This is really just another pointless thread. They're just so much fun though! The whole time-zone thing on the forum messes me up so badly!! It'll be 3 in the afternoon here and 10 at night on the computer!! So....

What country is everyone from???

I'm from Canada...Eh? Seriously no one here talks like that. We just love making fun of it though.

If anybody has any q's about Finnish mythology, culture or language, please ask me. :)

Don't worry, elenya, you're not alone, i live in Australia.
Australia has a beautiful climate, the best places to go swimming,
one of our states - QLD - im told is just like California but cleaner, and winter for most of the country is warm, no snow unless u travel, but where live, i guess u could call it the "hick" country of Australia. Mostly the term used is "horsey" cause we're the horse country of Australia 2!
i love Australia tho, and wouldn't swap it for the world - tho i do want to visit alot of other countries . . . !

I'm from New Jersey. The smog state. Well, NJ has a bad rep already, so I shouldn't say that. I actually like NJ, I live about 20 min. away from the pine barrens (sandy pine and cedar forests, with miles of beautiful cedar water rivers that are great for canoeing, kayaking, and hiking) so I'm not stuck in the nasty, smoggy parts of the state. Besides, the boardwalks and salt water taffy are enough- in my mind- to make up for the smog. :p

daisy

I live I also New Jersey, it's not all bad, there are plently of nice spots. Good camping areas. All the smog is around the big cities. I also have no mall in my town, I don't even have 5 decent stores in my town. I'm about 10 minutes from the nearest (but worst) mall in my area (depending on traffic).

I live in Maryland, in the suburbs of Baltimore. Thats about 45 min. to D.C. Its pretty nice here. Especially now that it just snowed!! A whopping 3 in. At least thats what the news tries to tell us. Its really funny cause everything pretty much shuts down for those 3 in. which will be all melted by tomorrow.

I swear my school never closes. The only time I have ever in my entire life heard of it closing was it got so cold the heating went and the pipes in the gym burst. The gym was flooded with water. And they only got the day off!The only thing that happens was when we were little we weren't allowed outside if it was under -25. And if it was even a little over they forced us outside and if we complained they told us we should wear more winter gear. We were run by evil evil people!!!

Elenya,

Where in Alberta are you from?

4 hrs from Edmonchuck sounds like either Grande Prairie, Peace, Jasper, Slave, or maybe to the NE?

And C'mon Alberta's not that bad is it? Once you get a car and get mobile there are some pretty decent places to go.

Or you could subscribe the credo that the only good thing about AB is that it's close to BC.

JoA

Hey, do you remember the splatter from the roller coaster in West Ed Mall? Let us not forget the Ghermisian's lack of attention there!

elenya
01-21-2002, 11:28 PM
It's this really small town, Fort McMurray? No one's ever heard of it unless you live in Alberta. I guess once I get a car it won't be so bad but even then there's not much to do. Even if you do go down to Edmonton it takes so long. Even more so now that the roads are iced over.:(

But the point is by the time I'll have enough money to buy a car I'll be moving to Montreal. Can't wait for that!

But the West Ed roller coaster stops being fun after you've rode it so many times.

I should shut up. This is baisically me complaining. It's just so true though!

JoA, you seem to know alot about Alberta! Either that or I'm just not usd to people knowing about the small towns up here. Do you live here too?

Can it be that I'm the only representative from Southern California here? I live in "Surf City" (aka Huntington Beach). Not that you would ever catch old Rushlight here on a surfboard!

I live just a half mile from the shore. I can smell the ocean and the smoke of the firepits (maybe even get a whiff of a hot dog cooking) in the evenings. If I drive 50 miles I can hike Mt. Baldy (elevation 10,000 ft.). 100 miles will get me to Mexico, the Mohave desert and Joshua Tree. Oh yeah, and skiing in the local mountains.

I've lived here all my life, and would probably be considered wussy by the heartier folks in the midwest and Canada.

OHHHHH!!! I am so jealous of you people living in the British countryside. Its absolutely beautiful!!! I'm stuck in the smack dab in the center of the Midwest (you know the middle of the United States). Someday it is my intention to hike throughout the British Isles and Ireland. WE'RE NOT THAT BACKWARD!!! ok, well, a bit, in some places, and there's quite a bad crime rate. AND MY MOTHER LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH!!

But we have the most beautiful scenery, where I used to horse ride we just had to ride through a gate in order to be in a game reserve, with zebra stallions fighting and their herds standing behind them, (zebra foals are sooo cute:D their stripes are brownish and their coat is all fluffy!!!) and the giraffes used to come inside the farm and watch us having a lesson, once we had to ride out because there was a giraffe in the arena. And there were buck and hartebeest, and the most gorgeous outrides you've ever seen!! Jealous now??? Úlairi
04-13-2002, 02:58 AM
Isilme, you obviously don't know what heat is! Sometimes in summer it gets to around 45 degrees Celsius. I live nowhere near the beach and the pool is always over-crowded. We have no air-conditioner, just puny little fan. The computer overheats and I can't go on here *sigh*. Never ever wish for heat, you won't know what you are getting yourself into. The sweat just drips off of you, and then you have a cold shower, and you feel great! And then about half an hour later you are sweating like a pig once more.

I'd just love to go to Australia and see some real kangaroos there but I live VERY far from that place. And I belive the climate is quite different here in Estonia as well. Snow in the winter (or pehaps not, now that we have the global warmening and all) and nice beach-weather in the summer. And we have no mountains. And if anyone doesn't know then Estonia is in Europe. And we have many-many small islands (not as much as Sweden has, though).
I live in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Come and visit!

