anew as his northern forces some near thousand and half strong, marched to meet the remnants of Anatar’s forces. He hoped more then ever now that Arnor would aid his forces in this last stand.

Arathin giggled silently at the simplicity of Elessar's idea. She could see full well that it would puzzle the Blue Wizard, who had probably overlooked the simplicities of battle. She wrapped her arms around his arm and rested her head on his shoulder. "Maybe he will speak to you now?" she whispered. "I don't think that I want to confront him though. If he wishes to speak to you, I will say nothing. But remain with you, if you so wish. He will not win Rhunwain, if I can help in the least way against its defeat."

*Elessar now moved quickly, he placed a group of horsemen in the front of the city, in a small group of houses that lay just before the gate of the city, their horses filled the streets and stables (there were neer to 4 thousand of them). They were prepared to leave at a moments notice, but this was not known to Pallando, for his own spell that blocked the use of my Palantir blocked any attempt for him to use his own magic there

Arathin
02-10-2002, 02:03 AM
Arathin stood beside Elessar. Her horse, Haldor, stood restlessly beside her. No harness adorned him. For none would he have, and none matched his majesty nor his beauty and power. "You will not joing them." Elessar comented mildly. "Oh yes I will. They are in the death charge and the presence of Numenur may encourage the men. Plus some of my people are in this charge of yours. I will not have them go into this charge thinking that I have abandioned them in their time of need."

¤-Elessar-¤
02-10-2002, 02:34 AM
Elessar heard horns blasting from the walls, the enimy was upon them once again. And then Elessar had had enough, his temper overwhelmed him and he summoned the captains of the city. He told them little of his plans, and even less of his intentions. Elessar turned to Arathin, and handed her a bow, and indeed it was the bow of Bregor, one of the finest bows that could still kill in the changed world. He whispered words of parting to her, and gave strict instructions to stay in the northernmost tower untill a time of dire need. He then went, calling upon his kinsman whom were hiding in the city. They totaled near to only a hundred. When the small company reached the gates of the city a great noise was about them, their foes were attempting to overwhelm the walls, by ladders and such, but the defenders of the city were too well aimed and skilled in the tactics of seige warfare, and the assault was beginnning to faulter, but Elessar knew that their enormous numbers would prevail. He and his company came up under the gate, and Elessar instructed the captains of the levy he had made to go into the city, and set up a ring about the great towers of the city, they left without questioning his orders. Elessar nodded to a man at his right, his brother. He threw a great latch, and the floodgates parted. The enimy saw a weakness in the wall of the enimy, and swarmed to it. Elessar and the stout hearted Dunadan of the north flew into action. No more than two hundred people could fill the entryway of the gate, and the peons that had been sent to fail the wall burst into the open space, the Dunadan made quick work of their enimies, but found that for every one they killed five would replace him. They fought on unfaultered, though. Elessar stood in the back of the brawl, watching it. He then drew from a overturned cart two gleaming shards of steel. One was Durist, brought to him by his brother, and the other was Aranruth. He dove into the frey like a wild beast, lost in the passion of the fight, and none of the Easterlings who saw the fire in his eyes in that hour lived to tell of it. The pressure on the walls was beginning to lessen, as they learned that a breach could be made by slaying a handfull of men at the opened gate. They would then turn from what seemed near certain death at the walls to what seemed easy fighing in the gate...it was not so. Hours passed, and the Dunadan began to be replaced by the strongest of the defenders of the city, as to give them rest from the frey. Elessar fought on, as though possesed by a demon. Blood was flowing in a continuous stream from the gate of the city, and was beggining to add a red hue to the great lake. As the fighting wore on, and more and more hours began to pass, even the pressure at the gate faultered, and they finnaly withdrew yet again. They flew back to their camp, which was near to a mile outside of the city. They searched for Elessar, and his body was not among the dead, wounded, or alive. (of which the dead were numbered near to five thousands for Palando (most of which were peasant fighters, and this also included those whom had died at the walls), half of the Dunadan (including Elessar's brother, who was acting mayor of Himring), and two thousand of the Rhunrim)
He was not with them, he had lost himself in the battle, and had persued the fleeing easterlings. He fought for near to another half an hour, most of which was fought in the actual camp. There he found himself in an open space, and he looked around, and the easterlings had formed a ring about him, and they carried no weapons. Elessar looked about in confusion, for surely they did not wish to die without a fight. Then he spied a rider, who was in the ring with him, he wore a great dark-blue cloak that covered all of his body, and a faint glow came from the eyes of the Istari. Elessar rose to his feet, and he had not even known that he had fell to his knees, he was bleeding from many wounds: an arrow in his left shoulder, a huge gash on the right side of his face, a broken sword in his thigh, and many more lesser wounds. He cast his head up, laughing at the failing sun. He stared into the glowing embers that smouldered under the blue cloak. Elessar's body was beaten and bruised, but his voice rang clean and clear, and sounded vary elven. "Pallando, tagalong of Alatar, we meet at long last. Perhaps you are wisened in the great wars of old?" Then Pallando muttered something, barely audiable. "Frail mortal, you dare to challenge a Maiar? You are but a commoner in a race of fools" Elessar laughed again, the laugher of the insanity of battle. "You cannot call me commoner, for my war cry is thus Lacho calad! Drego morn!" And then a fould sound came from the throat of Pallando. "Westerner! Slave of Olorin! Meet thy doom!" And with that Pallando drew a great bow, and knocked an even greater arrow to it. He drew back, but was quick to cry out in pain, for a dart had smote him in the shoulder, and Elessar heard the warcry of Arathin from the distance. "The people of the west are here in number," cried Elessar aloud. "And the east could never nor will never measure up to our glory" And with this Pallando screamed, a sound witch would rival that of a ringwraith, and drew his sword at Elessar, Elessar ran at him but was stricken down with foul magic. He lay there on the ground, motionless, for a few seconds, but in his mind they were hours. There he saw his white jewel fall to the ground, and he remembered only vaugly hearing Pallando's great boots pounding away the distance between the two. And he remembered not telling his arm to reach for a small, ordinate dagger at his side, and throwing it at the stone. But all after that was crystal clear, the stone burst into thousands of peices, and a great howl was heard. The men of the east fled westward in terror. In a matter of minutes only a beleagured Pallado remained, save Elessar who lay on the ground, and Arathin who lept to his side, he sat her down beside him, and rose to his feet.
"Pallando. You are wise among the wise of middle earth, but even they underestimated the power that I always kept in my hands reach. For behold," and then the great cloud of white smoke that had settled over the hill now gathered there, between them both, and from it emerged a huge being, a spirit of white fire. "Ainar, greatest of all of the spirits of fire is reborn, and to him you shall fall." And then Pallando shed his cloak, and he was in the most power that he could call, and he was tall and terrible. But Ainar was taller still, and they battled as gods. But in the end weariness set upon Pallando, and he sank to one knee, and then Ainar took his staff, and broke it with one quick swing of his axe, and that very swing sent Pallando to the halls of Manwe, to be judged by Aule, his master. Elessar shouted a word in high elven, and The form of Ainar turned to a mist, and swirled about a single point on the ground, where afterwards was left a small white stone. This Elessar picked up, and also the small dagger off of the ground. And he wrapped his arm around Arathin's shoulder, and she helped him limp back to the city.

Arathin
02-10-2002, 02:56 AM
Upon seeing Elessar on the ground, Arathin knew that her time had come. She notched her arrow even as Pallando reached for his, but she was the quicker. For she was spend by love and compassion and he by hatred only. As soon as the shot was fired she ran to Elessar's side. She cared not for any hurts to her being. She slew several easterners on her way to Elessar's side, but got there faster than a deer or even Elf. After Ainar had returned to his stone, Arathin retrieved the stone and placed it back around Elessar's neck. Then together they limped back the city gates.

The next few days were extremely buisy in Rhunwain. The fields of dead were cleaned away, a great burning was made of the army of Pallando, and the dead of Rhunwain were made into a great mound. The Dunadan were put upon carts, and were to be taken to Arnor to be buried in their own mounds of honor. Elessar walked over the top of the great hill. The body of Pallando had disapeared after his spirit left it, and all that was left was the great blue robe and the broken staff. The robe he tossed onto the pyre of the easterners, but the staff he collected and put into his pack, he then went back into the city. He came before the populace and delivered a small speach, naming one of their own the temporary governess of the city, until Dengen-Goroth could come and set the city right again. Elessar, Arathin, and the Dunadan rode southwestward, coming at last to the bottom of the falls of Rauros, where Elessar's mighty boat had somehow come. They sailed the rest of the way down the Anduin, coming to the bay of Belfalas. They sailed up the coastline, away from the penninsula (sp) of the Ered Nimris, and onward to the Brandywine, and up to the Barrow Downs, where they made a fresh mound, that inhoused some of the mightiest of the Dunadan of their day. Sailing down the river was easy and fast, they came once again to Belegaer, and sailed northward to Himling, looking for a period of rest, relaxation, and celebration.

Ciryaher espied the carts carrying the fallen Dunedain and stopped those who bore them. "Lo, there!" he hailed, "What is this? And where are you going?"

The wains halted before the long line of Arnorian forces. One of the drivers spoke up nervously, wondering at the questions, "We are bearing the kinsmen of Lord Elessar back to their homes in Arnor."

"Their homes are not in Arnor," Ciryaher said crossly, "Who are they?"

The man answered slowly, "They are the Dunedain..."

"If they are the followers of Elessar, they are to be taken to Himling. Not to Arnor. Be on your way." The wain-drivers looked about anxiously and slowly plodded through the ranks of soldiers.

Ciryaher looked after them with distaste, and returned his gaze to the city beyond. He pondered for a moment, looking darkly to the eastern citadel. "Prepare for a siege. We shall claim that city ere it's defenses are readied," he said coldly. He winded his horn, and the ranks of Arnorians began to march forward.

And so ended the brief war of the Sun, Dagor Anar. Thus the Ithryn Luin were cast down and their realm and power were broken. At long last the last stronghold of evil had perished from the Earth...but would hearts remain steady? Would race turn upon race? Kingdom upon kingdom? In the peace that follows war, many are deceived into the false serenity, those who forget that Evil never perishes...

and Evil never forgets.......