Your hair wants cutting.

legoman

nobodies hair 'wants' cutting unless it is a living breathing organism.

korhall
06-03-2002, 01:43 AM
well hair does grow independantly of the body, even after death, and they do have all 8 biological requirements of life, so you could say that hair is an organism, and thusly could actually want cutting.

legoman
06-03-2002, 01:49 AM
But how does it communicate to us lesser beings its wants and needs? Do we just assume when it get to a certain lengh, does this mean longer haired people are cruel? How do you know it likes being cut, it be true that it does not like it, it may think, damn I've got to grow that bit all over again. You just don't know.

You are wrong Korhall, it only has six of the eight biological requirements to be a living organism. Thence, hair cannot be classified as an organism, and even if hair was living, the hair itself would not be an organism, the cells would be, so korhall, you are wrong.

korhall
06-03-2002, 05:16 PM
but if you go by that logic all of the cells in your body are individual organisms, so what does that say about us. we are merely a conglomeration of cells responding to the neuroelectrical and chemical impulses of other cells.

I wasn't saying your character was wrong, I wasn't saying that your creation was wrong.
I was saying that it seemed that you did not make her name "pheonix" intentionally. It seemed as if you just didn't know how to spell.

Since it was intentional, more power to you and your character.

But that is actually NOT elementary. Because it's an actual word andnot a name most people who see that you spelled it wrong would assume it's because you can't spell. If it was, for example, the name Emily and you spelled it Emilie, or Emma-Leigh, we wouldn't question it because there are many known spellings of such things. Even Pippin/Frodo's "Kelsy" escapes most scrutiny. I assume that's just how she chose to spell it even though the popularly accepted spelling is "Kelsey". The point is that because "phoenix" is a word with no alternate spellings it is assumed that you spelled it wrong.

Since you did it on purpose, (so you say) then kudos. And congrats on the characterness.

Anyone been to little'ol Australia? It's a wonderful place with all the kangaroos (road kill) and the fluffy koalas.
With the beautiful landscapes and the dessert and the threat of cyclones every 9 months up north? (Where i live!)

I've not been to Australia...just the name makes me sad...
Every since the cute Aussie down the street moved out I've been in mourning...
I'd walk by his house just on the off chance I might get to hear him talk...

Lol! So was it the accent you liked better or the person wonko???

Wonko The Sane
10-08-2002, 02:33 AM
No! I didn't know the person...didn't get a chance to...it was purely physical or in this case aural...see...I think the screaming forum for where I explain that it's not JUST the accent...

*and is suddenly overwhelmed by something and cannot keep her thoughts straight...* Must run!

I don't know what it is about our (Aussie's) accents that are so.................................loveable! I'm beginning to dislike my accent. I've been stuck with it for the pas 15 nearly 16 years and it is getting rather boring. I think i might go and live in Ireland for a couple of years. They've got cool accents. But anyway. I think i've lead this discussion whay off track.

It's not just Aussie accents that are lovable...it's Irish, Scottish and ESPECIALLY English. :)

For example...Sean Biggerstaff...(Oliver Wood in the Harry Potter movies) and Jamie Oliver (The chef from Oliver's Twists on The Food Network) they make me want to lick the television...
 Not that I would...

(apart from some german speaking Austrians)...

I hope you don't have such old prejudices against germans like we
we're nazis, cause I think, Germany has in percentage the most anti - fascists in the world, like me... ;)

Excuse my English, please... :D

Sorry, Snaga and Wonko the Sane,
I'm not interested in football THAT much...

And no, not all Germans are bavarians and wear leather shorts and drink a lot of bear... ;)

When you're from England, you'll probably know
the speakers corner in London, the funniest english place I know, except from where you're football teams do their practice, perhaps... :D

Yeah Speakers Corner is a crazy place. Mostly populated by people preaching against some obscure injustice (and the emphasis is more on the obscure). There was one priest who apparent preached there 5 days a week for about 50 years. Can't remember his name. On the other hand, if you've ever been there when the great British tradition of protesting is in full swing, and seen 250,000 people pouring past you, it is quite something. Being a Londoner at least by birth, I love Speakers Corner!:) Yay London!

I like Germany. I've been to the Rhineland, near Koblenz etc. Beautiful! I love that you've got Lorelei's rock. How cool is that?!:D

Hey Merry that was the best joke you've ever said. Mainly because it was mine, hohohoho.

Actually Germany is a very nice place, at least it was when I went to Lemgo, it was very clean. Thats what I remember most, In England, especially in Hull, theres just rubbish cluttered everywhere but in Germany it was Spotless, even the school playground was clean, it was amasing!

Snaga
10-16-2002, 08:28 PM
Ah yes Legoman. That is the legendary efficiency of the German people for you.

Anyway, yes to repeat my previous point. I dont stereotype anyone.

She's from Nebraska. :) The End.

Speakers Corner is a corner of Hyde Park in Central London, sorta near Marble Arch. People go there to rant and rave about whatevers on their mind. Hyde Park is cool because it has its own lake called the Serpentine which is just an blatently cool name for a lake. Along it runs Park Lane. I wasn't necessarily impressed to see that all the ultra-luxurious hotels on Park Lane now incorporate car showrooms, all selling RRs, Jags, Ferraris and the like. Nearby is Green Park, which is a nicer park I think. Thats just down from the Ritz, which is an obvious choice when one is hungry.

Nebraska? Sounds cold to me. I was just gonna say 'Yay Fargo!' (cool film) but I now discover that that was Minnesota not Nebraska. Oh well. That means Galdor doesn't have that curious and engaging accent.:(

Ok..that'd be cool except that Fargo is actually in North Dakota... But they DID have Minnesotan accents...and I never saw the movie...so I don't know WHY it was called Fargo...but Fargo is in North Dakota...THE END.
Hehe...my friend from College, Katy, is from Minnesota and SHE talks like that.
I do an excellent immitation! :)
